World's richest woman says the poor need to stop being jealous and work harder, and Australia should
"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire. If you're jealous of those with more money don't just sit there and complain, do something to make more money yourself. Spend less time drinking, smoking and socializing and more time working."
Holy fuck does this woman think that money is infinite?
If we are all millionaires, then we are all equally wealthy. A millionaire is only relevant if there are people who aren't millionaires to exploit.

But the problem is that in order to make a million, someone else needs to fail at making a million. If everyone who worked hard became a millionaire then a million dollars wouldn't be worth shit, it would be bread money.
Theoretically we could have a society of nothing but millionaires. Convenience would probably lead to the numbers being changed, but having a civilization entirely of people with jets and mansions and yachts isn't impossible.
It'd just require a few billion fewer people alive.
I give up on this argument, you can have fun tearing me apart because you're all insecure of your financial stability and future, but honestly I don't care what about your toils. All I'm saying is that you guys are mad jealous and to deal with the way life works and instead direct your anger and effort towards working.
This is always such a funny talking point, because it never genuinely comes from anybody well-off. The upper class says this shit so they can use the middle class as a shield. I've never heard anyone in the middle class say this unironically, even right-leaning, unless they fell there from the upper or stumbled in from the lower.
What is all this horse-shit about being jealous of her money? I personally wouldnt know what to do with that much money. What pisses me off isnt that shes better off than me, or even that she inherited all that wonga without working for a penny of it, good for her! that was lucky!, its the sheer hypocrisy of what shes saying. she accuses the working classes of being lazy and states that they find themselves in poverty becuase they arent working hard enough.... and yet, she doesnt work at all and damn well looks lazy to me, but still has billions.

Clementine, I have come through this thread, reading the article, forming my own opinion before being swayed by others due to their opinion. In truth, after seeing your "debate" with other people, I have formed an opinion on you.
I wish not to flame but to criticize. What you've been typing is the most redundant, idiotic and inconcievable thought, you are promoting this woman, physical appearance not withstanding, a tycoon who has been born into all of her money which her parents most likely set up everything for her.
We are not insulting her education, perhaps she could be smarter than us, perhaps, but, it doesn't show, she's an inconcievable mass of greed that it has shown upon her figure, as you're a mass of naiveness. It is clearly shown that she wishes to sacrifice the welfare of the masses for herself, that she destroy the most basic rights of people being able to be independent as much as they can. We are not arguing of the person's stewardship when they're handled a check of #, we do not care if they spend it all on alchohol, or throw it in the stocks and live frugally then make off like bandits. We're arguing that they cannot support themselves with 2$ an hour, especially in a first world country.
We have been trying to get this through your head, but somehow, someway, it isn't going against, other posters, and now myself, have been telling you that you don't get what we're arguing for, and instead of stopping and observing our viewpoint from our side as we have done from yours, you incessently reject it without reading it like a child, and then declare yourself right, even though the overwhelming majority, nay, ALL OF THIS THREAD, is against you.
This isn't some nerdy teenage angst worked up, rueing the upper class or anyone makes a buck more than us, this is defending our rights from the people who hold a huge sway over the economy of a country, and thus the politics of it. We don't go out and point and yell at a man driving his 100k$ Car, we instead go out and yell at the bullshit that is happening to the majority of the population, that sacrifices their rights, to profit not even 1% of the country's population.
TL;DR - Read it Clementine.
Batshit retarded. Sounds like she's disconnected to the point of autism; she'd much prefer it if everyone worked for african wages since it'd allow her to maximise profit margins with the excuse of providing 'jobs for all', unfortunately african/chinese wages are low because they lack laws/the ability to enforce any significant kind of welfare for their workers. I hate it when this kind of argument comes up since it's so easily dismissed by anyone remotely grounded in reality.

Maybe the homeless should spend their time trying to get it back together instead of trying to think of something witty to write on a piece of cardboard

Recipe? Being smart, working hard, and not just HARD like throwing work at a wood board and complain about how you don't get paid nothing, work hard in a field that makes money, a field that has a lot of opportunities to be turned into an insanely lucrative job.
...Are you really... fucking...
...Duncan Bannatyne...?
...Is this just some elaborate self-parody? Nobody can be this fucking stupid.
Just ignore clementine, this can't be the first time you've all had an adverse reaction to the retardation presented in his posts.
In this case he's not going to listen to any of your arguments because he's utterly convinced he can become a millionaire and you saying it's not as easy as working hard fucks with his fragile reality.
Hard Work Does Not Equal More Money. Is Every Hard Working Person You Know Rich?
You Can Live Your Life As A Slave Or You Could Live It As A King
not to disagree with your comment but yes to your question. I understand your point though.
I have no problems with what she's said. A lot of us Australians are just flat out lazy and do nothing but slack off at work and complain about how tough life is all day long. I've had to work my fucking arse off for the last 12 years but it's getting me to a point where I can finally say I'm fairly happy with my financial and life situation. Yet I have to spend all day listening to lazy bastards all around me bitching and moaning about our government and how tough life is, all the while they're barely putting any effort into their work and not even trying to save or improve their finances.
All it takes is a little focus and dedication. Us Australians were all hard yakka not even 30 years ago, but christ we've become a soft, whiny, whingey bunch lately. Not making enough money? Job's too hard? Can't save enough pennies? Blame the government. Blame the rich people. Blame anyone but yourself and your own piss poor financial management. I'm not trying to generalize but I see it every day and it drives me nuts. Work hard, save your money, don't have 4 kids by the time you're 20 and stop pointlessly wasting money on expensive alcohol and cigarettes and shit every week. By the time you hit 30 you'll have more than likely positioned yourself financially so that you can do what you want in life without all this worry.
It's really not THAT hard...
I'd like to have a conversation with this woman face to face about her ignorance.
The only problem is that i would have to slap her and ride the wave in to see her face to face.
spend more time working so you can become a millionaire
at $2 a day
I have a feeling that, no matter how much money she has, she is going to have trouble finding a man.
dat gurl aint got no love in'er

Okay, one--I don't care how much hard work you put in, you will not have 19 billion dollars as a result of it. Two, why act like it's impossible to poor off without being lazy, a slob, or bad at finance management?
This is why communism killed millions of people. THIS.
As if she did any real work to get all that...
What a fucking bitch.
"Cut Australian wages to Africa level"
But, we're a first world western country?
FUCK YA SHITCUNT
I could understand this if she actually made her money herself, not inherited it. She's acting real fucking entitled, so to hell with her.

Why wouldn't you be able to make billions off hard work?? Her dad did, which is why she inherited so much. I agree that he's wrong on the other point.
in mining the person with the money isn't the one doing the hard work...

For fuck's sake.
No one becomes a billionaire of hard work alone. Some of the hardest working people I know are also some of the poorest. Have you people not heard of a thing called circumstance?
Without being in the right circumstances you are not getting that money. Her dad may have been a hard worker, but regardless he was in a situation that allowed him to get to that level of income. Not everyone has or ever will have access to that circumstance.
Does anyone know how one could contact this woman? I Would like to give her a piece of my mind and complaining here is not gonna do it for me..

Okay, of course circumstance plays a huge role in lots of cases. But Lang also didn't start off as a mining magnate, nor did his family. They were middle class, maybe upper middle class as I imagine quite a few Facepunchers are. He bought a small mine and sold half to a mining company which made him buckets of money, then he sold it off and kept growing his business. I'm not saying he's a working class hero but there also is a level of hard work that he put into establishing his businesses that shouldn't be ignored because Gina got a free ride.
So yes, circumstance played an important role, but so did entrepreneurship and hard work in this case.
he built his company on the backs of the miners who are probably one of the hardest working people in an industrialized country.
there are thousands of miners, and there aren't that many "mining magnate's"
in mining the person with the money isn't the one doing the hard work...
Obviously these levels of wealth aren't even close to comparable, but miners make money in Australia. Engineers, geologists, general managers etc. can make around $150k. Skilled workers, like open cut inspectors can get $250k. That's the reason Gina's complaining. And it makes sense for people out of the industry to complain (not her) because mining is our current boom and real high wages are going to make it hard to compete internationally. If China's economy is slowing there won't be a big demand for expensive coal and iron over there.
[editline]6th September 2012[/editline]
The miners absolutely earn their money, to clarify my position. Gina has no place to criticise wages anywhere. But to suggest that Lang's fortune was all circumstance is misleading, as is treating miners as the downtrodden underclass of society here.

So uh, you're basically reaffirming what I said.
Not everyone who works hard gets to be a billionaire. Circumstance is everything.
It absolutely should be ignored when the words are coming from someone who did NOTHING to gain that wealth. She rolled over her fat ass one day to find her dad was dead and now she was rich. The most work she's ever done is lifting a fork to her mouth, which to give credit where it's due, she looks like she's pretty fucking good at that.

I never said I disagreed with you, I just thought you sounded like you were saying he was just lucky to be born into riches too.
Also I think Gina's probably doing some hard work in jimmying her way into the political system. No one with no brain (or sophisticated team of executives) is going to buy up 14.9% (just under the buyout and control threshold) of an opposing media organisation, trash its reputation in six weeks then dump it.
