We don't know the full details of why the officers were not in uniform. I just cant fully blame the kid if they were not in uniform. Was he a drug dealer or what? All we really know are the intimidate details so no one can really make a fair judgement.
Maybe the ballistic vest and guns would have played into a decision... Not all departments require that their officers be in there BDU while working.
they could have been narcs or off duty, there really isn't enough details to come to a conclusion on why they were in their civvies [editline]23rd August 2012[/editline] it shouldn't matter that they were in their civvies anyway, the kid pulled a gun on the guys. he got what was coming.
It's a lot less likely to kill him than if they're shot anywhere else.
No it isn't. This is said in every thread: here major arteries in our legs, and you're much more likely to strike one of those than if you fired at someone's stomach or chest. Plus, legs are tiny, and legs move fast, the torso is big and moves slowly, which do you think is safer to shoot at without missing?
Flamming a little much here
i was going to edit that and then i got sidetracked but i posted that before i saw your post directly above mine so MY BAD !!!
Reaching the third floor, he leveled the weapon and did comply with orders to drop it. The gun was described as a shotgun with a pistol grip.
wait is this a typo or am i seriously reading that they shot him after he complied with their orders to drop the weapon also they were plain clothes cops, did they ever identify themselves as police or were they just two dudes with vests and guns chasing a kid up a flight of stairs?
Guys, guys, you are wrong, this thread should obviously be about gun laws. Ban shotguns!
wait is this a typo or am i seriously reading that they shot him after he complied with their orders to drop the weapon
It was a typo.
It was a typo.
according to who?
Guys, guys, you are wrong, this thread should obviously be about gun laws. Ban shotguns!
maybe we should just make murder illegal instead
maybe we should just make murder illegal instead
that would be easiest done by banning being alive
according to who?
there's a video in the link, the kid is off camera when the shots are fired but I don't think he was off camera long enough to draw the gun, be asked to drop it, and comply that's all guesswork, but I think it's probably safe to say it's a typo
there's a video in the link, the kid is off camera when the shots are fired but I don't think he was off camera long enough to draw the gun, be asked to drop it, and comply
in the video i dont see him with a gun in the first place. i also don't see how he has time to draw a weapon and ignore a command to drop the weapon, but NOT enough time to drop it?
Guys, guys, you are wrong, this thread should obviously be about gun laws. Ban shotguns!
sorry dude, but this post satirizing people who critique countries with broad gun cultures is hardly warranted for this thread
wait is this a typo or am i seriously reading that they shot him after he complied with their orders to drop the weapon also they were plain clothes cops, did they ever identify themselves as police or were they just two dudes with vests and guns chasing a kid up a flight of stairs?
probably a false surrender but seeing the shit you've been saying here i bet you didn't know that was possible
in the video i dont see him with a gun in the first place. i also don't see how he has time to draw a weapon and ignore a command to drop the weapon, but NOT enough time to drop it?
I think he drew it as he walked off camera. While he was still on camera you could see him grab something in his pants leg
probably a false surrender but seeing the shit you've been saying here i bet you didn't know that was possible
clearly i'm the idiot here for reading the article and not making assumptions based on things i have no evidence for. its even more ridiculous to ask whether these cops identified themselves before shooting someone to death
clearly i'm the idiot here for reading the article and not making assumptions based on things i have no evidence for. its even more ridiculous to ask whether these cops identified themselves before shooting someone to death
Problem is I am afraid we won't ever have enough evidence to find out the truth. You are bound to be working with sparse chunks of info you got, and you can argue either point of it endlessly. Shit happened, and unless you manage to start direct investigation, I am afraid all arguments here will be rather fruitless.
I like how nobody in this thread is even arguing that the killing was unjustified and you people still manage to get angry.
I'm not angry I just want to point out that tazers wouldn't work in this situation like the others we've seen
according to who?
Well there is the fact that the sentence as is states that he somehow both aimed and dropped the weapon at the same time. So yeah, it's a typo.
not to mention there would have been a lot more attention paid in the story to policemen shooting a surrendered suspect if that's what had actually happened, rather than just casually mentioning in one line that he surrendered and was shot dead e: blindingly obvious actually
why would he pull a shotgun when he has two guns aiming at him this isn't CoD, idiot.
So has this thread went into the whole "the cops should have avoided the kid's gunshots by a triple somersault then karate chop the weapon out of his hands" crapfest already ? It seems like every time a news like this pops up, misinformed people come by and start whining about how cops are hidden supermen that can totally take anyone out without shooting once but they don't because they are assholes or something.
It's a lot less likely to kill him than if they're shot anywhere else.
You're quite likely to get hit in a really large artery if shot in the knee, not only that but it would cripple a person, most likely permanently, as the kneecap is an anchor-point for multiple large muscles

"Insert generic they are trained to shoot center mass to kill comment"
I honestly see nothing wrong with this. Even if the cops were not in uniform, if you pull a shotgun on anybody you can expect to be shot, because what's going through the other person's head is no longer "I'm a cop I need to make this arrest/preserve my cover," but rather "He pulled a gun, won't drop it, it's either him or me."
Actually, I think the teenager did everything wrong there. The only way he could've gotten out of this would've been actually shooting the cops instead of pointing his shotgun in their general direction, hoping the police would follow his orders. The police did nothing wrong. Can't blame him for trying, but it didn't go very well.
I came in here thinking Oh boy, this is going to be an argument on whether the police identified themselves before he pointed his shotgun at them or not, But they're clearly in police gear, wearing vests which say POLICE on the back, radios and all. And one officer flinched before shooting so I believe when they say he pointed a gun at them before firing. Justified in my books
all the bunny's are stabbing each other
I haven't seen Lankist post in a while so I don't think this will turn into a gun ban thread
