No but it has to do with your great ancestors, there's a connection. I don't know why but to me that connection has a very powerful meaning to me. You're part of something that stretches across time, and your descendants will be too. It's the thought of that everything is not just about your life you live today. It gives comfort but also alerts you to care for future generations and what will happen to them. Like, you owe it to your ancestors and it wouldn't do them any justice if you didn't care about the future of your bloodline. But I guess it depends on how much of your family history is known to you.
Sod that, I'll racemix if I damn well please.
http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/11/04/21303956-thousands-of-russian-nationalist-marchers-raise-specter-of-anti-immigrant-violence?lite russia is getting (more) shittier by the day it seems.
This subject brings a lot of emotion it seems. However how can hordes of uneducated immigrants help a country? Unless this group wants to put all in one cathegory.
This subject brings a lot of emotion it seems. However how can hordes of uneducated immigrants help a country? Unless this group wants to put all in one cathegory.
I guess in a similar way to how hordes of uneducated newborn babies that were born in the country can help the country. When you educate people instead of just leaving them for dead, you can be surprised what they can do. Here in Australia we arguably have the opposite problem, we obsess over refugee asylum seekers (boat people, we call them) and unskilled migrants but the real issue seems to be with skilled migrants who can come here on 457 Visas. Companies can import skilled workers from overseas and pay them less than workers here. It's not an issue of unskilled migrants coming here and taking up air space (because seriously there's like what, a few hundred of them in a year?), it's an issue of skilled migrants being taken from their own countries where they could be doctors and such and instead coming here because of the opportunity of higher pay and welfare. The issue isn't the welfare provided, it's the fact that the countries they come from pay to train them up and then they just come here instead of improving the standards of living in their own countries.
Like, you owe it to your ancestors and it wouldn't do them any justice if you didn't care about the future of your bloodline.
I don't owe jack shit to some Scottish corpses, nor am I royalty so the idea of a bloodline is preposterous at best
But I guess it depends on how much of your family history is known to you.
I know plenty of my family history, but it's still got nothing to do with me in my life today. The knowledge that Alexander Huxford was a member of the first major wave of Scottish immigration to Nova Scotia does not inspire me to do anything, it's at most an interesting tidbit to be shared when a dinner discussion begins to falter. [editline]4th November 2013[/editline] "Do them justice" Hahah as far as my family knows they spent two hundred years burning houses and raping women along the English border before leaving the continent How awful of me to slight their honour
Sod that, I'll racemix if I damn well please.
I never said you couldn't. What I meant was that, the more aware you are of your ancestry, the more secure you will feel about yourself and who you are, and the more you will care about your future generations. At least that's how I feel about it.
I don't owe jack shit to some Scottish corpses, nor am I royalty so the idea of a bloodline is preposterous at best
Well alright. But I think you might change your mind when you've grown older. Maybe someday you will actually appreciate your ancestors.

They than migrated to Europe and than to the colonial US. They were than forced to Canada because of the revolutionary war. My loyalties are conflicted.
At least the Russians care about their society, culture, and people. People may go a little over board with the concept, but they have seen what the Western world has done to itself with mass immigration and failure to press for integration.
too bad russian society culture and people are awful. the western world is better in every single way. i enjoy my quality standards of living, civil liberties and protections thanks, society and culture can get fucked this is the 21st century
Well alright. But I think you might change your mind when you've grown older. Maybe someday you will actually appreciate your ancestors.
My ancestors used to own people in Russia.
National romanticism is beautiful though. It brought us great pieces of art, poems and novels like you mentioned.
It also got us millions dead and Godwin's Law on the books. Fuck blood and soil. No measure of art or other crap is worth the baggage. Edit:
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.
Not every country needs to sell out their homeland to immigrants.
Let us imagine I moved to Finland, learnt the language, Fennicized my name to Einar Markku, and then cut off links to Britain and raised my children as Finns. Would the children be proud that they had a British heritage, or would they enjoy Finland more? Which would they identify as? Would they be considered ethnic Finns? What about their grandchildren or great grandchildren?
Obviously you and your children and your children's children would be contributing to the downfall of Finnish culture.
Not every country needs to sell out their homeland to immigrants.
If your country cannot survive and assimilate immigrants* from nations of vastly different culture, than it doesn't deserve to survive. *There is a vast difference between immigrants and colonists in this context, so don't even pull it up.
Russia keeps being a shithole. Woop-de-doop, who would've guessed.
Not every country needs to sell out their homeland to immigrants.
when does it become someones homeland and when does someone stop being an immigrant?
Might just be me living away from big cities and whatnot, but aren't nationalists generally despised here? I mean, we've been a multinational country for a long time now
Might just be me living away from big cities and what not, but aren't nationalists generally despised here? I mean, we've been a multinational country for a long time now
See, that's the whole fucking trick. How does someone manage to be a "russian" nationalist when the entire country has been a mixed one almost since the founding of the thing? I have no clue. But well, I guess the Moscovians have an idea? It's not like people from Moscow even count us people from the "provinces" as people either.

A lot of racism and elitism comes from Moscow, it's quite terrifying to think that these people represent the whole country

My perspective is that humans have a tendency to organize into distinct groupings based on an affinity of birth. This is natural and I don't see anything wrong with it. But I've never advocated the use of violence or any kind of mistreatment against minorities or immigrants.
violence is the ideological fruit that your nationalism bears. live up to it [editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
Like, you owe it to your ancestors and it wouldn't do them any justice if you didn't care about the future of your bloodline.
not every culture has ancestor worship, you chauvinist [editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
Might just be me living away from big cities and whatnot, but aren't nationalists generally despised here? holy fuck the retard brigade is out in force in this thread nationalism is racism dressed up as patriotism.
im out to fart in your water supply. i hope all nationalists will suffer from the fumes exhumed by my egalitarian cul. viva la resistance
Makes sense. A lot of racism and elitism comes from Moscow, it's quite terrifying to think that these people represent the whole country
Damn place is just an overgrown village. Saint-Petersburg should still have retained the importance of the capital of the country. Then again, the anti-LGBT law has been mainly produced by a past mayor of Saint-Petersburg, so obviously no place is perfect.
Russia has had a long history of attempting genocide on the Chechens, deporting them to central Asia, and crushing rebellion there along with settling Russian ethnics there to consolidate control. It reached its peak under Stalin but it still went on after he died. Russia needs to acknowledge they have inherited the Soviet Unions past.
And what that has to do with what I said? Most people here acknowledge that Russian Federation inherited the Soviet past. What this has to do with "invasion" (because it's silly, Chechnya is part of Russia, how can you invade part of your own country?). BTW, Chechens have nothing to do with these marches, because most people don't consider them to be "immigrants". Idiotic activity like that only target the real immigrants, Uzbeks, Kazakhs etc. Middle class mostly doesn't support that stuff, mostly people who consider themselves "victims" of immigration, "lower" classes, and they have a point, but their efforts are misguided. It really is impossible for Russian to apply for a low-paid physical jobs, for example, road working, but that has little to do with immigrants - it's because of companies' "dumping" wages: they prefer to use immigrants as borderline slaves, which results in low-paid jobs to become almost "non-paid". This kind of condition immigrants have to live in spawns ethnic groups who often resort to violence and criminal activity - just to make a living. This kind of policy harms everyone, and those who can't comprehend that participate in these stupid marches, they find it easier on their minds to just think "well immigrants are bad people period". You can even say that these marches are indirectly organised by government to draw attention off from the bullshit they themselves endorse.
Well alright. But I think you might change your mind when you've grown older. Maybe someday you will actually appreciate your ancestors.
My grandpa was a genocidal SS officer. Should I be proud? Also you're basically just saying "hoho maybe one day you'll be as wise as me, kid" in a more polite way.
November 4th, 2013. The day that Sensationalist Headlines went full racist.
