Umm.. How about we just have regular unmodified water? You know, the natural kind? Filtered is okay but we shouldn't be adding chemicals to tap water, especially since people are paying for it. Just because it 'may' be good for you doesn't mean that it should be added to water supplies. I'm more concerned about fluoride and other additives, lithium is fairly natural so I doubt it would have too much of an impact.
fluoride is a great additive for tap water
Doesn't lithium, you know explode in water?
In its pure form. You just have to add in some halogens to ionize the lithium.
gold standard?
it's only a standard for bi polar, and even then it's a pretty shitty one with many more negative side effects than positives
Then you can safely assume no spontaneous combustion will occur.
BROKE MY AUTOMERGE :argh:
lithium is a pretty bad psychiatric drug
It may also reduce the amount of homosexuals
oh and it's natural etc etc ( lithium that is, not homosexuals )
Mr. Cameron why were you not at our prearranged meeting in the mens' room at Heathrow
I waited for you babe
Lithium exists naturally in spring water, we've evolved to rely on it. The lack of lithium in tap water could very well be one of the reasons for why depression-rates and mental disorders such as alzenheimers and schizophrenia have gone through the roof during the past hundred years. The government putting lithium in the water is not an evil plot, it's not some drug that makes you docile, it's an important mineral we need, just like vitamins and whatnot. They're simply re-adding this mineral to better mimic natural spring water and mineral water.
Natural levels fluctuate, to say that we evolved on a specific amount is wrong
I'm sure there are regions of the world where the ground water has next to none

"Mindtwistah" claims that natural water contains small traces of lithium so the treatments we apply to water to cleanse it of contaminants may have stripped it of valuable minerals/chemicals like lithium.
fluoride is a great additive for tap water
That doesn't mean that we should be adding it to the only source of water that some people have access to. You probably know how well the governments are at choosing what's good for it's people.
I don't know.. It doesn't feel right. I don't like people making decisions like this for me. It should be MY decision.
I don't think it should be added to the water.
Would be a better idea to add it to vitamin pills of some sort.

All the shit added to water is supposed to make it safe and healthier than drinking out of virus laden swamp bog
Maybe they should throw in a little THC while they are at it.
It's not hard to treat water without pumping it full of chemicals.
My outdoor/hiking filter can turn any back-country water-source into water so clean it will actually taste better than tap water. And it doesn't add a single drop of any chemicals to the water.
Just because it tastes better (which is from the minerals left behind by your filter) doesn't mean it's cleaner. Substrate filters only manage to catch medium to large water borne organisms, and work poorly when tasked with 40,000 gallons of water a day. Which is why drinking water goes through disinfection, ozonation, and UV irradiation along with substrate. Also, most likely, you have built up an immunity against most waterborne bacteria.
All the shit added to water is supposed to make it safe and healthier than drinking out of virus laden swamp bog
That's why you filter it. You don't need to add anything to water to clean it. The inclusion of different chemicals in water should be my own personal decision to make. I don't need the government deciding whether or not it's healthy for me to drink fluoride and lithium in my water. Last time I checked governments are terrible at deciding what's good for the people anyways (Marijuana, cigarettes, alcohol, etc...) Even today people are still having problems due to tap water containing chemicals like fluoride.
Why cant they just leave water alone?
All it seems to do is spark up conspiracies.
All the shit added to water is supposed to make it safe and healthier than drinking out of virus laden swamp bog
except it dont come from virus laden swamp bog unless people is desperate to has water of drink
since persons in most area drill deep into ground to find clean groundwater from natural aquifer.
is true we have water of purify, but water from florida area mostly come from groundwater of floridian aquifer and spring of floridian aquifer
we also have non-chemical method, called filter of brita
use google of internet to further be learn
Fluoride I'm okay with but I don't exactly like the idea of mood-altering additives to drinking water.
fuck yea lithium

this is kind of an amusing prospect, i mean just imagine how much explaining will have to go into actually explaining this

do you really think the people behind marijuana being illegal are the same people who are deciding to put fluoride in water
the people who make these decisions are experts in their field, government employment and contracts have jack shit to do with that
Even today people are still having problems due to tap water containing chemicals like fluoride.
And what problems does fluoride cause

and that's about it
I wish you guys actually had depression or knew what depression was before you came to conclusions like "personality changing" or "mood-altering", I used to think about it like that until I had to go through it and several people close to me.
This is being used to help prevent and treat mental issues and depression. It's not going to "change" your personality or some bullshit.

i already have enough depression thank you very much

I'm surprised nobody said this sooner.

I am depressed and it'll be a cold day in hell before I'll say the government has the right to force medication on me
Sunlight triggers the release of various chemicals and it's been proven to be beneficial to get a healthy amount of sunlight in the long run.
Buildings are being designed now with larger windows and more open spaces to accommodate for the sunlight that technology has taken away from us over the years.
This doesn't mean that architects are trying to alter the personalities of people, they are simply trying to balance out necessary positive forces on our lives that they once took away.
It's the same thing with lithium in drinking water.
[editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
Also we already add plenty to our water like phosphorous which is necessary to human growth.
drugs are bad kids mkay
My only ill-informed concern is that an anti-psychotic in the water could make my oh so cherished illegal drugs ineffective.
If this goes ahead and you're all so worried about it then fucking boil your water, condense the water vapour and drink pure H2O.
It's probably of no worry in small concentrations and won't really do much to effect your perception on the world. I mean, would you complain if everyone was suffering from lowered appetite and they started putting zinc in the water to counteract that? Or would you see that as 'messing with our minds' and refuse to drink it?
