Dori is playing down misogyny from hatred towards women to 'negative attitudes' and claiming that sexism and misogyny are the very same thing. I disagree, misogyny is very much worse than sexism.
how am i not surprised that an argument with mobrockers has come down to desperate semantics
what, in your twisted and delusional mind, is the difference between sexist anti-female attitudes and misogyny?
IF A MAN STARTS A NEW GEEKY HOBBY LIKE GAMING, BUT ISN'T QUITE VERSED IN IT YET, HE'S A WELCOME CONVERT TO THE CAUSE, A NEWBIE COMING INTO THE LIGHT SOON TO BE WELL ACQUAINTED WITH OUR WAYS, ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US
But if it's a disgusting FEEEEEEEEEEEEMALE, especially one I find attractive, she's obviously just trying to impress me with her fake geekiness. Gosh, I can't believe you don't know as much about this stuff as I do. You know I can tell you're really not into gaming, I KNOW you're just doing it for attention because you're FEEEEEMALE.
And in about five hours we'll have our daily, "WHY AREN'T THERE ANY FEEEEEEMALES WHO ARE INTO COOL STUFF LIKE I AM? WHERE CAN I FIND INTELLIGENT, ATTRACTIVE WOMEN WHO SHARE MY INTERESTS?" whine.
Don't know what world you're from but i've never experienced such a scenario. Strawman yay!
Oh good, Max has joined the shitshow. This can only lead to good things. :v:
thank you for your insightful observation, your contribution to the thread has been noted and is much appreciated (just kidding these stupid sideline observational posts suck stop making them)
i have a weird feeling that if someone posted the exact same stuff doriol does under an entirely different account, perhaps with different syntax, people wouldn't give him shit at all
When so many people disagree with my definition of misogyny I can only assume I have to rethink my position. Sorry.
My few was that it's sexism when you do it because you don't like/hate a characteristic of a person, or a person did, and that it's misogyny when you do it because you hate/don't like this about all women.
Don't know what world you're from but i've never experienced such a scenario. Strawman yay!
on what grounds is this a strawman and do you fully know what a 'strawman' fallacy is
You know what I think?
I think the whole world has a stick up its ass.
Some day, you wont be able to say a single negative think about someone without them calling you worse than Hitler.
you know what i think? people who try to downplay legitimate social disadvantages and discrimination while sitting on a pedestal completely unaffected by it should stop pretending their opinion has any weight or relevance in the matter.
how am i not surprised that an argument with mobrockers has come down to desperate semantics

The difference, in my mind, is the scale of the view/attitude.
on what grounds is this a strawman and do you fully know what a 'strawman' fallacy is
He was using a hugely exaggerated and fictional anecdote to support an argument, yes
The difference, in my mind, is the scale of the view/attitude.
yo dude the best thing to do in this situation is take a break. go meditate on your position for a few days. you've already apologized and said you need to rethink things, no need to defend yourself further
When so many people disagree with my definition of misogyny I can only assume I have to rethink my position. Sorry.
It's more the fact that you were using a deliberately limited definition that wasn't meant to describe the entire topic of meaning behind it.
It's like when people argue something isn't ~racist~ because it doesn't involve a 'race'. Even though 'races' don't even exist in the first place. Ultimately creating a flawed circular argument over semantics.
All because they hide behind something deliberately limiting. It's frustrating for those who wish to have a serious discussion over the subject.
Btw, the big problem with having debates on gender politics on this forum is that we rarely have any women here. And because of that our arguments nearly entirely consist of men trying to speak on behalf of women thinking they know everything about what they think and experience in their lives. It's really not ideal at all, because a lot of males here overcompensate for speaking on behalf of women and perhaps exaggerate a bit
yes clearly we're "overcompensating" because we're not waving big red flags that say "i hate women". its my true dream to become a woman some day by defending feminism on the internet long enough
Damn it people, stop changing your avatars.
I almost didn't recognise some of you.
He was using a hugely exaggerated and fictional anecdote to support an argument, yes
and how? can you please explain your position on this?
yes clearly we're "overcompensating" because we're not waving big red flags that say "i hate women". its my true dream to become a woman some day by defending feminism on the internet long enough
I'm a level 27 white night. at level 30 I can begin the quest to grow a fallopian tube. in a matter of months I will be a full-fledged woman
The difference, in my mind, is the scale of the view/attitude.
are you going to give me an answer that makes sense and could be possibly construed as a coherent thought or just poetic one liners that don't really mean anything?
yes clearly we're "overcompensating" because we're not waving big red flags that say "i hate women". its my true dream to become a woman some day by defending feminism on the internet long enough
Heil die übervagina.
are you going to give me an answer that makes sense and could be possibly construed as a coherent thought or just poetic one liners that don't really mean anything?
Sexism: personal, one woman
Misogyny: women in general
Or at least that's what I thought.
Sexism: personal, one woman

and still by using this set of (flawed) definitions, you can't see how calling a woman a fat cow is misogynistic
and still by using this set of (flawed) definitions, you can't see how calling a woman a fat cow isn't misogynistic
A woman is just one, not all women. Understand my train of thoughts now?
A woman is just one, not all women. Understand my train of thoughts now?
yoyoyoyoyoyyo dude discrimination towards someone harbors discrimination
I definitely do not want to join the discussion but I just wanted to comment on that:
"IF A MAN STARTS A NEW GEEKY HOBBY LIKE GAMING, BUT ISN'T QUITE VERSED IN IT YET, HE'S A WELCOME CONVERT TO THE CAUSE, A NEWBIE COMING INTO THE LIGHT SOON TO BE WELL ACQUAINTED WITH OUR WAYS, ONE OF US, ONE OF US, ONE OF US"
I don't know which games you play online, but the most common attitude I've come across over a variety of games is: "fuckin nap, l2p noob."
Sexism: personal, one woman
Misogyny: women in general

this is the dumbest shit i've ever read honestly dude
Sexism, also known as gender discrimination or sex discrimination, is defined as prejudice or discrimination based on sex or gender; or conditions or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex
surprisingly, the definition isn't "being mean to a girl", it's discrimination and prejudice based on sex or gender. generally discrimination and prejudice isn't limited to one person. let that sink in, its probably a bit of an alien concept i know but consider for a moment that your convoluted definition of sexism that you pulled out of thin air is wrong.
Misogyny is the hatred of women or girls.
pretty straightforward, where is the disconnect here?
and how? can you please explain your position on this?
my position is that I would treat a girl getting into gaming the same way as I would treat a guy getting into gaming.
A woman is just one, not all women. Understand my train of thoughts now?
hey dude if you call a woman a fat cow it's probably a sign that you're a misogynist. even if you think you're not a misogynist, you're still reinforcing misogyny
A woman is just one, not all women. Understand my train of thoughts now?
i understand your train of thoughts in the way that a psychiatrist might somewhat understand the train of thought of someone with severe dementia. i can tell what is going on but have no fucking clue WHY

Are you incapable of reading or you do have to be an ass all the time? I already stated multiple times that I now see that my definition is false.
hey dude if you call a woman a fat cow it's probably a sign that you're a misogynist. even if you think you're not a misogynist, you're still reinforcing misogyny
I'm going to have to disagree with this
some people may use misogynistic slurs for their shock value in poor judgement, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're a misogynist.
my position is that I would treat a girl getting into gaming the same way as I would treat a guy getting into gaming.
that doesn't really matter? max's point was that in the gaming community there is a large anti-female bias in which women are discriminated against because they don't generally "fit" into the gaming community. whether or not you as an individual agree with this bias doesn't matter, the fact is that it exists and is an example (albeit a very specific and small example) of gender discrimination against females

Are you always a misogynist even if you call a woman a fat cow once.
