You contribute nothing to a discussion when you enter it by calling everyone paranoid gun nuts and then going into another thread and banning someone who does the same type of thing in a different argument. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. It's not even disagreeing, it's straight up insulting or flaming a large amount of people.
I dont see rilez calling people gun nuts, hes just pointing out how bad the gun culture is in the us.
there's a great giant flaw when you look at it this way. sure the police need to keep the peace and sure they need an edge. but how much of an edge do they need? and then ask yourself the question, if america had no other choice than to go into all out revolution or civil war, that was necissary to take power away from those who do not deserve it.... what the fuck are normal civilians going to do? the right to bear arms was made up in mind that if america fucks itself to much the citizens can take up arms and unfuck the situation.
The right to bear arms was originally intended for the days when central government didn't really exist. America back then (and for many decades afterwards) had an incredibly weak central government that could barely keep things together. A standing army was an impossibility back then, meaning that for the most part, law, order, and military defense was basically left up to the individual because police forces, standing professional armies, taxation, (all the hallmarks of a modern state) simply didn't exist. America has a fairly strong central government with wide ranging powers now, and a lot of the original purposes that firearm ownership was intended for simply do not exist on the same scale anymore (hunting and militias being two big examples). That's why a lot of people don't give two shits about the second amendment or own firearms, it doesn't really apply to them anymore.
psure the right to bear arms had some notion attached to it about what i'm saying.
and what complete and utter bullshit. if they need them so bad then why isn't Brittan overrun with crime?
afaik gun crime is pretty low but knives tend to take their place, which is pretty cool as far as getting shanked in the ribs goes
afaik gun crime is pretty low but knives tend to take their place, which is pretty cool as far as getting shanked in the ribs goes
and I'll bet you're not allowed to carry a knife that could potentially be useful for self-defense, so if you're confronted by some chav with an illegal stiletto all you can do is hope there's a bobby nearby?? [editline]24th February 2013[/editline] since I know if you hurt the guy robbing you, you're liable to get prosecuted for assault
afaik gun crime is pretty low but knives tend to take their place, which is pretty cool as far as getting shanked in the ribs goes
Gun crime is low, but there's about a 3 and a half times more murders in the US. I think that's due to the lower lethality of a knife though. And under the new Tory laws (or perhaps old laws that the Tories restated more clearly, I can't remember) I'm pretty sure you can do whatever you want to someone if he enters your home, including shoot him.
I'm pretty sure you can do whatever you want to someone if he enters your home, including shoot him.
Wouldn't you need a firearm to do that?
Wouldn't you need a firearm to do that?
Yes you would. [editline]24th February 2013[/editline] We do have guns here, just not as many.
Wouldn't you need a firearm to do that?
The recent law change[or bring back] was after an incident involving a farmer who owned a shotgun for hunting. The farmer ended up decking two burglars, and they tried sueing him for, "damages they couldn't conceive" in short, the council[or whatever you guys have], laughed them straight out of the building, and the Torries re-worked certain laws regarding self defense.
yes look at these professional moderators engaging in circlejerks and ignoring debate rules that they themselves are supposed to enforce
I'm sorry that my opinion differs from your own and that I dislike gun culture? How am I engaging in a circlejerk by posting my view? [editline]24th February 2013[/editline]
You contribute nothing to a discussion when you enter it by calling everyone paranoid gun nuts and then going into another thread and banning someone who does the same type of thing in a different argument. Why would I ban someone for having an opinion?

I don't like gun culture. Rusty doesn't like gun culture. Are we not allowed to share similar views? I don't appreciate you putting words into my mouth, either. I'm not attacking anyone. I just don't like guns. Let me ban Rusty real quick because he has an opinion that differs from your own.
I disagree with Rilez and Rusty but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to express their opinions.
Gun culture is the worst. See: this thread.

I'm not attacking anyone. I just don't like guns.
Y'know, effectively saying 'you're all examples of what's wrong with this country' could just possibly be construed as attacking someone.
I disagree with Rilez and Rusty but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to express their opinions.
"In my opinion the US is a backwards redneck hellhole and this thread is an example of it please respect me."
Y'know, effectively saying 'you're all examples of what's wrong with this country' could just possibly be construed as attacking someone.
I said that gun culture is the worst. There are plenty of examples of gun culture in this thread that I don't like. That doesn't mean I think those people are "what's wrong with this country". It's not a personal attack. It's a way of life that I don't like for many different reasons, and I don't like the fact that it's being pushed on Americans in more ways than one. If you take personal offense to that, that's your problem. [editline]24th February 2013[/editline]
"In my opinion the US is a backwards redneck hellhole and this thread is an example of it please respect me."
Put more words in my mouth.

Just because your words didn't outright say it doesn't mean the context didn't allude to it: you think the US is a backwards redneck hellhole and that we are gun zealots.
You're telling me what I'm saying, while simultaneously getting offended by things I didn't actually say. I don't get where you're coming from at all. I think it's nice that you hate me and think I'm a moron. I thought you were the civil one here?

And rather ironically it's making you look a bit zealot-y.

And rather ironically it's making you look a bit zealot-y.
I'm frustrated because it's like I'm talking to 4 Kopimis at once, right now it's got nothing to do with the gun debate
You think you're a pro debater because you're wording your statements so that in order to respond to them the other side has to make some sort of assumption, then you jump on them and go I NEVER SAID THAT
You're assuming a whole lot, without me saying much of anything. Now I think I'm a pro debater. What's next?
You think you're a pro debater because you're wording your statements so that in order to respond to them the other side has to make some sort of assumption, then you jump on them and go I NEVER SAID THAT
He never claimed he was a pro debater either. Stop acting like you've swindled by a dastardly trickster, because in actuality you've just jumped to conclusions.
He never claimed he was a pro debater either. Stop acting like you've swindled by a dastardly trickster, because in actuality you've just jumped to conclusions.
But that's exactly what he's doing by quoting, agreeing with and perpetuating Rusty's shit through himself
these kinds of threads consist of people putting words in other people's mouths that and making up shit on the spot
But that's exactly what he's doing by quoting, agreeing with and perpetuating Rusty's shit through himself
Quoting and agreeing is claiming to be a pro debater? I'm not following.
Quoting and agreeing is claiming to be a pro debater? I'm not following.
Now you're putting words in my mouth, I didn't say he made any claims. I'm retaliating against what he is putting out as his beliefs; i.e. that America is full of mindless gun zealots, which he associated with himself by quoting and agreeing with the person who actually did say that And now I'm criticizing his desire to start shit by making that associating and then saying "well I didn't say that"
But that's exactly what he's doing by quoting, agreeing with and perpetuating Rusty's shit through himself
Dude dude calm down
