How Apple will convince you to buy a smartwatch (AKA a good read for skeptical people)
conversations with Siri
my favorite way to spend the weekend
Bright LCD's look super tacky anywhere on the human body to me. I think the wristband/bracelet is hideous and toyish, with the aspect ratio being a little bit "off" for something that wants to be called a watch. I hope the battery life can at the very least last more than 24 hours otherwise I don't see any advantages over just continuing to use the phone you already have.
This friend will be wearing an Apple Watch. And at first, you'll giggle. It's a wrist computer! It looks silly, like something out of Dick Tracy. You'll say something snide, like, "Get a lot of dates with that thing?" The friend will laugh good-naturedly. He'll show you some of the things the Apple Watch can do: Twitter notifications, turn-by-turn directions, conversations with Siri. You'll pretend to be wowed. You'll move on to other subjects.

What kind of place is this
Me with my friends it's more
"Hahah look at you faggot got yourself an apple watch"
"I know right It's like having a less functional iphone on your wrist"
and then we both laugh
The problem with smart watches is that they have no purpose. They fill no niche other than being neat. The best they do is save you two seconds pulling out your phone to do the same thing but more efficiently. They need to find a purpose.
Yeah, actually, and they look fairly normal when worn. Give me a minute.
EDIT: Here you go. Not too shabby, right? [t]http://imgur.com/SeDOZ1y.png[/t]
To be blunt, that is one of the ugliest watches I have seen in some time (excluding the cheap crap ones).
I mainly want a watch for looking at the hour and shit, why would I buy a expensive watch computer that has a stupid battery thing that can run out in hours? My watch has never been out of power for like 3 years,
I don't know, how many capacitive touchscreen phones did you see before the iPhone? Apple may not innovate themselves, but they take a lot of innovative stuff and shove it in consumer products.
The argument is, that this isn't innovation, it's iteration.
In terms of fashion, no other smartwatch manufacturer offers nearly as much choice or customisation as the Apple Watch seems to.
The moto 360 uses a standard watch strap pin so you can use literally any watch strap you want. Apple actually made it harder to customize your fashion because it uses a proprietary system.

Standard watch straps can be a pain to change though. Apple's system is a lot easier, and there's nothing stopping third parties from making straps for the same system (which they obviously will).

Proprietary watch straps. Holy fucking shit.
Imagine if Apple were a clothing line.
Yeah, ~revolutionary~ alright

I haven't seen anything about apple's strap system yet. What is it?

they slide in through the side, and can be unlocked with a button press, like this

it does use the standard strap pin but you can not use a strap that contains ferrous metals or else the sensors inside the watch mess up.
So the article is saying you'll buy the iWatch because everyone else is buying it because everyone else is buying it?
Mine is better.

Reminds me a lot of the watch I convinced my parents to buy me back in 4th grade so I could take pictures of girls naked and share them with the only other kid I knew who had one.

(haha jk we just secretly took pictures of peoples dicks in the changing room)
I can't wait to see how fast these things break. Where I live I pretty much only see people using iPhones in good condition for about a month after a "new" model is released. After that it's all cracked casings and shattered screens. Considering how exposed wristwatches are these probably won't even last that long.

I could see myself using a smart watch for something such as running.
I'd be able to see how far I've traveled, how fast I'm going, and I could even use it to set the perfect pace.
But, I could also just use a real map, find a route that is the same distance that I want to run, and then bring a timer with me, or even just look at a clock before going on the run. Having a fancy gadget would be useful in some ways, but I can still do without.

Proprietary straps with a universal connector.
So, theoretically, someone could come along with a standard watch strap adapter, and you could use any strap you want with it.
They're actually doing some really neat stuff with some of their straps, too. The Sport bands use the exact same band as the Ikepod, and the steel link band has little buttons on the back of each link that release it, so you don't need watch tools to get it to fit.
It might not be the prettiest thing right now, but you've got to admit there are some good ideas there.

They're using the exact same Sapphire crystal that normal watches use (except for the sport, which uses hardened Gorilla Glass), so I would expect they'd last about as long as other watches (in terms of not shattering the lens. I don't know what can be said for the expected lifetime of these in software or hardware.)
i dont see why people want these in the first place
is there anything non-gimmicky they can do that phones cant?
[editline]11th September 2014[/editline]
that goes for all smart watches, not just this one
I don't get how you or anyone else can make such summary judgments about a product which hasn't even been released yet.
It's the marketing attitude of this article, honestly. Personally I have absolutely no interest in wearable until I can buy one of these

They're like a big iPod Touch, only smaller and on your wrist.
The market will adapt to the Smartwatches, same as it adapted to the iPad. Nobody was particularly looking for the tablet, even though they've been around since the 90s, but it's now one of the largest consumer electronics markets. I expect the same thing will happen here.
haa smart watches are dumb as heck *apple releases smart watch* i love smart watches but not this one in specific
[editline]11th September 2014[/editline]
apple rarely claim themselves as inventors, but innovators. you can not argue that they don't innovate in a lot of things they release

You can say the same about any other company then, everyone takes ideas and improves/innovates upon them. This is why we end up getting new products that are outdated within a fucking month because technology is always getting better.
People give apple so much shit now days because they hardly innovators they slightly improve upon what they had before. They hardly do anything out of the box or spectacular before. They're milking what products they have and clearly people are getting tired of it. Look at their stock, it was skyrocketing till they made their big announcement and as soon as that happened it started dropping.
Both apple and moto watches are ugly.
Apple was never an innovative company
Not so much making new concepts, but bringing pre-existing concepts into the mainstream. "Innovation" a bullshit buzzword, but I still have to give them kudos to what they kind of contribute to the market.

More like they pull out their iPhone, and say "dumb ass, you spent $300+ to save yourself from taking your phone out of your pocket."

Hell naw. Moto watches look fabulous, like a high-end, non-smart watch. It's use, however, is heavily outweighed by the price.
I think smart watches look alright. If anything real watches look a bit goofy to me, they just seem outdated

You can already do that with a smartphone and you would also be able to listen to music.
Are these things even able to go under water ?
