This thread is fucking disgusting. 12 people lose their lives in a horrible tragedy and you people come in here waving your patriotic dicks, looking for something to blame and arguing about who's government's policy works best.
You should all be ashamed. A lot of people had their lives taken away yesterday and many others had theirs destroyed. Think about the micro picture, not the macro for a change, you autistic morons.
Don't be daft - few of us known anyone who was even indirectly involved so of course we're not going to be serious. It's a terrible thing that's happened, but I don't know anyone who's been affected by this so I honestly am not emotionally affected.
Don't try and make us feel guilty and sad for something we don't feel guilty and sad about.
Someone commented on the first page that their friend's uncle died or something, so it's not quite so alien at all.
I'm not saying you should be at home crying for the loss of others who have no connection to you, but there is a point at which I think you should simply be respectful and not use a situation like this to bring up an age-old and never-ending argument.

I do agree that a modicum of respect is called for (someone going "I HAVE AN ERECTION FROM THE THOUGHT OF BULLETS GOING THROUGH HIS TWINS HEAD" would be too far, for example) but the internet runs on a lack of respect. Look at Super Columbine RPG.
This is what happens when you make people (relatively) anonymous - they show their true colours, and most people's true colours just aren't that respectful.
This is terrible I hope there is a total ban on guns in the UK.
I find it interesting how a person for gun control will claim they got their own gun legally, however anyone who does something wrong did not.
Most criminals would rather not be tracked.
It's a fact that in the U.S., 70% of all apprehended criminals involved in a homicide committed with a firearm, acquired it illegally.

Then again 30% of them acquired them legally, that is still a huge amount.
I really can't believe this... the media are acting as retarded as the American media. Covering the story on a national scale, exactly what not to do with mass shooting events.
Ffs. Channel 4 and SKY can both blow me.
Great. Another review of firearms law is coming up. I predict an outcry from the "Hip, new, young" conservative government. Knee jerk reaction.

I'll quote Brass Eye to show your lies and propaganda.

Cameron did something good. He said there won't be a kneejerk reaction.

Your argument is flawed. UK is rising while US is dropping. South Africa also has extremely strict gun laws. And it's number 1.

I actually gained a little respect for him when I heard it on the news earlier.

Yes, and I stand by what I said. Our population is much larger than that of the UK, and despite their gun laws crime continues to rise. Our laws are met with a decline in violent crime. Besides, what is that figure of, national gun crime? It conveniently leaves out every other time of violent crime out there, such as muggings with knives and not guns, home invasions with a weapon besides a gun, etc. Basically, fewer guns means lower gun crime but an overall jump in overall crime. Considering gun crime =/= murder, it's not really worth it to leave a population of law-abiders unarmed in the face of growing crime.

An increase of one incident is not a large increase.

Who needs guns?
Violent crime in the UK is going down.

umm i live here and so does hezzy, dav0r etc.
My dad knows about 7 people that could sell him guns or bullets or other weapon accessories. It's not hard to get guns in the UK.

your dad is talking out of his arse, or just a fucking idiot if he needs to boast to his child that he can get illegal guns. big fuckin' wow. so can half the country.
The laws in the UK work, end of. This was a remote situation which happened in Cumbria, that's why it hits major news and the media has a shitstorm about it. You cannot apple your American laws and principles for guns to a country which has completely different laws and principles for guns, it's just absurd.

He had a legit license though.
This sucks, my condolences to the families.
well from listening to the news it says that he may of been holding a sniper rifle not a shotgun but either way i would prefer if people would just keep this law argument down to a minimal

He had a .22 rifle and a shotgun. Both legal.
Poor people :frown:
Personally I think only a small niche of society really need to own guns. Farmers who need to go out shooting birds or what have you, the armed forces and the police (the latter of which both usually keep their weapons at the barracks/station anyway). Anyone who enjoys going hunting or suchlike has to do so on a hunting estate or similar environment. There isn't any wild hunting in national parks etc. Because of this, I see no reason why people who own guns for hunting purposes (other then farmers who need to use them on their own land) to have to have their weapons at home. They could all be kept under lock and key at some kind of collective armory at each of these hunting estates, and it would then be the responsibility of the estate managers to ensure all weapons are accounted for. This would help to reduce the chances of people 'going rogue' like this guy did, and could help the police isolate these types of situations a lot quicker. Granted there are always going to be guns on the black market, but I guess this would just be a way of making legally owned guns more secure from nutters like this. And I can't see it affecting anyone's livelihoods.
I'm sure you will all find some holes in this idea, but its just what I'd prefer I guess.
(I mean for this idea to be introduced in the UK, not US. I consider the US to have no options anymore when it comes to gun culture. They have them and they're stuck with it.)

The US population is about 5x that of the UK. Still too large a gap to blame it on that...and also, how can you say we're rising in crime when it's at 14 - any rise at all to that figure surely can be considered irrelevant?
I see the thread title, so I open it up. Already someone's bitching about the fact that the US isn't involved.
