The people you have to kill in Prototype are not innocent by the plot's standard because they helped created the virus that infected you and basically the entire city. The actual non-plot related NPCs that wander around have nothing to do with you. Besides, parts of the plot is how far exactly the main character is ready to go to unravel the truth and how it totally, absolutely wasn't worth it, because in the end the truth wasn't worth it and he has to deal with all the murder and basically the infection of an entire city.
Basically Prototype is all about how fucked someone can get in a shitty situation and how it's totally possible to do horrible things when clouded by your own convictions. So far Hatred is about a dude going postal and shooting bystanders because fuck actually having a plot.
In Prototype it also kinda struck me how [sp]that when you turn out to be playing as the actual virus itself assuming Alex's form, the virus itself is disgusted at Alex's actions and arguably treats his sister better than Alex ever did.[/sp]
is a blog post really acceptable as an unbaised source?

I know what Prototype is about, and I agree. I'm not talking about that.
I'm asking, is it alright for a game to reward you for killing innocent people? I think it's fine, myself. But if you say this game is vile because it rewards you for murder, then logically wouldn't you have to say the same about every other game that does the same thing?
I'm talking about morality, not quality. If you just think the game doesn't look fun, I totally get you. I might just be completely misreading some posts, in which case I apologize.
would you be comfortable sitting next to the dude on the bus? :v:
the character looks less like an actual social outcast weirdo and more like the over the top marty stu super original character weirdos tend to fantasize about
basically it's a spergy self-insert power fantasy

Anybody comparing this to Prototype really should take a step back an re-evaluate their lives really. You're doing something horribly wrong with yourself if you can miss the point of a game so hard that all you get from it was "so he ate civilians a lot?"
Prototype was brutal and purposefully morally dubious to work with the plot and characters involved. Assuming Hatred doesn't pull some crazy switcheroo, the game is explicitly an attempt to "destroy" what the developers perceive as "political correctness", and is trying not to be "art" whilst making no points, so it's already failed in its own goals.

Oh, yeah, it's okay for a game to reward you for murder of innocent people or even allow you to, as long as it carries a message of sorts behind it. If the goal is just to kill innocent people out of spite with no other motivation or goal or anything, then it's just dumb and shitty.

The only way I could see Hatred being actually a good story is if the game has a single mission where you play as the shooter then bait and switches into an investigation game where you play a police investigator trying to find him or find out why he did it.
But considering the developers are mostly from Farm 51 who did a bunch of mindless shooters (which for the most part were still good, mind you), I doubt it's going to go any further than "crazy asshole kills people out of spite".
Hell as far as visuals go, Necrovision was even pretty damn similar to this game. This is the main character :
[t]http://www.downloadatoz.com/resources/soft/game/download/img/n/e/c/Necrovision%201292352941.jpg[/t]
And this is the cheesy as fuck writing.

Main character is an American trench coat wearing "badass" who spouts shitty lines every two seconds and is surrounded by dumb soldiers who can't fight for shit. These guys just fucking love trench coats and cheesy edgy monologues.
This game is such a load of shit. What even happened to any sort of storyline? The main character has the personality of a teenage Goth that hasn't grown up as well making little to no sense in the process. "Hurr durr me no like the world, me kill". What doesn't he like about the world? What sense can anyone make from this poorly structured, attemptively over-edgy, nonsense piece of shit? Games like Postal and GTA are fun because there is (mostly) some sort of humour surrounding the killing and the purpose of the game isn't to just kill people randomly as there is a storyline. A game to just kill people and nothing else is such a lazy, half-arsed concept that clearly resembles that the creators initially lacked any sort of original or creative ideas and though "fuck it, we'll do this" and just look at the outcome. A gun-toting moron jumped up on nothing but hormones, stupidity and a completely unclear hatred towards anything and everything.

Not only that but everything in Prototype is black and white... only the only 'good' guys are civilians
it actively tries to make the main character Alex Mercer look like a genocidal douche, as well as blackwatch
it doesn't exactly stop reminding you how much of a monster Alex had become. And he [sp]wasn't the good guy to start with either[/sp] (morality spoilers)

Everyone will have a different opinion on whether a game can "reward" you for killing innocent people and not be shunned, but games like this are actually few and far between anyway. The thing about Hatred is that it is literally just "kill innocent people because you are an edgy broodlord who hates the world", and the developers are doing it "to go against trends".
That's not really good, reward or no reward. It's just a stupid attempt to create a controversial game like Postal, without any of the intelligent thought put into it. There is no critical thought triggering on psychosis or any reason for the player to go and shoot everyone. There is no depth, there is no plot, there is no reason. You literally just play a dude who looks like the stereotyped anti-society murderous psychopath (tall, brooding, long unkempt hair, fingerless gloves, a trenchcoat) who shoots people because he hates the world and wants to die a violent death.
You aren't being provided any information past this. There is no critical analysis of why the character would do this. There is no retrospective looking at the reasons. There is no thought put into anything past "broodlord kills people".
I'm going to be perfectly fair, we've only seen this one video about Hatred
we still have yet to know more about it
[sp]The first Postal's last level was an elementary school shooting, but apparently the guns don't work on children and the Dude get's taken down.[/sp]

I almost feel like there is an opportunity for an interesting game here, but yeah it feels like it's just going to be a pointless slog.
As it is this game looks like the mass shooting version of Goat Simulator. A single tired concept stretched out for far too long, made for the sake of the idea and not the game itself.

yeh that is exactly it
As I said in the videos thread... Call me fucked up, but I'm pretty excited for it. Looks awesome as shit in my opinion. And ya know what? I don't care who makes it, as long as whatever amount of money I throw at it will be worth it. Rant on about it all you want, but no one is forcing you to buy it and "pay monies 2 da nazis"
No one knows if this game has an actual story to it or not or objectives other than killing people. If it was obvious about it's story then this reaction wouldn't be happening and we all know that.

its also the fact that the game is clearly awful - objectivley bland and boring and nothing good, but people are pretending to like it to be edgy
there are games exactly like this but better easily available

do you realize that you just summarized the entire functionality and plot of the game based on the one trailer that exists for it which is little more than a teaser with excerpts of combat gameplay. if you were to construct a synopsis of every other game out there in the same way a vast majority of them would come off as extremely primitive, aimless games.

Get what you're saying, but have you tried the game already? I thought it wasn't out yet.

Yes, you have a right to your opinion. But you can't really call a game you haven't played and just seen a gameplay trailer of boring. Unless you know of some playable version. And yes, there's like POSTAL and shit which are all great and I'm a big fan of them but the satire is too over-the-top. I like a bit realism with my murder simulators, fine sir.

Yes. I also realize that based on what the developers have said so far, it's somewhat unlikely that anything I noted will change.
The best scenario is that it's actually a well thought-out game in the vein of Postal. I really doubt that it's going to be anything like that though, considering it seems to right now literally only be pandering the fact that it's an edgy broodlord shoot everyone because you hate the world game, and nothing the developers have said about it so far provide any insight as to there being any more to it than that.
I have to say. After reading most of the comments in here, reddit and other forums in general, this whole controversy is hilarious.
So many jimmies rustled over a stupid game. Who in their right mind would take a game like this (or any game, for this matter) seriously? Jesus fucking christ, it's a game, it's fiction.
People telling other people what to play, who to shoot in an imaginary universe. Just cut it out and take it for what it is - a game created by its developers where they can play out their fantasies.

To be fair, that's all we can do right now, so it's not so bad that we do this, at this point, but speculate.
I see the same thing happen to Bloodborne, farcry 4, and a bajillion other games.
Opinions may or may not massively change once new info comes / it's released. We only know this as the game and that's it.

Well, most everyone is blatantly judging a book by it's cover. At least play it before calling it shit.

yeah but, that's all we can really do at this point. But what we currently have does paint a fair picture before it's even out of what it probably will be.

Still not really suitable to create a stone-cold Hatred for the game already, though.
