Maybe the waiter did a shitty job.
It works on service charge mostly IIRC, the reciept might say "10% Service Charge" but it's only a guideline. In nearly every restaurant i've been to the service has been fine or great but if it were shit then i definately wouldn't tip. [editline]30th May 2012[/editline] I always tip at least 50p
The service fee or charge is, by law, included in the price of the dinner when eating at a restaurant in the Netherlands.

I lost my faith in mankind, I don't want to live here anymore! :v:
Nobody gives a flying fuck if a guy tips or not, I don't even care that it's Mark, just let the guy get on with his life.
maybe he doesn't believe in giving tips?
I tip whenever i go to a south east asian country, no matter how small the service. I do my bit to contributing to their stuggling econmy by supporting their tourism.
Tips are waaaaay too expected of these days. I'm lucky if I go home with 5 bucks in my pocket in tips on a busy day.
You never have to tip. They do expect it though.
Well they can fuck right off, I already pay €8-9 for a pizza hawaii (i.e. a margarita with pineapple out of a can)
They expected a tip from a jew? :v: [sp]Sorry I couldn't help it.[/sp]
The News media is utter tripe at this point
I dunno about you guys, but that meal sounds disgusting.
Isn't tipping sometimes an excuse for employers to underpay their staff?
what is it with people going apeshit when a wealthy person doesnt give a tip? people have their reasons, maybe the food wasnt that good or the service was just bunk. even though i hate marck for his opinion on privacy i have to step up for him here cos not al restaurants deserve a tip. [editline]30th May 2012[/editline] and if ur going to the press to bitch about it you certainly dont deserve a tip.
Tips are only necessary if you're in China or something where the waiters are heavily underpaid. Even then you really shouldn't give them a tip because they may be part of the local mafia and they'll hunt you down for more money because you're rich and Western.
American waiters/waitresses are usually paid below minimum wage so they rely on tips to make a living
Big deal. I'm sure he was just upset at the state of FB's stock price and forgot.
for a price that huge, I wouldn't even pay for it.
Since when is $32 a lot of money for food? I mean it isn't the amount the average person pays for food when going out, but if the quality is that good I wouldn't mind shelling out that amount for good food. It's like what my dad taught me, quality over quantity, you'll never regret the decision after tasting the difference. And besides, I've had $100 meals and up before, but you definitely get what you pay for.
I would pay about €21,50 a person for a 3 course dinner at a not-too-classy restaurant I'd say. That's just for the dinner too. 30$ isn't expensive at all.
It's interesting that he's reached "people registering mundane things you do or stop doing" celebrity level. You don't see that often with internet millionaires.
And besides, when I was out in NYC, $16-$20 lunches were were the thing for me. I'm not going to pay $5-$10 for shitty fast food. The only fast food place I'm even willing to pay money for is In N Out, since the quality is actually good.

My friend is pizza delivery boy and he is paid 4€ an hour, works 10 hours a day. He has 5€ bonus everyday because of tips :)
5 euro tea? Jesus fuck what kind of luxurious tea was that?
Big deal, maybe the service wasn't even good.
5 euro tea? Jesus fuck what kind of luxurious tea was that?
Tea made out of a plant that only grows on the top of mount everest and holy water sanctified by the pope himself.
Since when was tipping a requirement? If service is shit I leave shit. Literally I squat on the table and leave them a log of joy as a parting gift.
Tipping culture is something I thought was only apart of North America, not Europe In NA, you generally tip 10% for allright service, 15% for standard, 20% for good service. Waitresses make less than minimum wage becuase tips consititute almost half of their income. It's considered a huge insult to not tip, and generally makes you out to be a scrooge (as with tipping culture, you tip for services). In europe though, I was under the impression that tipping is frowned upon, and can even be considered an insult in certain regions.

It's just not required of you to do (usually anyways), because most if not all country's in Europe know some form of a fixed minimum wage as in you can't make less than minimum wage.
I tip when I feel like it. It's never a requirement to tip. Well here in the UK that is.
