I can't find out how deep the hole was. Anyone know?
10 meters?
They say a ventilation grate collapsed and a group of concert-goers fell 10 metres (33ft) into an underground parking area.

Didn't the captain of that ferry that capsized in South Korea a year or two back off himself as well?
Yeah, maybe less people would die if they would actually do their fucking jobs instead of offing themselves after the fact.
Yeah, maybe less people would die if they would actually do their fucking jobs instead of offing themselves after the fact.
It's an honor related thing that's extremely prevalent in a lot of East Asian countries (particularly Japan and South Korea). Rather than face the potential outcry and shame, they'll commit suicide. I guess you could say that it's like seppuku (just without the painful self-disembowelment).
I have a morbid fear of grates (any covering), I always walk around them or jump them.
I purposely walk on them to prove my courage
What's up with the 10 meter figure? Korean news is saying it's 20 meters. You can see that the supports for the grate just gave up, they were never designed to support any weight. That grate really didn't look like it was meant for people to stand on or walk on.. I remember when I was being raised I was taught to never walk on anything that is covering a great big hole (manhole covers, grates like that, etc). Yep, a simple security guard stationed at that vent grate would have stopped this from ever happening. Or some kind of a fence around it. You just can't take the risk. Yes, they may have been dumb for getting on that grate, but they weren't responsible for the place's security.

I certainly wouldn't be able to handle blaming myself for sixteen plus deaths.
Personally, I think them trying to find who is "at fault" is stupid. No one is, that's the primary definition of an accident.
They were responsible for the place's security. But yes, accidents do happen and people die. But in this case, of a concert, you bet your ass someone's fucking responsible. Personally, I find it fucked how all the guilt seems to be pin-pointed on just one person. Yeah, he may have been the Overseer of security, but things can be easily overlooked, like this vent grate. Did no one else in the staff at the event notice this an issue and maybe, I'dno, bring it up and do something about it before you let the concert-goers in? [editline]18th October 2014[/editline] Judging by the pictures, it's a public area too, and the vent grate has been there unrestricted for God knows how long, and people have been walking past it for years, so it's not a wonder that the Chief overlooked this possible hole in the security. And he's also dead now. It's basically the case of a captain going down with his own ship, along with the rest of the unfortunate passengers.
