Please elaborate.
Its clunky, lots of unused space and there isnt enough function to it. Everything is ultra simplified for no reason.
holy shit bill looks old in that picture
pretty weird to see how he looked like 35 or so years ago
This is why I don't like Windows 8.
He's actually right - if you look at the computer models being shown of at tech shows, Windows 8 has actually inspired the companies to make something radically different. I run Windows 8 on my laptop, and I've used it with mouse and keyboard as well - the new start screen is just as fast to use, as the old start menu. There are problems with the OS, but all in all I think it's a better one than Windows 7.
Its clunky, lots of unused space and there isnt enough function to it. Everything is ultra simplified for no reason.
Unused space? Where? On the metro? Everything ultra simplified? Have you seen the new task manager, the new copy/delete/move progress window, etc etc etc... Most of the things in the desktop environment is the same OR made better.
I was talking about the metro environment and how its completely shit, and you have to use the search function to find stuff that should be in organized categories.
It's not completely shit if you arrange it to your liking. I uninstalled every single one of the default functions like Games, Music, etc.. except weather and replaced them with programs I commonly use. I don't know what you're searching for, but whatever I need and I type to the search I can find in seconds. Give an example.
pretty weird to see how he looked like 35 or so years ago
not excactly 35, but you get the point
Well you take it wrong, I've used it and it takes alot longer then the Windows 7 start menu.
To do what? Give an example if you want us to understand. What are you trying to search?
To do what? Give an example if you want us to understand. What are you trying to search?
Generic tasks you would use the start menu for. It takes longer to find the icon in a mass of 200 icons especially if they dont even have proper icons. I prefer the normal start menu, where everything is sorted into folders in All Programs as I have a ton of shit on my computer, metro gets bogged down and slows my computing experience. I think what would have been a revolutionary design would be if they made a modular UI with plugins and such, similar to Gnome 3, for instance they went all "simplistic interface" on it then people made their own "start menu" style menus for it.
I really dislike windows 8 because of such "features" that cannot be turned off. Such as metro. I want my start menu back. Windows 8 really doesn't look professional or feel professional it makes me feel like I'm sitting in my living room playing on my xbox. I hope they make a business edition that allows us in the IT field to change it back to classic. If not I'm sure many businesses won't be buying Win8. I like some of the features on windows 8 like the backups/system repair tools and such. They've added so many tools like that but I'd like them to port them to Win7. These features may be on the install disk itself though so.. I guess that's a good thing.

I was watching this and just kept thinking about king of the hill.
So on Windows 8 you have to have a look around the screen, as opposed to Windows 7 where you have to expand your tiny start menu and start scrolling around. Protip: You have a keyboard, use it.
Why can't I use my mouse? It should be easier to use and more organized then Windows 7's start menu if they intended to replace it.
That single sentence; People don't like change Makes me have a brain hemorrhage. People do like change, they just don't like it if it doesn't change exactly the way they want. People constantly whine about how music artist change their style and always do the same kinda music year after year, but when they finally change their style and sound, people whine how it's not what it used to be. Dumb people whine about change, wise people see opportunities in change.
Cool, I presume you were aiming that at me, I was on your side there buddy, Idiots don't like change yeah, but it's human nature to reject something that is different, every single windows since about 95 has has start button bottom left, desktop icons, and windows (duh) and then this screen of gaudy coloured squares and rectangles comes a long, people won't like that, it doesn't appeal to people to have to learn a new OS when yes you might be able to use it like the old one but they've done a disgusting job at marketing it.

That face. Oh my god. In other news. I am not switching.
Well you take it wrong, I've used it and it takes alot longer then the Windows 7 start menu.
But you can organize stuff? For how long did you use it? Why should it do that?

Sounds to me like you're making a big deal out of nothing.

I guess my needs are unique, I still think Microsoft should have opted for a modular UI with Metros design, don't know why they didn't. Instead they lock down their UI to shit. [editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
You can use your mouse, and unless you have absolutely no organisation on your home screen its a piece of cake to use. Do the homescreens on iOS/Android scare you?
They dont because I don't have that many apps.
As I had said before the entire style of metro is terrible. I don't know if this is the 'craze' now, but simple flat multicolor rectangles looks fucking ugly to me. Not to mention the fact that they lazily threw that same theme onto all the damn windows. Also the start menu devouring the entire screen doesn't sit well with me either.
give me a start menu and I'm happy
Oh, okay I see what's going on here. You don't know how to organize :v:
Or maybe he doesn't organize how you organize? What a concept!

Look at it, its ugly as sin, what am I doing? Playing a child's board game? Look at all these bright flat colors. Also it doesn't look very organized at all, why are the icons so fucking small compared to everything else, why isn't anything in a proper grid formation, and WHY does it need to eat your entire screen?! Plus, why must everything have a square full size? Why can't I just put it in folders or something that I can blow up when needed, instead of having to organize EVERYTHING on the endless sideways screen? It looks like a clusterfuck no matter how I look at it.
A ton of wasted space that could be used.
Is this your desktop?
