Ugh this is an example of why extreme atheists are just as annoying as extremely religious people and I just refer to myself as "non-religious". Science isn't supposed to be an alternative to religion, or vice versa. Science is based on evidence, while Religion is based on faith and you can neither prove it nor disprove it. The world would be fine if people didn't force their views on each other but that will never happen.

Not to mention that religion also helped to preserve literacy during the middle ages.
