U.S only? What.
Anyone want to ship one over?
Depends, can I trust you and will you trust me? :v:
Seriously though, if you really want one, I can hook you up.
Amazon has the right idea with the price. No one wants to spend 500 bucks on a tablet unless it's the iPad. Face it, Apple is brand recognition, and they actually have a solid device. What competitors need to realize is that no one is going to spend 800 bucks on a comparable Motorola tablet.
Hopefully this thing takes-off.
I agree with all but the 500 bucks on a tablet thing.
The Transformer and Galaxy are solid tablets, and well worth the cash, if you really want a tablet.
Other than that, if I didn't have my transformer, I'd consider this. A seven inch screen is a perfect size for a portable tablet - I find my transformer has to go in a laptop bag, and my friend with an iPad keeps his in one too.
This looks like a winner though, I hope that it takes off, and goes far.
Apple vs Amazon
I fucking smell it, it's just around the damn corner!
I never really liked the original Kindle. eBooks seem like such an...unneccessary thing.
It'd be awesome if you could subscribe to magazines, automatically download new issues and keep an archive of all issues that were bought so you can always access your favourite ones.
I've not tried, but I know that my transformer supports kindle, and seems to let you subscribe to the NYT, Daily mail (lol) e.t.c for a monthly fee...
You have to try really damn hard to fill a Kindle with 2GB worth of books!

Also, the Kindle Fire only has 8GB, so it is inferior in that aspect
Cloud storage.
It has a battery and WiFi, hope Apple sues these scumbags

I think that it may be rectangular and rounded, too.
Think we should call in the lawyers?

Skip the lawyers, call in the Apple hit squads.
I'd be more interested in the Kindle if the ebooks didn't cost just as much as printed versions, and in some cases even more.
Never had them cost more in my experience, though I do really get annoyed when it's not at least $10-15 cheaper when they can afford to drop it from lack of manufacturing costs.
Lots of times I get ebooks at half their printed price.
$10 says that they actually sue Amazon saying the menu we see in the first image is too close to Cover Flow.

I've already used about 2 GB in my Kindle 3 :v:
It's really the books with images or audiobooks that take up the majority of your space.

I find it funny how you use words "iPad", "Apple" and "Solid" in the same sentence.
I find it funny how you use words "iPad", "Apple" and "Solid" in the same sentence.
The Apple iPad is solid. My hands don't phase through it when trying to use it.
I think I found a flaw in your statement.
While the Fire sounds decent I'm more interested in the Kindle 4.
[editline]28th September 2011[/editline]
Never mind, the Kindle 4 (NOT THE KINDLE TOUCH) isn't really an improvement over the Kindle 3, they just took out the keyboard and made it slightly smaller overall, gave it only 2 GB of memory (about half of the Kindle 3), less battery life, and a smaller screen.

Actually the screen size is exactly the same. The device overall is considerably smaller, though.

My MacBook that I'm using right now (just as any other Apple product) is about as solid as a wet waffle.

Fuck me, I just bought a kindle Wifi for 100$, Id gladly pay double for a color android tablet :(
Holy shit, IPS, likely Tegra 2 processor, not shitty touchscreen and polished UI for $199?
Haha. there's no chance it's a Tegra 2 at that price, It's almost guaranteed a Samsung S5pv210 (Cortex A8) CPU.

Texas Instruments 1GHz dual core.
Texas Instruments 1GHz dual core.
Well it's not a Tegra 2 then.
Well it's not a Tegra 2 then.
I didn't say it was.
Fuck that, I can easily see someone using a 7" screen. Someone's Apple biased.
Actually, I believe that the iPad has an 8.x" screen

9.7
I hoped for colored e-ink.
As much as I love the price point, I don't think it has nearly enough functionality to compete with the iPad in the slightest. I believe Amazon is targeting a different market than the "iPad competitor" market.

It's more of a flexible e-book than a tablet, even though they BASICALLY are the same.
It's a nook destroyer, not iPad competition
I give it 2 weeks after launch before blackberry sues them for ripping off the Playbook design
$10 says that they actually sue Amazon saying the menu we see in the first image is too close to Cover Flow.
Look at the icons in the bottom image. Squares with curved corners. A blatant violation of legitimate patents if I ever saw one.
/sarcasm
Well it's not a Tegra 2 then.
No it's even better. Because the lowest possible dual core Ti chip it could be is the 4430 and that's a faster chip than the Tegra 2.
I give it 2 weeks after launch before blackberry sues them for ripping off the Playbook design
I just read a PC World review of it where they said that the two tablets were designed by the same guys, so I doubt there's gonna be any suing.
As previous reports indicated, the Kindle Fire looks a lot like the BlackBerry PlayBook because it was designed by the same company that helped Research In Motion build that tablet. The Fire is slightly thicker than the PlayBook, yet thinner than 7-inch Android tablets such as the Lenovo IdeaPad A1 or the Toshiba Thrive 7".

“I don’t actually believe 7-inch is going to be a viable tablet for anybody,” he said. “It’s a ‘tweener. A real tablet offering has got to be a 10-inch screen.”
Doesn't he know it's not the size of the screen but the motion of the three-axis gyro and accelerometer?

Just read PDF books.. That's the reason I bought the kindle, because it functions as a PDF reader as well as an Ebook reader.
