No no no, a .50 BMG will work on a deer. It'll just work too well.
The point is that there wouldn't be much deer left. It will not give a clean kill at all.
Quite possibly.
Oh scratch that, you'd have a better chance with .50, the guns costs up to $25k apiece, and the ammo is up to $15 a pop.
Banning guns just makes criminals laugh, alot of the gangmembers already can't get guns legally but they still seem to find new guns after the police take them away.
Exactly. The moment you are convicted of any crime, even if it's a minor sentence in prison, you are no longer able to own or purchase a firearm.

At least it's pre-cooked. :v:

Also life is probably scarier for a criminal knowing the house you're about to rob MIGHT have a gun, or, hell they may have a couple. Store owners sometimes keep one behind their desk aswell.
It's like they just pop up outta the ground...
Actually, I remember hearing that the guy at the Aurora shooting had an AR-15.
Which wouldn't be an assault rifle.
Not "assault rifles". To call them assault rifles is playing right into their ploy, which is to formulate a term "assault weapons" which sounds so much like those legitimate assault rifles like M16 and shit which we all know and fear.
Oh for fucks sake I'm a gun owner who wants the Machine Gun ban overturned and even I call them AR-15s and Norinco AKs assault rifles even though they aren't select fire simply because they are identical except the fire selector is missing one or two settings.
Let's just end it with this

while researching i got a bunch of weird advertisements offering me FREE GUNS AND A CONCEAL CARRY LISCENCE.
im 15, the fuck.
And weren't alot of kids at the theater then? Bit hard for young ones to have a conceal carry liscence right?

Brosepha Stalinya, comrade Elecbullet is being satirical.
God, even facepunch has matured away from the crazy anti-gun stance that was common on here a year or so ago.
Politicians never get it though.
Because it is in its entirety unnecessary to make weapons made for combat against humans readily availible for any civillians to buy.
mausers and krag jørgensen rifles are some of the most common hunting rifles in scandinavia
they've been used to kill thousands of other people
likewise, mosin nagants are common in then-soviet bloc countries
springfields and garands are common in the US
do you seriously mean they should be banned?

Politicians are inherently stupid.

Woah, time travel!
What's the obsession with banning the AR-15? It is the firearm symbol of 'Murrika, an national icon. It is a .22 for crying out loud. Those who say only a few guns were designed for sport, the others were only designed for inflicting as much damage as possible make me sick. All ammunition these days are designed to give a clean kill with maybe a little tumbling to make it more effective. The AR-15 is can be used as a hunting rifle, practically any military firearm and civilian firearm over the caliber of .22 works great for hunting, with the exception of the .50 BMG, a cartridge designed for use on vehicles, not human flesh.
herp derp, .22 and .223 is not the same thing. this is like saying 20x139mm rheinmetall should be legal for hunting just because big bore shotguns share the same bore size.
Just get a tazer/stungun/pepperspray/knife then goddamn.
Aslong as everybody in America has such easy access to weapons it's never ever going to be one of the greatest countries in the world again.
rip in peace
Its funny cause during the 1970's-1980's gun ownership was at an all time high.
Nowadays gun ownership is actually at an all time low, with one gun for every three households, and one in five Americans owning a personal firearm.
herp derp, .22 and .223 is not the same thing. this is like saying 20x139mm rheinmetall should be legal for hunting just because big bore shotguns share the same bore size.
Herp Derp I dumbed it down. I have shot both, and know that there is a difference. I'm kicking my self for even venturing into a gun control thread because they are autistic shitfests of conflicting opinions, which are either barely intelligent or just plain old narrowminded stupid.
herp derp, .22 and .223 is not the same thing. this is like saying 20x139mm rheinmetall should be legal for hunting just because big bore shotguns share the same bore size.
if you actually knew what you where talking about you would know that .22 is the diameter of the bullet hence why .22lr and .223 make the same size hole in a piece of paper
Bit hard for young ones to have a conceal carry liscence right?
Politicians are like diapers, your gonna need to replace them constantly. same reason

Darkzero135 is right. Same diameter, different powder loads (the primary reason why .223 fragments when it enters a target, 'cause it's moving so damn fast!)

I normally agree with Penn and Teller but their argument essentially hinged on "It is written in the constitution so it must be right."
You shouldn't need guns to overthrow a government who is acting against the benefit of the people, that is what democratic elections are for.

They are both fun to shoot though. Once I get a machine shop and some CAD, I'm making a semi auto .223 pistol.

It's for when the elections don't work due to tyranny (plus, they have guns, so if we have guns, that'd kinda help. :v:)

Not disagreeing with you, but here are both cartridges side by side for reference.

They aren't the same thing, but a human body won't really care what each bullet looks like when shot.
Oh damnit kartoffel.

Nice. They already have that though...

Anyways, what he's saying is that no, they are not the same thing, but they are the same basic diameter around.
ITT people from the rest of the world aren't cool with the right to bear arms.
[editline]7th August 2012[/editline]
and then suddenly it's a bunch of dudes who are actually educated on weapons
man you guys should see page one, it was filled with retards

It's a Keltec, you can't get one on the principal that there aren't any to buy.
But really though seeing how bipolar people are in this thread is astounding. People don't understand guns, and how it usually plays out is people are scared of what they don't understand.
Daemon made a good point early on, the problem with firearm related crimes is not gun control related.
I personally indulge my "obsession" with firearms through airsoft as they're much less lethal and still moderately fun to shoot, but I do own a M91/30 and I would like to build my own AR15 sometime in the next 20 years. Firearms are no less of a hobby than model trains or jerking off, and those of us who see it as a hobby should not be unfairly punished due to the actions of those who improperly use firearms.
It's a Keltec, you can't get one on the principal that there aren't any to buy.
I saw some for sale at a gunshow I went to recently.
God, even facepunch has matured away from the crazy anti-gun stance that was common on here a year or so ago..
Being pro-gun doesn't mean you are mature.
I saw some for sale at a gunshow I went to recently.
$10 says they advertised that Kel-tec guns would be for sale somewhere at the show since they're close to nonexistent.
At least the cooler ones are, like the RFB and Sub-2000

The chances of the US government turning into a tyrannical dictatorship are pretty damn low and not because of the right to bear arms.
