Some of the arguments from the 'no' campaign were absolutely shit, lol. Many of them were saying, 'well what are the kids going to say instead of mother and father, father and father?' No. That little 'problem' can literally be solved by saying 'my two fathers'. Or father and father if you wish. I think it's more about shaming children of same-sex parents more than anything else.

There is no legitimate reason to restrict basic marriage rights from people. Literally every single "argument" from No voters could be summed up as "I don't like gay people." Some of them dressed it up in fancy language and flimsy logic like "I'm voting no to protest mandatory voting!" or "I voted no because we already have civil unions!" But at the end of the day, that's bullshit justification for bigotry.
If the reason "Gay people are human beings who deserve the same rights as everyone else" is not a good enough reason for you to vote yes, you're a dickhead.
Yeah the No Campaign shit was really gross. It was posters that basically just said 'Think of the Children!', I don't understand how that level of bullshit is even legal? It's literally just a bunch of made up shit. Anyway I'm so glad Yes won, but I wish it was higher than 61%. A win's a win but 39% no is still huge, and messed up that so many people are bigoted and selfish whether they realise it or not. Melbourne was 83.7% yes, that's dope.
Our anti gay campaign was also borderline illegal "thonk of the children" shit, they even lectured to children outside of schools. Except it actually worked with a 60+ percent no vote. At least it passed a year later (with convoluted as always parlamentary votes) but sadly without adoption rights.
You guys are forgetting the best No Campaign. The one where a Canadian said that since Gay Marriage was introduced in his country, the School has been teaching MAGIC. I'd find the source but I can't.
A great resolution for Australia. Finally the Gay Kingdom can sign a peace treaty with them.
I didn't
why are you posting that like you're proud of it
why are you posting that like you're proud of it
If that's your interpretation than so be it
How about, instead of perpetuating the dumb 'us versus them' mentality, you take a moment to read up about how conservatives responded to the outcome, and realise that virtually all of them are accepting the vote?
In all honesty I don't think he meant it in that way, being an American and all. Most western Conservatives are a magnitude better than the Republicans.
Here's an interactive map showing the breakdown of the vote by electorate: https://interactive.guim.co.uk/testing/2017/11/aus-ssm-voting-outcome/embed/embed.html QLD and Western Sydney proving themselves once again to be redneck country, no surprises there
Except the huge area of regional QLD is a very small amount of people. [editline]19th November 2017[/editline]
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-15/same-sex-marriage-australia-says-yes-to-ssm/9150344 http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-15/wa-politicians-to-ignore-same-sex-marriage-result/9154656 Just a few examples from the conservative side of politics. How about, instead of perpetuating the dumb 'us versus them' mentality, you take a moment to read up about how conservatives responded to the outcome, and realise that virtually all of them are accepting the vote? [editline]16th November 2017[/editline] Considering Labor, the Greens and moderate Liberals are supporting the Smith bill in its current form, I seriously doubt that dumb amendments will be made to the bill.
The dude from my electorate said before the vote he will accept the result, Now he's all "nah fuck this I'm abstaining". Even though a huge majority of the electorate said yes.
If it somehow doesn't get through after all of this (Which I really hope it does get through), the media/public shitshow is going to be incredible, like it would be political suicide at this point for whoever is seen as the one behind that decision.
If that's your interpretation than so be it
another weird skirting of your intentions? why didn't you vote?
another weird skirting of your intentions? why didn't you vote?
Clearly you want something from me that I'm not giving you
Clearly you want something from me that I'm not giving you
Why post then
Some of the arguments from the 'no' campaign were absolutely shit, lol. I was busy caring for my dying mother at the time so this invasion of my privacy showed me just how HORRIBLE and INSIDIOUS the YES side really is!"
Clearly you want something from me that I'm not giving you
Just say why you didn't vote
