Saying the word nigger isn't racist. It's distasteful, definitely, but pretending Jeremy Clarkson is some scandalous evil bastard for a word that he didn't even say just makes them look like fucking idiots.
These days saying the word 'nigger' in any context whatsoever is deemed racist. It's ridiculous. I've got an Agatha Christie book on my bookcase called 'Ten Little Niggers'. Doesn't mean that Agatha Christie was a racist. You still don't find that book with the original title any more though.
Clarkson could do top gear on net flix or something and bosha, the BBC will cry in a hole because all they really have are doctor who and top gear
Well, doesn't BBC own Top Gear? I don't think he could just do literally Top Gear somewhere else. Or maybe he could, but with a different name.
bbc can go suck a big one
Well, doesn't BBC own Top Gear? I don't think he could just do literally Top Gear somewhere else. Or maybe he could, but with a different name.
They could absolutely take the format elsewhere and just give it a different name. I'd hate for the show to have adverts in the middle of it, but it would be worth it if the BBC goes too far with it's oversight.
Alternate title: BBC doesn't want money
No star presenter is bigger than the BBC though every star presenter they've lost over the past few years for one reason or another has lost them millions of viewers and listeners to their TV and Radio stations.
The best part about Top Gear is that it's the last bastion of political incorrectness in the UK. They're not afraid to cause controversy for a laugh and you can't get more "British" than that. Hell I still watch it every morning on Dave before work as it gets me ready for the day.

Anyone considering writing in and complaining to the BBC about the way they are going about this, seeing as they take a minute amount of complaints on board?
I highly doubt they'll sack him, and frankly I think this is just a placebo to abate the whiners. After all, if they just say they'll do more in future, that will likely secure them, and maybe next time they'll be less inclined to think that somebody is a bigot just because their stage personality is 'whopping great, ageing arsehole'. At the same time though, I'm not sure Top Gear would be totally dead without one of them. I mean, back when Hammond was recovering from his crash, the show went on, and they even made some jokes about it. Not to mention that the show had existed for years before any of them were presenting it.
Wait, they are really taking this thing serious?! I think a firestorm will unleash when they ditch Clarkson. He always makes me laugh and Top Gear has been one of my favorite shows from when I was little..
It really doesn't matter what he said at this point, he's apologized sincerely many times now and it keeps getting brought up for no reason.
There is a reason - so small people can feel important.
Was the "racist" comment even that bad? I mean fucking hell I've heard much worse. Plus it was a song that he quoted.
iirc he said the eeny meeny miny moe nursery rhyme and it was a slip of the tongue. I don't know, that looked like a fairly innocent instance of the word, considered it was a lapsus and all. And that he apologized many times.
Actually, he said "Eeny meeny miney moe, cmmm ehm emmemm emmm bem hem terrmm, em shem heremers lerm him go, eeny meeny miney moe!"
iirc he said 'eeny meeny miny moe catch the nigger by the toe' and it was a slip of the tongue. I don't know that looked like a fairly innocent instance of the word, considered it was a lapsus and all.
He mumbled the word out the first two times, so he wasn't even saying it. The third time he said 'teacher' I believe. This shouldn't even be an issue. After he realised that in one of the videos it sounds like he is saying it (if you listen very carefully with headphones on), he requested that the footage not be aired. That should have been the end of it. This has just been brought up by the tabloids to cause controversy where there is none. But then that's generally what they do when they want to sell papers, plus the Mirror used to have Piers Morgan as an editor. Wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with this.
I'm not going to watch Top Gear if they get rid of Clarkson. The BBC can blow me.
Alan Partridge was right, the BBC is full of tossers, even if it was satire.
steve coogan also said that jeremy clarkson is a colossal unfunny cunt and he was right there too
Yep. I wouldn't want to work for a company where I can get sacked for saying something that offends someone somewhere.
Jesus, man. There can't be many companies you'd be willing to work for, then.
Jesus, man. There can't be many companies you'd be willing to work for, then.
Yeah, but here's the problem: st_nick said "someone". (hint: not plural) Why should we cater to the few who are offended? In some cases it would be understandable if I offended my boss or something, but if someone down the street can't handle my humor while everyone's laughing, maybe the problem isn't me but him.
steve coogan also said that jeremy clarkson is a colossal unfunny cunt and he was right there too
"I dont like this thing! No one should be allowed to like this thing!"
"I dont like this thing! No one should be allowed to like this thing!"
If you want to use Steven Coogan as a way to attack the BBC, you should also accept that you can use Steven Coogan to attack Clarkson. Because Coogan dislikes Clarkson more than the BBC :)
Top Gear is boring now any way, they've run out of ideas.
Top Gear is boring now any way, they've run out of ideas.
I stopped watching episodes from about 2009.. Only a special here and there have been good. But overall, it's become VERY dreary and nothing out of the ordinary. There was a race they had in Japan with public transport vs. a Nissan and they have NEVER matched the goodness since.
We forget how long its been going. They can only make an essentially boring topic interesting to a general audience for so long. They've done pretty good though but its had its day.
Damn right he isn't untouchable
Its somewhat refreshing to hear Jeremy swear :v:
"I dont like this thing! No one should be allowed to like this thing!"
i'm stating my opinion on an internet forum that only exists because it's a place for people to talk about their opinions i'm not saying people aren't allowed to enjoy the things i dont enjoy, i'm just saying what i don't enjoy me stating anything is, simply by connection, my opinion, and i shouldn't have to explicitly explain that to you
Damn right he isn't untouchable
I love that moment when he realises what's about to happen and tries to escape.
wow i didn't know people hated top gear USA that much, i love it hope clarkson doesn't get tossed out just because he said something on a blooper reel
