Reddit being bigger isn't an excuse for it being a scummy place, even 4Chan has been more respectable than most subreddits recently, which really does say a lot.
I mean, I don't even see that sort of shit unless I'm on /b/, and even then it's really rare, there's no boards that cater to that sort of stuff.
Reddit's administration is fucking sick.
Users create their own subreddits with just a couple clicks, and assign mods to those. The people who run Reddit don't take part in the setup, and it's nigh impossible for them to keep an eye on the tens of thousands of subforums on that website.
Take scale and administration into account, please.

One word /r/picturesofdeadkids. Yes, it's real.....
FP is micro-managed by mods who have power over multiple subforums. User's cannot make their own subforum.
Each subreddit is managed by the creator of said subreddit and the appointed mods. Admins and site creator(s) don't interfere with reddit unless legally obligated to. Users can create whatever subreddit they please.
sorry dude, but reddit and fp aren't comparable. to my knowledge, fp hasn't let huge child porn subforums slip under the radar and cry about freedom of speech when they're forced to take them down
No fucking shit people of THAT subreddit will cry. You don't really expect them to come out and say "Yeah what we did was fucked up"?
Woops, never mind about the alexa numbers.
Number of active FP users: 38,800.
Number of active reddit users: 8,000,000.

/b/ has been moderated the fuck out of recently. And if you do see dead people/ porn the subjects are almost certainly over 18. Right now they seem to be going through a "racist jokes" stage again though last time I went on there to ruin somebody's internet history.
Jesus, Reddit is even worse when it comes to circlejerking than Facepunch.
someone made a really astute point when it came to the problem with reddit
the problem being, that the reddit algorithm rewards content that gets a lot of upvotes in a smaller amount of time, which basically inherently means the website will consist of low effort shit unless the subreddit is heavily moderated
Am I the only one who doesn't really care about creep shots?
Of course people frown on it cause its weird and this teacher should obviously be punished in some way, but make illegal? Really?
It's all done in public places and in essence its just taking a picture of someone albeit a little creepy. No one is getting hurt from it.
Which will result in the same scenario that followed those; the people spreading to other sites off the radar to further continue their agenda.
I honestly don't know why people want sites like these taken offline, you can keep an eye on people far more easily when they gather en masse on a single site than when they splinter onto a thousand different ones. If you're really against it you'll want those sites to remain functioning so people like this teacher can actually be found.
Shutting down these major gathering sites does absolutely nothing to prevent the ideal from continuing, it just makes people more sneaky about how they go about it. And generally speaking when people start going to the darker parts of the web to find these kind of gatherings, they're also going to expose themselves to more pronounced acts of the ideal if only because the site is hidden and thus attracts the more hardcore of people. This problem was showcased most prominently when 12chan shut down; I'd of thought people would learn by now.
do you honestly think these creepers will all get together and decide on a new secret location to fulfill their creepshots?
sure they might keep doing it, and they might look for somewhere to post it, but without a centralized place like reddit to post it on, they arent gonna get very far

If they somehow see themselves on the internet, it could hurt them emotionally.

dude it's like basic sexual harassment
The only good I can see out of allowing users to make these kinds of subreddits is that it probably allows government agencies to police them and spy.
Okay but they chose to dress that way for the sole reason of looking attractive/catching eyes. I know it isn't like that in every case and I know I'm partially blaming the victim but when you want attention but get attention from a person you don't like it's suddenly a crime.
Do I think taking pictures of hot girls is right; no I wouldn't do it myself but at least to me it appears overly harmless and akin to someone just staring at a hot girl. I guess once you start taking pics it escalates the creeper level a bit
Okay but they chose to dress that way for the sole reason of looking attractive/catching eyes.
lmao no
they do that because they think it looks good. it's not an invitation.
jeez jo is right, you are a creep
akin to someone just staring at a hot girl.
it's telling that you think this is acceptable
reddit
heh

This is an unwinnable arguement, I'd avoid it.
God damnit I'm not a creep.
I'm just mostly trying to counter the argument of " it should be illegal."
do I think it's right? No
Would I do it? No
Its sort from a d ifficult topic to address as a whole.Since it depends on the severity of the specific case

What? So when you see a particularly hot girl you don't crane your neck to catch a look at her? It's basic human attraction

Does anyone know how to turn off the constant "auto saved" for when your typing cause it lags the fuck out of my tablet and is a battle to post

I don't think girls go outside with the thought that they are going to be snapped a picture by a creepy nerd so it can be shown to more creepy nerds so they can wank over her. They go out so they can look good and feel good, but not to be harassed by some creepy nerd. How would you feel if someone took a picture of you (without your consent!) and have it uploaded to a website so everyone can wank over you?
I went to another school in Coweta County but since most subs work in the same county I wonder who it was. I bet it was the creepy motherfucker with the panda puppet.
Personally I wouldn't give a fuck, I'm not so self conscious to care about it. But I can see how some wouldn't want it to happen

it's easy to say you wouldn't give a fuck when it's not happening to you

you said stare
Funny how people judge the whole site based on a subreddit. It's as silly as judging FP based on Oify or GMF. Nice double standard. They have their /r/creepshots, we have our FB pictures among other threads. Stop acting like we're the pinnacle of morality.
I like how people still try to use this argument lol. Forums have moderators that can delete threads of a subforum. On Reddit, anyone can make a subreddit and become the moderator of it, and no one is obligated to monitor them or the subreddit except the creator.
US law states that photographing anything and anyone in public is legal. Publishing said pictures... that's where things get a little iffy legally.
In the case of this subreddit:
If the likenesses of the women in those pictures is used for commercial gain, then it's illegal without their permission. It's not (unless you count the small ad on the side in that subreddit, but that is a stretch).
Creepshots is not illegal. It never will be illegal. It's an issue of morality. The same goes for picsofdeadkids.
Avoid it if you morally object to it.
It's a shame to see reddit's name dragged through the mud again, but that's the price you pay for a heavily decentralized website that thrives solely on the input of its users.
More OT: The teacher is under the jurisdiction of the organization he works for. He got fired for breaking a blatantly obvious rule, but I highly doubt he'll be fined or jailed (if his contract doesn't mention fines).

you're a bad person if you view this from only your point of view
We lost the Reddit content versus what admins want war when they banned r/lolicon.
I don't really see the difference between this and www.peopleofwalmart.com and a lot of people don't seem to care about peopleofwalmart
Both are sources of pictures of candid photos of people. The only difference between them is one is for sexual gain and another is for social.

Good angle right there. I never would've thought of that.

I like how he doesn't seem to grasp the concept that the teacher wasn't arrested just because they were under 18

Yeah that's why I don't get how you could make it illegal.
Too much grey area of what's crossing the line and what isn't.
