If you are alone and wind up actually threatened, you shoot to stop (kill). Tasers are to be deployed when another officer is standing there with a gun drawn. Many departments forbid using tasers alone outright and may terminate you if you fail to follow the procedure. The kid even managed to get up after being shot in the chest. Furthermore the campus police do not carry tasers at the school. On a side note I wish they would stop referring to them as campus security. They are not security, they are police.

Don't they train cops to shoot for anything but vital organs to stop target from progressing? Like, I dunno, the legs, thighs maybe? Dead stops them with minimal injury. Though it might be kinda hard to hit a target that moves as much as legs do.

In all likelihood the kid wasn't really a threat but I can definitely see why the officer would react how he did. The dude was a wrestler so I imagine he was built pretty solid. I wouldn't want to go toe to toe with him without backup, especially if he is on drugs.

Also, shooting someone in the leg can kill just as fast as shooting them in center mass if the bullet tears through an artery.
