Yeah, god forbid an American pay hundreds of poor starving chinese to work in his factory. God forbid he put them in so good a situation that they have to have barbed fences to protect the factory from the other people who want to work just the same as the ones already employed.
Labor in China isn't going to change soon. Simply refusing to outsource jobs there is thus a bad idea... it makes more and more Chinese workers become jobless and poorer and starving

Hey I'm just putting perspective on this, I'm not trying to say it's a bad thing, simply pointing out how it could be used. And I've seen that along with everyone else here you don't have to whip it out.
"We went to China to buy a factory there..."
And that's the end of that. The whole point of that story wasn't to show off the purchase of a new factory.
The whole 95% thing is fairly inaccurate, but not completely damning. I'd say you are probably 50% of the way there more than 95.
The part that kills me is that he openly admits they were buying a factory with terrible fucking conditions and paying the workers crap for money. How do you use this as a story, even in front of wealthy folks?

95% of people say "95%" to make a point, not as an actual, factual statistic.
i don't get what that even means honestly
i like that he admitted to outsourcing jobs to slave labor in china in the middle of him campaigning to create jobs for americans though
Whats the remaining 5%?
Also being born wealthy

Not that one could effectively produce a factual statistic in this situation.
He is, however, effectively trivializing the huge amount of work people put into crappy jobs in the US. Working several jobs at once and still being unable to pay the bills. He is disconnected with reality and it shows.
Okay, He was talking about some Chinese factory his friend and him were looking around at. I don't get it.

Manufacturing in the US won't ever grow that large because its always 10x as expensive. I believe the saying is if you wan't to go out of business manufacture in the West.
Romney has a point: the opportunities in the US compared to most countries is amazing. Sure, there's still a bunch of people with absolutely shit or no jobs in the US, but I can think of third world countries where people would kill for those jobs.

Interesting video, but it's a false dichotomy, implying it's either sweatshops or even worse employment. Bullshit. The employers are perfectly capable of improving conditions & salary in both.

Sweatshops are better than the alternatives, sure; but that doesn't mean you should defend them!

For small stuff anyway. America's auto industry still thrives, however, and most of it has a Honda, Nissan or Toyota badge on the nose. Hell, Nissan outsourcing manufacturing to America is part of what keeps my lights on. A good chunk of what comes out of these plants is earmarked for Japan as well, not every car produced in America stays in America. Germany does it too, I believe Volkswagen has a few plants in America that ship back to the homeland, and I know BMW makes some of their stuff in a plant in the Carolinas. Wouldn't be surprised if Audi does the same as well.
I suppose China could tool up to meet the automotive demand, but there's something to be said for western build quality. If there's one thing we can still build right in this country it's cars.
