noo no no definitely not a shame.
just because one brave dude fought off some fucked-up robbers in a corrupt system doesn't mean that the US needs to have people with guns chasing after criminals.
So you're saying people in the US shouldn't fight off criminals when they are threatening you or the people around you?
I mean by what he meant from vigilante justice I'm thinking that you guys in the states have some law which could buttfuck anyone who does anything similar to the guy in the article.

i'm saying that it shouldn't be normalized or mythologized as some great thing.
laws which *could* "buttfuck anyone who does anything similar to the guy in the article" are a good thing because not every single person who does something similar should be absolved of responsibility.
a .22 bullet is very small, in fact it's the smallest mass-produced rifle caliber as far as i know. in comparison to a .45 ACP round, you can definitely see the difference:

People have been shot with .22s before and have never even noticed it due to adrenaline, distractions, or even just it's general lack of killing power. the fact that this man was able to put down two men with two .22s is nothing short of incredible aim and luck.
Killing power? Firearms aren't just about blowing your opponent's brain all over the wall, they're mostly used to defuse dangerous situations because noone in their right mind would continue fighting after being shot with any bullet. I'm sure the soldier didn't want to kill them outright, just get them to stop.

The problem is, although you are fighting crime, they'll go on about how you COULD have killed someone that isnt part of the fight, should have left it to cops and Im pretty sure if you dont kill them they can sue you and win
The robbers hit Corales with a pistol, and shot his son Vincent on both thighs
Fucking assholes

Two weeks paid vacation.
CITIZENS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE GUNS! IT PROMOTES VIOLENCE! WHY WOULD ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANT TO OWN A GUN, THAT'S ABSURD! YOU WOULD NEVER NEED TO DEFEND YOURSELF!

You don't know very far then. .17 HMR is significantly smaller than .22. It's, like, a whole 5 smaller! That's more than 4 smaller! In seriousness: Bullets hurt. Doesn't matter if you're pumped up on adrenalin or what, if a soft nose .22 enters your body, you're going to notice the 5 liters of blood or so you'll be missing in about 20 seconds.
The U.S. has no tolerance for vigilante justice. Its a shame really, because I don't think it acts as a deterrent anyway. The right thing unfortunately isn't always praised or respected like it is in this article.
In some ways it's a good thing
My step dad had a friend from the UK who had never been to America before. He went there on a business trip, rented a car, and ended up getting lost. He got so lost he decided to pull over and ask for directions. He approached a house, knocked on the door and was shot from behind the door. He died soon after
It's a tricky one, really. Where do you draw the line between self defence and stupidity? Letting people judge their own self defence can be bad, as shown above. In the OP, however, it was indeed a good thing that he had the confidence to take matters into his own hands

What the fuck did they do? blow your legs off?

It's like in videogames, when your limb's health is low, it has X % chance of falling off.

There was a man who was shot with a .22 caliber bullet. It entered above his third rib, ricocheted off of the second, tore through his heart, yawed into his left lung before the fragments got lodged in his spine.
Not dangerous at all!
And this is why civvies should be allowed to own guns, folks. Responsible gun owners like this guy can make the difference between his neighbors living and dying, as demonstrated.
just like every other gun...?
My .22 rifle takes six rounds to kill a fucking possum from fifteen feet away. Six. And I'm using Remington ammo in a Ruger 10/22 that's in good shape! .22 Long Rifle just doesn't have any stopping power, it's a plinking round and really only good on things squirrel sized. And cola cans. Trying to bring a creature the size of a human down with it takes some damn good shooting skill.
The marksmanship this man put forth to get a kill shot at 50 yards with a single-shot 22 in poor shape is astonishing. The guy knows his way around a boomstick.

Heh. It is possible to kill a man with a .22 but it's tricky. You have to be damn good or damn lucky. Hit a bone nice and square? Bullet just stops. Bounces off sometimes.
Somewhere around the internet there's an x-ray of a man shot in the back of the head with a .22LR pistol. The bullet didn't even penetrate far enough to disappear beneath his skin.
