stealing soda from a super-market won't get you a criminal record
I was generalizing.
Dude you can rate disagree all you want I've actually handled this research before.
That's really great and all but I didn't post so I could start an argument with a brick wall. Arguments on Facepunch don't end, I'll end up refuting the same point a few dozen times before I eventually fall asleep and end up tired as fuck tomorrow when I wake up for work because you didn't want to be wrong. Arguments on Facepunch are a test of endurance, not wit nor charisma nor intelligence. My endurance for stupidity is terrible [editline]28th April 2012[/editline]
So i'm boring because i don't want to be stuck working for minimum wage (next to you) because i have a criminal record for stealing a few dollars worth of goods? i have to commit crimes to be considered "not boring" in your books? OKAY! well i did triple the speed limit on the i5 the other day, happy? petty crimes do not make you cool. get over yourself.
triple the limit? that's enough to get your license revoked twice
Who cares? I've stolen shit before, never get caught but I guarantee I'd only get a "Hey stop that!" and be removed from the place. Wasting the time of cops for something as small as that is silly.
The funny thing is, that's what my bro said. And then dad got a call from the police saying come to pick up your son.
Ugh. Florida. I hate living within your boundaries. Is it worth it, really? One dollar theft, yet thousands of dollars spent to keep him in prison.
A serial petty thief? Really? This is Florida though, so I'm not surprised at the sentence.
It's not just Florida, it's how laws work in counties. Collier is known for this type of shit, and if you were a Floridian, you would know how Florida has many terrible counties. I can name a few, Collier, Dade, Broward, and there are more. [editline]28th April 2012[/editline]
Ugh. Florida. I hate living within your boundaries. Is it worth it, really? Seriously people blame the fucking state for something they can't control. HE HAS A HISTORY OF PETTY THEFT, he is TAUNTING the law. That's like flashing your cash to a mugger. It makes you think you're badass, but in the end you get beat up for it.
up to five years and a $5k fine he's a repeat offender. I don't really see anything outrageous about this
Depends on what his record looks like, but it's still ludicrous to charge someone with a felony for filling their cup with soda instead of water. Who the fuck hasn't done that in their lifetimes? Although the part about him refusing to leave and all means he was just asking for trouble.
He isn't facing execution, he is facing five years along with a $5,000 fine.
Steal 1$ worth of soda, go to prison for 5 years along with a 5.000$ fine. That is the most retarded thing ever. He'll be surounded by murderers and shit and his story is that he stole a 1$ soda.
Steal 1$ worth of soda, go to prison for 5 years along with a 5.000$ fine. That is the most retarded thing ever. He'll be surounded by murderers and shit and his story is that he stole a 1$ soda.
No He isn't going to prison just for stealing a $1 soda. It says right in the article why he is going to prison. They told him to pay for the soda, he refused and cursed out the manager, the manager told him to leave and he then refused to leave the private property (trespass). It would have only been a misdemeanor, but he has a criminal history, so he is being charged with a felony:
Texas, Washington, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, North Dakota, Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, and Arizona have also enacted Three Strikes laws for habitual offenders, making petty larceny a felony if there have been prior convictions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felony_petty_theft I'll also just quote the important parts of the article again so hopefully people can have a deeper understanding of this case than the thread title
The manager confronted Abaire and asked him to pay for the $1 soda. Abaire apparently refused. He then reportedly cursed at the manager and refused to leave when asked to do so, according to the Naples News, which reviewed the arrest report. Abaire, who is unemployed, has a history of minor petty theft convictions. That history led law enforcement officers to ratchet the case up from a misdemeanor to a felony. And in tough-on-crime Florida, this category of felonies carries a prison sentence of up to five years along with a $5,000 fine. The suspect faces additional charges of trespassing and disorderly intoxication.
This is not as simple as "omg someone stole a soda and they're going to prison for 5 years fukin pigs man!!" .. if you read the article you'll see that the punishment is completely reasonable for what he did and his criminal history.
im glad this scum will be kept off of our streets for 5 years
So i'm boring because i don't want to be stuck working for minimum wage (next to you) because i have a criminal record for stealing a few dollars worth of goods? i have to commit crimes to be considered "not boring" in your books? OKAY! well i did triple the speed limit on the i5 the other day, happy? petty crimes do not make you cool. get over yourself.
rofl, I was never trying to look like a badass, and stealing a few candy bars as a kid, which was like, 4 years ago wouldn't do shit to me, I could probably even say as a joke that I did that and they wouldn't care because if you do then you're dumb. Besides, my dad has done far worse shit than I have and has a well paying job. So have TONS and TONS of Americans too, and they're in great jobs. if anything the only person trying to look badass is you by white knighting as if you're a saint.
I was generalizing.
confirmed as dumb
The funny thing is, that's what my bro said. And then dad got a call from the police saying come to pick up your son.
Some people would call the cops, and I live in the suburbs where nothing happens anyways.
Steal 1$ worth of soda, go to prison for 5 years along with a 5.000$ fine.
Abaire, who is unemployed,
I wonder if he did it on purpose just to get like free board and stuff.
This isn't an isolated incident, he has a history of minor theft.
I stole a pack of gum or two when I was like 6 I felt so hardcore

It's not like I'm educated in the subject or anything, it's because you're too cool for school.
Holy shit I wish soda was that cheap over here :v:
