Maybe this is a sign that eventually there will also be a Brutal Legend 2.
What I don't get it that just because he liked the first one, why is Notch willing to spend millions on a second game. This is confusing because I read in an article that while Psychonauts had a good fan following, it had rather poor sales.. so it is highly likely be a huge loss unless he could guarantee profit? (AFAIK they lost over 5 million? Correct if wrong)
poor sales initially, it's almost certainly caught up now, especially with the Steam release. with a cult following behind it, a sequel would almost certainly perform well.
Maybe Notch doesn't care about making a profit? Maybe he just really liked the first Psychonaughts, and wants to see the second one be made? There's more to the world than just making money. Albeit, that is a primary motivator for most things in modern society.
Besides, with the reputation the original has now, there would be a good chance that it would basically be a license to print cash for whoever held the publishing rights to the IP.

It seems that Notch has money
It seems that Notch has money
No shit, Sherlock.
Hahahaha "let's"
Time to compile a list of sequels we'd love to see and send it to Notch, ey?
Time to compile a list of sequels we'd love to see and send it to Notch, ey?
Star wars battlefront 3 better be on the top of that list.
Oh man I can't wait for this game, if the plot continues Raz'll be fighting crime and shit.
I want a remake of Grim Fandango, like Monkey Island got
i'm just hoping for a milkman conspiracy-esque level if the offer's accepted
Oh man I can't wait for this game, if the plot continues Raz'll be fighting crime and shit.
The first did have an obvious sequel hook. But as it is with sequels with power progression, they'd have to think of a way to let you start from zero again so new players have an equal experience. If they're going for a more linear approach they could make the new Big Bad give Raz amnesia and he's only slowly recovering his lost abilities while also learning new techniques. That could also make the Big Bad instantly a huge threat considering the setting. Destroying people's minds certainly seems like a step up from think tanks.
Star wars battlefront 3 better be on the top of that list.
Right next to Freedom Fighters, of course. And I swear to God if you've owned a Playstation 2 and have never played Freedom Fighters you need to go pick up a copy. NOW.
i'm just hoping for a milkman conspiracy-esque level if the offer's accepted
They should let Hideo Kojima write the plot for such a level, I'm sure he has plenty of experience with batshit insane stories.
Hey, Wii60, go here: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1161923, and steal the OP or something, it's more up to date.
These indie developers are in it just for fun, Notch seems like he just likes games, and doesn't seem to care much for the money aspect.
Who doesn't, Psychonauts was amazing. But I hope it won't be a console exclusive, like stacking, Brütal Legend and Iron Brigade were.
I think Double Fine has said they're bringing Stacking to the PC soon.
only 2 words can sum up this news, DO IT
Facepunch has now persuaded me into buying Psychonauts.

Kinda like 2001: A Space Oddysey, and like ten other films now considered the greatest ever made.
Stop giving away money and WORK ON YOUR BLOODY GAME NOTCH. seriously.
Stop giving away money and WORK ON YOUR BLOODY GAME NOTCH. seriously.
I'd prefer Psychonauts 2 over a finished minecraft any day.
Stop giving away money and WORK ON YOUR BLOODY GAME NOTCH. seriously.
But Psychonauts Why would you want any other game
Stop giving away money and WORK ON YOUR BLOODY GAME NOTCH. seriously.
It's jeb's now where have you been
A level where everything is cubes
You go into the mind of an antisocial person with severe OCD.
You go into the mind of an antisocial person with severe OCD.
A good percent of the Minecraft players.
Jesus christ. JESUS CHRIST. Notch, i want to kiss your beard.
Facepunch has now persuaded me into buying Psychonauts.
I should really finish it.
Now, the real question is, can it live up or (better yet) surpass the original?
