oh good lord This resembles a windows phone Although if like you guys say, I CAN switch over to desktop, that's where I'm spending all of my time, so there's no problem. Oh but they should fix those colors on the UI it looks like garbage
If you look on the right hand side when he is on the "Start" page, before he scrolls, you can see a icon on the bottom labelled "Desktop". That should switch between the two. And it should be able to be turned off entirely.
Despite the fact that its supported by millions, its easy to use and setup, runs VERY well on most computers you throw windows at, serves everything you need and more, and constantly gets updates you are right, there is no reason to use windows. Now stop being a Linux elitist.
so basically many people depend on it even though it's not good
so basically many people depend on it even though it's not good
the fuck are you even talking about Windows is fine
I'm not too worried about this UI change... XP for life.
so basically many people depend on it even though it's not good
Sorry, I would expect a operating system with the majority market share to actually be good. I mean, it must be, if it wasn't people would have abandoned it years ago, like before computers became mainstream? Windows is good, it is easy to learn how to use it for basic things, and just as easy to learn the advanced. If it can keep millions of users happy, outdoing Mac OS, which is supposedly esier, then MS are doing something right. It has majority market share for a reason, for the average desktop user, it does everything you need with little to no fucking around (Linux distros tend to suffer this when something breaks, otherwise, they can be fine), and with a extremely large range of Software (something Mac OS doesn't have compared to Windows). It is the most vulnerable to attack because of this market share, if any alternatives reached this point, they would be equally as bug ridden and honestly, that would ruin the point of them. [editline]16th July 2011[/editline] Fuck, Linux zealots are worse than Apple fanboys most times, I swear to god every one I have met has their head so far up their asses.
many things with a majority market share aren't good, people just eat it up because it's either marketed to them or most other people use it so they don't have a choice [editline]16th July 2011[/editline]
Fuck, Linux zealots are worse than Apple fanboys most times, I swear to god every one I have met has their head so far up their asses.
I've not said anything about linux. I acknowledge that linux has many, many problems that it may never recover from if it's ever to become a consumer OS, mainly the hardcore open source attitude

A lot of the things we use as standard in computing today are only that way because of the history of computers. Back before everything was as simple as it is. If something was bad back then it was abandoned, as it would be today. The fact Windows made it through that? Means it's not entirely shit and has a purpose. And your constant bitching in this thread against Windows, while using a Linux distro makes you look like a zealot. Along the same lines as Pvt. Cupcakes, a known zealot.
Its sad that windows is catering to computer illiterate's. I remember getting my first handed down pc with win95 and spending every day trying to figure out everything about it. I think everyone should have to learn at least basic PC knowledge. If not then go buy a mac. Leave real PC's to the experts.

I haven't "bitched" at all, and yes, pvt. cupcakes is a twit

Designed for tablets and touch-screen usage. Have you ever tried using Classic, Luna or Aero on a touch screen? It isn't nice. It just feels wrong. Even with Win 7 and the touch optimizations on, it still feels bad. This is designed to make that nicer, and more natural. You can still use the Aero UI if you so desire.
wait does this mean we will be able to play xbox only games on the PC know! Fuck yea.

If Microsoft told everyone who wasn't a computer expert to go fuck themselves they would lose a lot of money.

What is wrong with having stuff easier to use?
I've had like a bazillion problems with Windows. I switched my SATA controller to AHCI yesterday and Windows will blue screen on bootup because of it. You have to do some stupid registry hack to get it to work. It blue screens constantly unless I take out half of my RAM, which coincidentally works fine in Linux. At a technical level Windows is pretty much garbage. The only thing it's done well is marketing. At this point there is so much vendor lock-in with Microsoft that's it's near impossible for any large scale migration to any other OS. I'm not going to argue about the Windows GUI or anything which I know a lot of people here like to talk about. I don't care about GUIs at all, and Window has an OK graphical interface. It's pretty much everything underneath the GUI that is broken by design.
and yes, pvt. cupcakes is a twit
:(
User error
Yeah my bad, I didn't know Windows 7 64-bit couldn't handle 8gb of RAM.
Windows installs a completely different kernel depending on if you have ACHI on or off. You're not going to fix it just with some stupid registry hack.
Yeah my bad, I didn't know Windows 7 64-bit couldn't handle 8gb of RAM.
What the hell are you talking about? I've seen plenty of people using Win7 64bit with 16 gigs of ram.
I just want to know what they've added to Windows 8 besides the stupid tablet PC interface. So far all I've heard is "It's Windows 7 but you can touch it :D".
Seriously, Private Cupcakes, you're like all my linux friends who've rarely touched a windows computer. They know the bad bits but that's all they look for.
It kind of feels right, what they are saying, Microsoft needs to move on from Windows. Not saying it's a bad brand at all, it just feels like it's time. Also the Xbox stuff seems exciting :) Can't wait.
there's no logical reason for people to use any microsoft windows OS. the fact that many people depend on it doesn't make it good
i'm not smart enough to use linux and i can't play games on mac
Windows installs a completely different kernel depending on if you have ACHI on or off. You're not going to fix it just with some stupid registry hack.
Nah. It doesn't install the AHCI driver if it's not enabled when you install the OS. The registry hack forces it to install. I don't know why it's not installed by default or before it blue screens when you enable it.
Windows installs a completely different kernel depending on if you have ACHI on or off. You're not going to fix it just with some stupid registry hack.
Actually it just uses a driver and can be fixed with a registry change. I've done it before.
