Mojang Announces Date for Minecraft Movie: May 24, 2019

it will be a harrowing film about a lone man suddenly brought into existence forced to survive in the wilderness.
But will it have angry Russian kids?
I hope this is a spoof. If not the people planning this are way over their heads. I'm not saying it won't be successful, loads of kids will want to watch and buy their own copy, but even if there is a movie, I can't see the story being that great. I'm guessing it will be the success story over how Minecraft came about and how it became popular. To be honest, it wasn't exactly an amazing story though. Yeah, okay, some guy made a really simple game on his own and then banded with a few other people and made something that is amazingly popular and hyped up today, but even so, many other things have turned out that way. I mean, the base of the movie would be a guy thinking about how he can make some money with his skills in programming and then him eventually becoming successful. It is a story they have brought up loads of times. I guess they could through a few sad personal issues inbetween his success, but overall this has been done before. It is just going to be the same thing as The Facebook but rehashed towards a guy making a game revolved around fucking grass blocks. I already feel Minecraft has made way too much of an impact on internet and the gaming scene and has been over popularised. I can't really find the word to describe it. The fandom has grown to such a ridiculous extent that people are making erotic music videos on YouTube using the Minecraft style for fuck sake. There are probably 40 year olds whipping their cocks out everywhere to wank over a pixelated girl dancing on fucking diamond ore. Worst thing is, that Mojang are getting involved. But they aren't just getting money from it, they are fucking enjoying it themselves. They are getting into the fandom as well. I think it's going a bit too far.
Okay, maybe I am completely wrong and it won't be a success story, but even still it is just going to be some basic mediocre story line where instead of having "usually" normal looking characters building a "usually" normal house, it is just going to be blocks instead.
Oh good, 3 years when Minecraft will be somehow even more irrelevant than it is now.
Can't wait
im expecting the revenant with dicaprio waking up on a beach and being forced to survive in a retarded world
A movie released 10 years after a game's relevance? Where have I heard that being a success before..?
You know how they made the Lego movie and it wasn't awful? If they could do the same thing with Minecraft they'd be golden. Seems a tall order, though.
Lego is no way similar to minecraft. Lego has existed since 1982; everyone and their dog knows what lego is and has played with it before. Minecraft was made in 20xx; it's commonly known as the game that 12 year olds play and most adults don't really give a fuck about. Minecraft was made for people who are 6-16. Lego is made for 6-100.
The target audience for the lego movie was absolutely everyone. I saw the movie, the movie had some pretty adult themes in it. It wasn't a kids movie, It was a family movie.
I can't imagine the Minecraft movie being a family movie. It's going to contain a shitton of memes and shitty pop culture references like Angry Birds did.
The fact the Rob McElhenney(Mac from It's Always Sunny) is directing it is interesting. I just don't see him as the most kid-friendly director they could have gotten.
This is why I don't want to write it off straight away

I don't agree with this - due to the reason above. The movie could well end up being total shit, but there's a chance it won't be and I know the internet loves taking an overly negative stance on everything but Rob's very talented and could do something good with the material
I wonder how they'll go about rendering this movie.
I hope they somehow manage to make this technically impressive.
Limitation breeds creativity - the LEGO movie was great in this regard.
Angry Birds movie surprised us all. I doubt this will be any good but I'll wait and see.
Isn't angry birds only surprising because it had a message about Germany and Islam immigration?
Wonder what premise minecraft will have that's surprising
WE'RE GONNA BUILD A WALL AND THE CREEPERS ARE GONNA PAY FOR IT

That's bull and you know it. Just like anything else that it's become fashionable to hate because kids are fond of it, eh?

When has Notch ever stated this?
Lots of older people play Minecraft, because it's a very simple & enjoyable game.

Excuse my wording.
It wasn't specifically made for 6-16, but it ended up being a good game for 6-16 year olds to play.
There are probably better custom maps with a better story than this movie. Similar to the Telltale games. :v:

You should play with mods. Great fun in case you like complex machines or coding etc. definitely not just for 6-16.
how long until the movie boys jim and that other guy review this
also red letter media

Sure, but the players really define the audience themselves in a way.
I know that sounds odd, but if you play with friends at your age, the game will very much transform into a game for people of your age.

Minecraft Demographics according to: http://minecraft-seeds.net/blog/minecraft-player-demographics/
0-15: 20%
15-21: 43%
22-30: 21%
30+: 16%
Then ask yourself, what age demographic would likely see a minecraft movie, and who would hollywood target?
Kids, teens, and young adults (0-21): 63%
or
Adults: (22-100): 37%
Lego, on the other hand, has demographics ranging far and wide. Hell, adult lego collectors are referenced heavily in the movie.
You're going to see a PG movie filled with memes and pop culture references that the kids will drag their parents to see. I'm not 100% sure of that though, more like 75% sure. I would have to see the writers of the movie, a director who is normally part of adult oriented shows means nothing.
If only there was any date connected to those numbers.
In any case, in 2019 everyone included in that statistic will be at least 3 years older.
And a movie being aimed towards people from 15-21 seems like a good thing to me. Better than it being aimed towards 5 year olds.

But you just proved our point. According to the statistics you yourself just quoted, the "6-16" demographic that you claim Minecraft is most played by seems to make up only a fifth of the overall player base, which seems to be dominated far and wide by young adults. I'm pretty sure the ratios you're going to see with minecraft players and lego collectors are almost identical. Hell, I'd be very surprised if MORE small childen played with Minecraft than Lego.
Parents must hate their kids for making them go see this shit

I'm curious if those numbers are from a poll, or what, though. I can't bring myself to believe 43% of the players are 15-21
Because I remember when I was ~10 I would never put my actual age on anything. I always claimed to be 18+ in fear of being blocked or whatever
It'll cater to kids, because kids have to bring parents, instant double ticket revenue.
Well, exactly. The Lego movie catered to kids as well, it just had a little extra in the form of the odd clever reference so adults wouldn't be bored out of their skulls.
will rat boy genius make an appearance?
Hopefully we get a cameo from SuperMinecraftKid yelling about Minecraft being the first game ever.

It catered to families. Did you even see the movie?

the angry birds movie was actually pretty decent on its own. the immigration messages were just icing on the cake
I was surprised such a thing didn't happen sooner. And it's probably gonna reel in a ton of kids.
Oh yeah, it's gonna make fuckin' bank.
It catered to families. Did you even see the movie?
well i suppose if it caters to families it does still cater to kids too just not exclusively
not that i've seen it :v:
Like old Pixar films, it has underlying themes and messages that kids won't really notice but are still intrigued because of what they're seeing.
Incredible and Toy Story do it for instance. They both have some implications and themes that could've easily made an adult movie.
Take the scene where Buzz is strapped to a rocket and Woody is stuck under a milk crate in Sid's room. The dialogue feels like it came right out of a war buddy movie. "I should be the one strapped to that rocket". A child doesn't really pick up on the implication of it. They'll just see "Haha toys are talking". In the incredibles we see that Syndrome killed dozens of superheroes out of jealousy. He later tries to kidnap the Incredible's baby to twist in his image, before getting shredded by a plane propeller.
By the end of the Lego movie we find out that [sp]the evil businessman Lego is actually the dad of the kid who's playing with the Legos, we are seeing a child play the whole movie, a representation of his imagination. The dad has this huge collection he glues in place and keeps in his basement. The kid keeps trying to play with them, isn't interested in following the instructions but just playing and being creative. The kid gets scolded by his dad when he gets home from work. It's been awhile so I forget why (I think the dad starts looking at the things he built and sees himself as a kid) so he starts giving it a chance and plays with his child again. It touches on the very real feeling people have experienced growing up and collecting a toy and not having your parents understand. The dad has this life and decides to be the change in cycle. A kid hasn't grown up, they likely won't grasp the full picture of that[/sp]
Also the people who made clone high made Lego movie. There's even a couple references.
Basically there is a difference between family films and straight up kids garbage.
