Americans should be asking: Why is the US paying 22% of the UN's budget when it only makes up 4% of it? America should be getting paid for hosting the UN and being its biggest enforcer. The UN's power, which is already very little, would be nothing without the US. The UN can't even get anything done. Just take a look at Africa too see how poorly the UN performs. It's always up to the US to send in their own military to take care of other people's problems. And western countries, both in Europe and North America, have to deal with all the refugees (with their own money) because the UN can't even take care of them. Nation states are relying more on themselves when it has become clear that these big organizations can't/won't take care of them. The UN and the EU are examples of big organizations that are failing us, and they are doing so big league. You can count on more nations to want to exit big organizations if they don't get their shit together. On top of that being a member of the UN and a permanent member of the UN security council is hugely beneficial for the US.

And China only has about 4x the population of the US, not 5x.
