Yea guys lets edit the ancient scriptures to better fit modern society!
Let's see some proof that anything was actually changed. The Epic of Gilgamesh, as far as I know, hasn't been edited, and that's one old story, too.
I never understood why people still believe in religion. Oh well.
And I don't understand why people rob themselves of any hope or anything to look forward to whatsoever. If I didn't know better, I'd say atheists were also a variant of masochist.
Because false hope is bad. We we don't rob ourselves of hope. We just live with the facts of being a squidgy piece of CHONPS and those include being mortal.

:cawg:This. Why didn't I think of that.

ironically enough, it seems that people who actively worship god will be the ones to go to hell
fuckin religion holdin us back makin the world horrible fuc them!!!!!!!
Fucking religion.
Don't blame this on Religion in general. Not everyone who calls themselves Christian is a horrendous fuckwad. The Catholics have their share of problems, but most of the people involved in this kind of stuff are the church officials, not the people who follow the religion. That being said, this guy is a total ass for not only raping her but pretty much letting her take the punishment for getting pregnant with his child. Pity he'll probably only get a few years in prison.
Religion and spiritualism are different things, and religion is, and always will be, a burden to mankind.
If only the church could get over the whole no sex for clergy thing, then there would be less creepy old dudes raping 15 year olds. The problem isn't religion itself, just the wackos who insist that everything in the Bible be obeyed word for word. You make a good point though. Maybe if the Church took a more spiritualistic approach to things, or at least a freer, no pressure to conform one.

TV egangelists, church donations, letters of indulgance. Religion feeds off of a broken spirit, guilt and self-loathing means that they return out of reluctance. Meaning more money. Spitirualism is alot more about a personal deity, not any type of mental extortion. So why did they make her humiliate herself like that? Broken spirit, which means cash at the bank. Simple, huh? ALSO: To prove my point. Drinking is a sin. Sex is a sin. Drugs is a sin. Crossdressing is a sin. Homosexuality is a mortal sin. Enjoying stuff in general, again, sin. (IE: Gluttony, lust... Bla bla bla...) Religion is definatley out to break people.
You're supposed to hate the organization. not the personal beliefs.
It was the deacon's personal beliefs that led him to rape this girl. Not all personal beliefs are equal and right. Not at all.
It was the deacon's personal beliefs that led him to rape this girl. Not all personal beliefs are equal and right. Not at all.
So you're saying he comitted rape due to spiritualism? :psyduck: [editline]10:07PM[/editline] Nevermind, rate me bad reading.
Religious extremists always makes me sigh.
That church should be burnt to the ground. [editline]02:07PM[/editline]
Dumb, there is a huge difference between this church and most other churches. I used to go to church when I was a wee lad and all the people there were nice people, including the priests etc. I'm fairly sure none of them were fundamentalists/rapists. [editline]03:34PM[/editline] Well actually religion is a large part of what pulled us out of the dark ages, you could say. [editline]03:40PM[/editline] Not really saying it has much of a place in modern society, just saying that religion is keeping us in the dark age is dumb
So much evil in the worlds stems from religion. Christianity especially.
I assume this is the Catholic Church?
Oh come on, at least try to read first. Catholics usually aren't that bad about things like this, they're much more private, but do expect you to confess sins during reconciliation. However; Baptists are the worst with things like this. The constant drama, gossip, and general illogical behavior makes me question their sanity. I'm an Atheist and I can say I prefer the presence of a Catholic Priest more than I prefer the presence of a Baptist Minister.
Alright. Up until now. I was agnostic. I've just fell straight off the scale into Atheism thanks to this horrific tale of corruption. This is why i hate a majority of humanity. [editline]08:22PM[/editline] It is religion in general really, Man has always killed his fellow Man over petty things. Money, Shiny rocks, Oil. Religion, And for morale. I hate that..
At least her father wasn't a priest. A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)
;22443789']That church should be burnt to the ground. [editline]02:07PM[/editline] So much evil in the worlds stems from religion. Why can't they act like the Muslim extremists and riot in the streets and kill those they disagree with!?
If I didn't know better, I'd say atheists were also a variant of masochist.
Not submitting to the will of a god and an international religious association doesn't seem like something a person who willingly accepts abuse would do. What is hope for one person may be completely different than your definition of it. At least for me, I cannot live my life believing in something that is so illogical and intangible. Instead of devoting my life to fallacy and pleasing some higher power, I live my life the way that seems natural, I do what comes to me instinctively or logically. I look forward to what will happen to me later in life, I don't romanticize some baseless idea of an afterlife.
;22443789'] So much evil in the worlds stems from religion. Christianity especially.
People will always fall for any guiltmongering preacher who says they'll take away your immaginary guilt for money. Since if you don't donate: You'll get even more guilt.
I agree, guilt and fear play too large of a role in religion. I defend religion in general because most places don't dwell on the guilt part so much. Of course, I'm more spiritual so I don't get the whole donation guilt thing. Most of what I believe revolves around not being quite sure what comes after life so not making a huge guess is the smartest thing to do. I still believe in God though, so my disagreements with most religions are over methods, persecution (looking at you, Catholics) and the whole money thing. But these are all problems with the establishment, not the person. Judging Christians by the actions of a few clergy is like judging the average American by the actions of our elected officials.

He believes in god(well, I think he does, he is sort of vague on his beliefs), but doesn't believe any religion is correct. He also calls himself a Recovering Catholic because he used to go to Catholic School and was raised Catholic.

Belif, good, legislation, bad. Either way, if Jesus showed up here today to see what that pscyhopath Abraham had done to his word, he'd problably sigh deeply, saying "Wake me up in another few centuries..." and put a bullet in his head. I mean, come on. All the "sins" and all the homophobic bullshit and all of that is purley manmade, by an ainchet, bloodthirsty authority. So, well... You should belive in god, but you shouldn't really get it involved into politics, makes the world go backwards.
this is why wee dont hav religon in school jeebus christ so if i goten raped and i was in thiss heer church, they forc me to fuckin apologeyes. sik.
By your logic, I should start believing that I'll be fellated by magical unicorns for 12 hours straight next week, even though I have no evidence at all for it.
...so your idea of heaven is a 12 hour horse blow job.
...so your idea of heaven is a 12 hour horse blow job.
Maybe he's related to HQRSE or PQNY.
Abraham? He was around way before Jesus according to the bible.
He founded the concept of oppressive christianity.
Damn religion. Pastors take advantage of this shit to get their chubs on. Wouldn't be surprised if he was the rapist.
I have lost all hope in a god thanks to this kind of shit. I was sort of in the sliding scale of Agnostic/Atheist But now i'm sliding on down into Atheism. [editline]09:33AM[/editline] I mean, if there is a god he's probably gone off to make penis creatures like Spore or something.
