I think I might actually get this, in all seriousness. Easy access to eBooks and a decent selection of apps, and don't forget it will probably eventually be hacked to run Honeycomb.
kindle Touch? Where is my lawsuit!
More than worrying about apple suing them, they should expect Microsoft to go ahead and demand a royalty agreement with them over some patented code on Android, as they have already done with Samsung, HTC, ViewSonic, Acer and LG. While they're still being patent aggresive, at least they try to get a peaceful agreement with OEMs instead of going lawsuit apeshit like apple.
The new Kindle design doesn't look that great. It looks like an old palm pilot or something. And it also costs $10 more (if you don't want "special offers"), and has no keyboard. What am I missing?
row row fight the powah [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Somewhat interested.

What am I missing?
It's not meant to replace the Kindle 3, it's lower price basically makes it a "budget" Kindle to help persuade people to get one, though it's lower price requires it to be slightly worse in a few ways, most noticeable of all being half as much memory. I personally will only buy the new Kindle if my Kindle 3 gets stolen or broken, since it's cheaper. [editline]29th September 2011[/editline]
It's a nook destroyer, not iPad competition
This. If you look at Amazon's page for it they still talk about reading on it all over the damn page, if it wasn't going to be used for reading then why use the Kindle name? Yes, it can have apps and stuff but like the Nook Color it was made as a color e-reader, not a tablet. That also explains why they said it's not to compete with the iPad.
Someone mentioned this not having USB, does it charge of DC or something? No USB = No purchase.
I've been thinking of getting a Kindle, this could be it. Except it has no USB. Gotta wait till next year, probably.
It has micro-USB? Does nobody check the specs?
I'll hold out for a few weeks until it gets hacked to run honeycomb/Windows 8, now that'd be a sale for me.
Pretty sure this thing runs Android 2.0, since I doubt they'd put Honeycomb and Tegra2 on a $199 tablet that is only 7" in size. Though... the latest Honeycomb update has added support for 7" so who knows (as well as support for ARM processors I think). Not that any of this matters anyways since all devices will be getting the ICS update later this year. But in any case, this is a great introductory tablet price for people who just want something simple for simple webbrowsing usage, etc. I don't see this as being as useful as a smartphone though if its a 7" A nice side effect of this though, is that the Asus Transformer, probably the best "Full" and "HD" android tablet you can buy for your money, apparently has had its price dropped to $350 That's $350 for a full tegra2 HD 10" tablet with IPS, microphone, camera, HD card, and USB keyboard dock support with the dock. Easily one of the best tablets you can buy, and has just as much if not more than what you can do with an iPad.
It has micro-USB? Does nobody check the specs?
Where are the specs? I just see a bunch of cock waving in my face with "Stunning, amazing, rich, incredible, fast and simple to use!!1"
I'll see how it shapes up. I look at tablets with sceptical eyes.
If it's reasonably priced (in the UK) then I will seriously consider getting one.

It more than likely is a Cortex A8 like I've said already, but not a Samsung version. This is in the price range of that CPU for quality Chinese tablets such as the Dropad A8 which has a Capacitative screen instead of all the other low cost tablets, still has the IPad look though. Holy fuck, if this gets a good sized development community I will gladly trade it in for my nook color. [editline]30th September 2011[/editline] I don't even use my nook color for reading anyway... its on CM7 and overclocked. I love this thing.
theres too many android tablets on the market anyways
theres too many android tablets on the market anyways
Don't like diversity? well then you're free to buy a iPad instead.
Don't like diversity? well then you're free to buy a iPad instead.
iPad - bad OS Android tablets - Decent OS, crashes all the time
iPad - bad OS Android tablets - Decent OS, crashes all the time
Then get a tablet that doesn't use either, I'm sure there's at least one.
iPad - bad OS Android tablets - Decent OS, crashes all the time
What Android tablet do you have that 'crashes all the time' my entire family has android phones and none of us 'crash all the time'.
I love my Kindle 3. Amazon, take all my money! Also, have we forgotten the other ~200$ tablets? :v:
I love my Kindle 3. Amazon, take all my money! Also, have we forgotten the other ~200$ tablets? :v:
I wish people would stop calling it a tablet Like the Nook Color it's an ereader and even Amazon says it's not a tablet
I wish people would stop calling it a tablet Like the Nook Color it's an ereader and even Amazon says it's not a tablet
It's a tablet bro. It's within the tablet form factor, and it runs Android.
I love my Kindle 3. Amazon, take all my money! Also, have we forgotten the other ~200$ tablets? :v:
Why would you upgrade to this from a Kindle 3? I don't see the point at all.
What Android tablet do you have that 'crashes all the time' my entire family has android phones and none of us 'crash all the time'.
Cell phone. Huawei Ascend (M860)
I really find this quite tempting I already have a 10" device with my netbook but a 7" tablet at this price running android seems really cool, may wait for the second iteration or at least to see if there are any major flaws first time around
Cell phone. Huawei Ascend (M860)
That's like saying Windows crashes all the time because you run it on a shitty computer. Sorry but the Ascend is like the lowest of low end.
Why would you upgrade to this from a Kindle 3? I don't see the point at all.
Exactly, this new Kindle doesn't replace the Kindle 3, it's a lower end version. (Not talking about the Fire)
