I don't plan on reading 300 different books at any time, but that's just me.
If you have the ability to, why not?

Kindle makes you look like a hipster tbh
I'll always prefer print to eReading, but holy shit, the Kindle is so cool. Makes the screen look like a page of a book.
Kindle makes you look like a hipster tbh
To me, people who refuse to move on from an ancient medium without a good reason sound like hipsters.
Well I don't read so I can't really "move on" :v:
And the iPad 3 is expected to have a 4x resolution screen (like iPhones) which would make reading somewhat easier. But yeah, physical books and tablets each have their advantages and disadvantages when it comes to reading, neither is always necessarily "better" than the other.
As long as you have a glossy screen, you'll get vibrant colours but will suffer in bright daylight. It's not the resolution so much as the backlighting and the finish. Both my transformer and my friends iPad turn into mirrors in bright sunlight, whilst the Kindle is able to shrug off that, due to the ePaper and lack of a backlight.
You'd think they'd be a lot cheaper than a physical item, but they're not.
Actually, quite a lot of the mare. Say I want to read Titus Livius or Seneca, if I bought the real deal I'd probably have to pay somewhere in the region of 35 euros for one of Livius books. But because they're free on the Kindle, I save a lot of money. And reading on a Kindle is practically the same as reading a real book, I really can't tell the difference.
Count me as a Kindle convert. Stuck with books, wasn't at all interested in an e-reader, then I got one for a gift and have loved it since. I still buy regular books (stuff I can't get on the Kindle) but if there's an option I take the e-book route these days.
This seems like a good idea, in theory. Its a shame its being done on an iPad. Reading on an LCD screen for long periods of time isn't that good on your eyes. If it was on an epaper device like the Kindle it wouldn't be so bad.
.
Well Amazon already has lots of e-textbooks, so hopefully this move will make even more available on Amazon.
It's like reading a calculator. Who in their right mind finds that fun.
That's like saying board games are better than PC games because you play them on a computer. The fun in a book shouldn't come from what you read it on, it's the damn book that's important you massive idiot.
To me, people who refuse to move on from an ancient medium without a good reason sound like hipsters.
everyone who's not like me is hipster
Kindle makes you look like a hipster tbh
how ironic.
That's like saying board games are better than PC games because you play them on a computer.
well chess is more addictive than any other- You're the kind to not find the humour in jokes. :zoid:
Since this somehow went from iPads to Kindles: I love my Kindle. It's so nice to have all the books I wanna read on one device + any books I purchased on the Cloud. Shame that a few books that I wanna read (The Science of Discworld and a few other Pratchett books, Metro 2033/2034, Roadside Picnic, basically anything that didn't get global acclaim) aren't legally available from Amazon or Google Books in eBook format, or aren't available in the US for some reason. (Come on, in the age of the Internet we still have region restrictions?)
I still use a horse-drawn carriage; I refuse to use a car it's much worse.
everyone who's not like me is hipster
I have no problem with people liking books over eReaders. I don't like people who say that eReaders are inferior without any reason other than "Because books feel better" without actually trying an eReader or acknowledging any of the benefits.

I wish this was on the Kindle Fire, it'd allow the advantages of the iPad's color screen on a much cheaper platform that schools could afford to use more My dad works as a computer technician for the public schools in my area and they just gave him a free iPad for use in his job, it's crazy imagining how much money was wasted on those expensive tablets And on the advantages of ebooks: The regular Kindle (with eink) is just about better than a book in every way except for battery life and lack of color pictures, other than that it reads almost exactly like paper, I actually dislike reading on my Kindle Fire though since the bright screen gives me eye strain

Knowing Apple they will use some proprietary format meaning you'd have to shell out for an iPad plus the Textbooks.
Knowing Apple they will use some proprietary format meaning you'd have to shell out for an iPad plus the Textbooks.
I'd be amazed if they didn't do that
I can't believe the textbooks are only $14.99.
I have to read a lot of formulas for university and I tried E-Books but cross referencing throughout the text is somehow more effective for me when I can turn pages. Also I often have to read more than one book at the same time, how would I do that in an effective way on an ebook reader?
I'll buy an iPad for school next year because of this, it's more economical. I spend over 700 dollars a year on those books, Apple plans on selling them for sub-15$ a book. I am sold.
iWish they could name at least one thing without the i in front.
I'm liking the interactive textbooks you can get for the iPad; saves paper and is way better than lugging around a heavy textbook. [editline].[/editline] Hell yeah, I was in the main office this morning at school and the they're is already discussing about getting the iPads.
