Fuck that I like this planet, let's toss them off.
You might be thinking of Jonathan Ross? Pretty sure that was a thing
I'm sorry for confusing the two, I remember it as being Mr. Fry.
Gotta love how anti-harassment crusaders harass the most.
"The end justify the means, even if the means are worse than leaving it be."
Those people don't know the concept of irony.
usually i would be like "this is the net, deal with it" but bipolar disorder is some srs shit that can get massively effected by this.
best of luck to the fry
He just did the 10 years on part to his documentary about Bipolar disorder, in it he talked about how he often self medicates with sleeping pills and vodka to get to sleep, pretty scary
Leave it to the internet to make a mountain out of a molehill, as per usual. Now I don't get to read his twitter posts, you absolute cunts.
What a big baby. This is the internet, what did he expect?
Said someone who will never experience the horror of waking up to thousands of people wanting to see you dead.

"This is the US, what did he expect?" said the bystander as the gunshot victims were taken away in the ambulances.

I agree, and I don't see why people can't understand your point of view! Of course, being mean on the internet is directly comparable to 1st degree murder

I was more comparing that because things are the norm doesn't mean they're right. Or you could just interpret my metaphor like an idiot and think I'm comparing online harassment to gun violence.

Lewd
So he deleted his Twitter account completely? Were people sending death threats and shit?
This seems to be more of a case of people getting upset that someone (to their eyes) insulted someone else they like or respect. If someone insulted some of the people I respect, I would most certainly respond insultingly in kind. I believe that's a fairly normal reaction, and I believe the reaction his words garnered on Twitter is to be expected.
i wouldn't respond to it because i don't have some pathological need to attack people on the internet for insulting someone who i might like but have no relation to. if someone, like, insulted kojima at an awards show i wouldn't go @ them "FUCK YOU YOU PIECE OF SHIT" on twitter because that seems like something a psychopath would do. maybe if i had some kind of personal relationship with the person insulted i would defend them but i wouldn't go out of my way to yell at one celebrity for being mean to another celebrity, that just seems like a weird and needlessly hostile thing to do. why not let the people actually involved in the situation work it out?
I wish the word offended would disappear from existence
I wish the word offended would disappear from existence
People would just say problematic even more.
People would just say problematic even more.
I'm problematic by these turn of events!
I'm problematic by these turn of events!
'Problematic' is a great word, though, it instantly lets you know you've met someone you should avoid forever.
'Problematic' is a great word, though, it instantly lets you know you've met someone you should avoid forever.
But that's why it's great.
Someone uses it in a serious way? Well you know they're gonna be massive hypocrites.
'Problematic' is a great word, though, it instantly lets you know you've met someone you should avoid forever.
I use problematic as intended. :(
For unexpected problems.

Perhaps for you, but I believe that to be a fairly normal reaction. The tweets I saw seemed to be reasonably critical, but we can of course assume there were trolls. They are always going to exist, and I'd argue that learning to ignore obviously trollish posts is an essential skill if you're posting your thoughts online (something Stephen Fry seems incapable of doing). Such people are going to be inherent in an environment where free speech is allowed.
I guess you didn't already see this:
You forget that this wasn't made apparant until after he made his original post.
You forget that this wasn't made apparant until after he made his original post.
So you got the green light to be offended on behalf of someone else, and jumped the gun. That's your problem, not Stephen Fry or bag lady's.
'Problematic' is a great word, though, it instantly lets you know you've met someone you should avoid forever.
Which sucks when it's your Sociology teacher
Seriously the first day and she's talking about privilege, pls help
Poor Fry. Those anti-bullies sure love to bully
Please please don't do anything foolish, Stephen. Not again.
He can always join FP and be a shit lord like us without anyone knowing who he really is.
Watch Fry turn out to secretly be some well-known fp shitposter who maintains his dignified public decorum by getting all his shit out in anonymity. I somehow think he'd stick out like a sore thumb, though.
I'm sorry for confusing the two, I remember it as being Mr. Fry.
Ross's son posted a photo of himself with Fry as proof that he was at some thing involving both Ross and Fry, but the proof was that he's related to Ross, not Fry.

Exactly what Stephen Fry would say to divert attention from him.

Except for the "having to take Lithium to control bipolar" aspect, I wish. I'd live a lot more comfortably, at least.
God damn people only care about bipolar when Stephen Fry does something.
I know how he feels and how it feels to come into this thread reading the posts almost immediately pointing at his bipolar and "I hope he doesn't kill himself". Give the man some credit over his own thoughts.
I love the guy to my absolute core and genuinely care for him but I feel that had to be said.

I was more referring to him deleting his Twitter and all. I worry that he's going to overreact and do something foolish, like when he fled to Belgium to commit suicide (but didn't go through with the last part).
Stephen Fry should not have been maliciously attacked like this. People seriously need to learn a joke is a joke. Perhaps it was a bit silly for Fry to have not anticipated this sort of reaction beforehand. However, who's to say he has to? Right of free speech is there for a reason. If his friend wasn't offended by it, I do not see the issue here.
Some people are just too jealous of other people's success. I do not see why Fry seems to be a particular victim of these attacks. He is an inspiration to many, and very intelligent.
His documentary on Bipolar, as well as QI, and his various documentary style videos on literature and the English Language show what a treasure he is to this nation and I hope he makes a new account. His thoughts are worth being heard.
