Reddit CEO: "We stand for free speech... we are not going to ban distasteful subreddits."
I think this attitude the people who run Reddit have is going to get them arrested one day somehow. I can smell it a mile off.
Only if they outright break the law, and in a big way. Sadly (and this goes for WAY more than Reddit, i.e. paparazzi), invading the privacy of others is legal.
law is an arbitrary moral compass
simply because pedophelia is illegal doesn't suddenly make shit like creepshots any less immoral
Uhh, being a pedophile isn't illegal, sexually abusing children is. A big difference.
"We stand for free speech and won't ban anything!"
"What, some other site is criticizing us? Let's ban all the content from that site and the users posting it!"
Preserving free speech, eh Reddit?
That's the doing of admins of individual subreddits, and has nothing to do with the main site admins. You can still post Gawker links to Reddit.

reddit blocked the Adrien Chen article site wide
a few days later they claimed it was a "mistake"

No law is not a subjective moral compass. Law is an objective code which may be softened by a subjective moral compass. Big difference.
On top of that, that strong and hard line between illegal and immoral exists for a reason.
lol GJ reddit, now the general media is gonna paint you as 4chan 2.0 Electric Boogaloo.
Also lmao at the fact that as long as it's legal, it's AWWRIGHT!!
Because who wants a common sense of decency and proper behavior anyway? :v:
freedom of creep
Too bad most of you only see the shitty dark corners of reddit instead of actually good and interesting subreddits. Personally I was never bothered by the creepy ones as I had no reason to visit them and if even if they were there, fine, each to his own, I don't give a shit.
People seem to think that there is a specific group of moderators that manage the whole reddit. Anyone can start a new subreddit, thus becoming a moderator. There's nothing stopping them from posting illegal shit unless someone actually reports it, get that in your head.
Now that r/creepshots is banned, good, we should continue to cause uproar to get shit like that out of reddit.

I think the problem is more that the administration generally doesn't take any action unless there is an utterly massive outcry against them, such as what we're seeing here.

The problem isn't that it's morally bad, it's that reddit are being bullshit hypocrites and changing their policies faster than Mitt Romney flip flops.
At first they're 'NO SEXUALIZATION OF CHILDREN' which is fine. They own the site, free speech is fucking bullshit in a private environment. Even though they did ban r/lolicon which was just images, it's their fucking site.
Then they're 'we stand for free speech' when they ban gawker shit because of one incident.
Then they go 'WE AIN'T GONNA BAN DISTATEFUL SUBREDDITS'. So which is it? Are you or are you not banning shit that personally upsets you, reddit?
I don't see a problem with it, if it's not illegal there's no reason to remove it other than it being "offensive", and frankly that's a piss-poor reason to delete anything.
Of course, Reddit sucks insane amounts of dick so I couldn't give a shit either way.
Reddit defends it's legal right to be creepy and disgusting
Tell that to the Gawker article that was ban.
Except it was banned from a subreddit by a moderator, nothing to do with the rest of the site.
Maybe
This time I want royalties
Except it was banned from a subreddit by a moderator, nothing to do with the rest of the site.
It was also banned site-wide for a short time.
The administrators must've been feelin' the heat.

congratulations this argument has no relevancy
I was simply stating that legal does not imply it should be allowed, and even then the legality of creepshots is a very, very gray area to begin with.

It MIGHT just be me, but isn't a fair lot of those photo's taken like their focus is on the cleavage or the ass?
Seems like a covert version of creepshots
Uhh, being a pedophile isn't illegal, sexually abusing children is. A big difference.
it's an irrelevant difference that's nothing more than a technicality
the point being the idea behind "it's not illegal therefore it shouldn't be banned" is fucking ridiculous because creepshots and jailbait is still entirely harmful to the unwilling parties involved.

Creepshots can very well be against the law (eg: in a classroom which is not a public place, therefore you need consent of the owner of the building or the person in the picture), on the streets, not so much, but it can be seen as harassment.

I'd hardly call it covert...

last I seen most were well within legal limits for photography, but it's still sexual harassment to some degree and violates the privacy of the subject, and while it's not illegal, they also reduce them to an object of sexual desire.
my problem stems from the fact that by not banning subreddits like creepshots, they send a message that (extreme, privacy-invading) sexual deviance is A-OK when really, they're not.
Didn't the owner of Imgur (A redditor) block Imgur for facepunch because alot of porn was hosted on it from Hot girls thread in fast threads while the whole /r/gonewild and shit was hosted on imgur?

Yeah apparently he thought we were a porn site, I dunno about you but I don't think I'd ever venture to a porn site by the name of Facepunch.
don't think I'd ever venture to a porn site by the name of Facepunch.
(masochism joke here)
imgur doesn't block subreddits because it was made specifically for reddit (but not only)
quick everybody start labelling all of reddit

aka "im retarded and i see absolutely nothing wrong with the ceo of reddit defending creep cesspool subreddit's so i'm gonna go ahead and jab at something completely unrelated right out of the box"

It was the hotlinking that pissed Imgur off. Reddit uses its own thumbnail hosting, then links to the images. People here on FP were just hotlinking everything.
