If you care about something enough to throw a tantrum over a design choice, you're probably...
A. Following it closely with actual invested interest.
B. Someone who gets upset at things you don't agree with when you see it on a newsfeed, then bound to forget about it in a week or two.
[editline]you're a fucking twat[/editline]
And could you at least have the common decency to have a civil argument with me instead of freaking the fuck out and typing like an idiot????? smh tbqh fam!!!!

Yeah it's pretty stupid to argue with people by saying shit like that instead of actually arguing in a decent fashion.
But yeah, he's not overweight, his body is actual muscle compared to bodybuilder muscle, which would go more towards herculean strength rather than real strength. Different cultures and whatnot.
Either way people bitching about him having actual musclefat and strength instead of generic Arnold Schwarzenegger prime muscles is really stupid, honestly they'd respect false strength over real strength.

C. Part of the culture that respects and/or worships that god that happened to come across that image and complain about it because they never knew the design before.
I'm "freaking the fuck out" because your post is just absolutely riveting. You're implying that this is a "tantrum" when it's nothing more than people concerned and/or disgruntled. You're implying that the people who are disgruntled with this design choice are throwing a "tantrum" because they have nothing better to do than to "throw a tantrum". You're trying to shit on either right wingers, left wingers, or both for not knowing about a design choice in a movie that they probably never even heard of until now (its especially confusing when this is not a right wing/left wing issue!!!)

Yeah but they're complaining about a very specific thing and said complaints are wrong anyway.

The exact quote is not about the character representing the actual deity its based on but the polynesian people, which is wrong anyway because there are strong, muscular polynesians who resemble this dude (coconut tree guy)
Yeah but they're complaining about a very specific thing and said complaints are wrong anyway.
And also not complaining about all of the other characters who appear to have been changed just as drastically.
Complaints aren't "wrong". See my post with the fat jesus with down syndrome in it. Also watch the video in this article: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36660660

EDIT: I could've sworn this said something else. Let me edit this post.
I think that the character everyone is complaining about is about 10 sizes larger than the polynesian coconut tree guy. If that god in the video looked like the coconut tree guy, then I doubt there would be any problems. There is a character who's built exactly like that, and as far as I know, no one is complaining.
Really, what I'm marginally offended about is the fact that the guy is simply fat because he serves as the comedic sidekick, going off that trailer. It's a common trope. They made a normally well-built god fat only because it would fit his character as a comedic sidekick.

I don't think it's fair to compare a fat Jesus with downs with a deity being muscular in a practical way instead of an aesthetic one.

Even then, i dont see all that much get mad over. Looking up other depictions of them, they vary, most of them looking large and powerful.
This design is just another way of showing the character is large and powerful.

Plus, its not the first time Disney has adapted some sort of mythology and made changes.
Or the 10th.
A lot of their adaptions or works featuring myths or fairy tales take liberties.

It's an educated guess dude. Disney does this a TON with large characters. even judging by the trailer, you know he's going to be written as an obnoxious large dude.
He's being voiced by The Rock for fucks sake i mean come on dude.
in children/family movies, the rock enjoys playing the role of a strong dude who has no fucking clue what he's doing. see: the tooth fairy (oh god).
could be voiced by any other fucking dude, doesn't change the fact that the character is written to be an obnoxious large man.

I know people that look similar to him and I wouldn't dare compare them to such a crossbreed. Plus, it's a cartoon and as such it takes some liberties in terms of proportions. I don't see what the big deal is honestly.

Large obnoxious large dude usually involves fat humor. Look at Big Hero Six, Winnie The Pooh, The Little Mermaid.
I'm fine with fat humor, but the fact that you're rewriting an actually existing non-large character as a large character makes it insulting.
Yes yes. And?
my entire point is that the fact that it's voiced by the rock has nothing to do with fat vs muscle, just if you're large.

Design standpoint argues that he's large and over exaggerated for comedy.

It's perfectly fine not to understand why someone is upset, it's another thing to claim that the people who are complaining are <insert derogatory term here>.
While I get your criticism I don't understand where there's a suggestion of conspiracy involving SJW.
Also you have to keep in mind that the only way for content creators to respond to every complaint that's been done because of people being offended would be by making nothing at all. For instance you've got people pushing for more realistic body depictions in fiction, which this character does nicely by showing the difference between muscular form and function, but now it's offensive because this deity doesn't cater to the beauty standard that are being criticized in the first place.

I would whole heartily agree only if the character wasn't made into a fat motherfucker for the sake of comedy. It would've been better if that character was depicted like the man in the left of that twitter post, or like the strongmen in the pictures people keep linking.
[editline]3[/editline]
The conspiracy theory refers to the fact that the dude thinks hollywood will eventually get tired of political correctness or something. But that was poor wording on my part because conspiracy theory implies that political correctness has power inside hollywood.
This is such a non-issue. It's a fake controversy created by the merchants of victimization.

What is an educated guess.
If the same animation studio is behind movies where they've previously made fat jokes before, and I see a large character who fits the stereotype as a fat jolly person who acts as comedy relief. Then it's completely fair to make the assumption that there will be fat jokes.

Seriously dude what the fuck calm down. He literally throws around a bigass hook that no actual human being can even lift. He's very strong and it shows, you can't just say "he looks fat" when his proportions hint at a fuckton of muscle being underneath.
The only reason he doesn't look like the bulky dude on the left is because it's a cartoon and his proportions are exaggerated to make him stand out among the other bulky dude that will likely also be present in the film.
The rest of your criticism is aimed at him being a comic relief sidekick, which is irrelevant to the topic at hand. The outcry is about him being "obese", which anybody with basic body analysis skills can tell is clearly not the case.

I don't believe you. I grew up with disney movies, I learned that everyone has a body type relative to their character.
If you're an insecure character, you're portrayed with a skinny build. (Protagonist from Atlantis)
If you're the love interest, you're portrayed with an average or above average build. (Every disney princess movie ever.)
If you're the villain, you're portrayed with a threatening body (Gaston (MUSCLE), Ursula (FAT TENTACLES), Jafar (TALL AND SKINNY))
The rest of your criticism is aimed at him being a comic relief sidekick, which is irrelevant to the topic at hand. The outcry is about him being "obese", which anybody with basic body analysis skills can tell is clearly not the case.
There's a visual difference between muscular fat and obese fat, though. I don't see what the big deal is here, he doesn't look fat in a ridiculous way. He just looks like the kind of guy you don't want to anger.

You referring to the bit at the end of the article that follows 80% of discussion on Maui being "obese"?
I’m not phased by the way Maui is designed in this film. In Polynesian mythology, Maui is the demi-god who inspired many myths and legends.
There’s a reason the upcoming film is called Moana and not Maui.
I think this quote sums it up nicely. Would you rather Maui be a standard hero and basically occupy the same narrative niche Moana is supposed to? That would be boring. The way I see it right now, Moana is going to be the one to undertake courageous actions, I wouldn't want that to be overshadowed by Maui's heroic feats, it would depreciate her efforts.
In any case, I don't see how that's worth being offended over.
