nope
good, this time i lost interest in notch's game BEFORE buying it.
Oh please Notch take my money.
Jesus christ everything in that video is the definition of generic sci fi
In other news, Notch expresses interest in buying a unicorn so he can fly it to the North Pole and meet Santa.
Going back to that subscription fee – isn’t everyone else backing away from that payment model as fast as they can? Will it work for an indie game? Maybe – we’ll see! We might change the model if the players want some kind of free-to-play system, as they call it. Not that it is really free – because the expected revenue for a free-to-play game is higher than from the paying customers.
Source Just ask for it, that's all.
Honestly, I don't understand why this has to have pay-per-month fees (assuming it's monthly). Plenty of MMOs are a one time buy (eg. Guild Wars & Guild Wars 2).
Surely the wisest thing to do would just be to sell it like he sold minecraft? There are so many minecraft fans, the money he could make from people buying it just because it's made by Mojang alone could fund the servers for months. If he does stick with monthly payments, it may be a nice idea to see if monthly costs less than £5 could work well.

This doesn't seem like the kind of game where cosmetics would fit, unless you want to start paying for texture packs.
You guys are stupid. Any P2P model for 0x10c will be for processing power to host the "hyperplayer" mode which is basically a huge server. 0x10c is built around players having a DCPU-16 computer that the player can program, which the server has to emulate. I understand you all love to hate Notch, but it's totally reasonable to charge a subscription fee for a MMO.
Everyone complains about Notch being greedy; I don't get it. Game designers need money, game designers with money need and want MORE money. It doesn't matter if it's Valve, EA (okay EA is just plain greedy), Notch, or another Indie developer.
Throwing this out there for something to chew on. My experience with pay to play has been significantly improved support. I have not played WoW enough to have a real definite opinion on this, but every person I know who did play WoW had glittering reports about it's support system written with in ink extracted from rainbows and sunshine. The support system wasn't perfect, and it became a lot more formulaic later in the game's life, but they all had experiences where a GM came and assisted them personally within minutes, and several had numerous incidents where they discussed a bug with GMs in person. I cannot think of any f2p, or pay once MMO that can honestly boast the same level of support. I think it's ridiculous to charge a subscription and for expansions, let alone not having the occasional free server transfer as part of your sub, but one thing that I've heard time and time again is that you could not knock WoW's support. I don't know if that still remains true today, but I think it is safe to say that subscriptions are not inherently evil in an MMO environment.
You know of Minecraft, yeah? That cube based indie game made in Java that has no artstyle and is still full of half-completed features and runs like shit? This is what Minecraft got Notch, among other things: http://kotaku.com/5948142/you-wont-believe-how-nice-notchs-office-is Now considering that the release of 0x10c will bring in holyshitfuck tons of money off of the initial sale, I find it very hard to believe that he actually *needs* money to run a server. Notch literally became a overnight millionaire. He doesn't pay employees, he doesn't need to worry about keeping the lights on in the office, he doesn't have to worry about feeding a family of hungry mouths. He made a game which is pretty much something your average college student makes for their programming(or whatever) project and then slapped a $20 pricetag on it and buggered off for vacation on a awesome cruise. I'll start believing this man needs money when he actually acts like it.
Are you really saying that Notch should lose money from 0x10c because he's capable of running the server on money he already has?
Are you really saying that Notch should lose money from 0x10c because he's capable of running the server on money he already has?
Let's toss some statistics here: http://minecraft.net/stats Minecraft has sold 8,186,705 copies. Let's just say every copy sold at the Alpha price, which was $17 IIRC. That means $139,173,985. Now imagine that Mojang ran a superserver for Minecraft. Do you really think they couldn't afford to run it out of that?

He's tried to pull shit on his customers numerous times, and work his way out of legal contracts that he made without consulting sound legal advice. He's thrown temper tantrums, started numerous idiotic flame wars with core members of his community, and countless other things to earn him the title of being his country's resident fucknugget. I even think this product is gimmicky and stupid. I also think he wants to overcharge for it. Nevertheless, expecting a company to pay for the long term stability of one product with the proceeds off of another when the two products have nothing in common is completely ridiculous. He stands to gain nothing by doing so. Google maintains tons of services at enormous cost to themselves because it solidifies their image, and their place in the market, and allows them to make revenue off of their core product, advertisements. Notch has none of this interconnection between his titles. They could be made by entirely seperate groups of people.

I honestly don't see this game making less than 50 mil if for no other reason than riding Minecraft's coat tails.

My apologies then, though your post is extremely vague if that was your intended message. EDIT:
whenever i see your posts you always seem angry for no discernable reason share with us, zephyrs, why you are so angry
You are reading into it I believe. I try to remove excessive padding from content because I am overly verbose and things come out harsh as a result. This is entirely offtopic. If you want elaborations, send me a profile message or a private message.
Until we get some further development on the game I feel it's unsafe to judge the pricing. If the game ends up like how Notch plans I could probably understand a need for the subscription model. (Maybe $5 a month) Until then it's just a matter of patience.

This isn't the way to go about it; subscription-based models are not the way to go about selling your game even as an "MMO". WoW is one of the only examples of it working, and even now it's starting to falter.

If it's sub based, everyone just go play Starbound, it's the same game but 2d. /Notch
Didn't the faq for 0x10c say that free to play was a hoax/scam?
It was in an unofficial FAQ documenting information. https://twitter.com/notch/status/187298042087604224 Further proof to notch's dumbassery. A lot of F2P games do it right. Tribes Ascend, the first few months of APB Reloaded, Blacklight Retribution, Champions online to name a few. Notch is just trying to find an excuse to charge more than he should at this point.

Wow, that rich, fat, money-loving cunt.
Wow, that rich, fat, money-loving cunt.
iknorite people should have no right to make money and should throw away money to please a bunch of entitled teenagers who just sit on the computer flaming them all day all rich people are cunts regardless of whether they worked hard, got lucky, or inherited money fuck authority In all seriousness it's pretty reasonable to charge a monthly fee for this. The point of a business is to turn a profit, then keep turning a profit using the profit of previous products to make new profitable products, not to just make 1 successful product and then sit on it or throw it all away. You guys need to get off your high horses and stop being armchair CEOs.
Oh please Notch take my money.
Reminds me of Quake 2.
This looks excessively shit. Reminds me of Red Faction, when you replay it and find that your memories have better graphics.
