where do i get the start 8 for non-commerical use?
Do you even know what half of this means? Its just fucking buzz words, "Oh yeah CRISP AND CLEAN AND SMOOOOOOOTH, no INFLATION" I could describe Aero the same way, hell I could even describe windows 98 the same way, it means nothing in the end because a great deal of window's interfaces were designed with cleanliness and usability in mind. The reason why i'm complaining is, compared to the other themes, this is a step backwards, yet people still insist its better simply because it looks and operates different. Oh! You thought people only disliked change because they were retarded? Newsflash, It works vice-verse aswell! Why do you think people buy new iphones? It's the "newest thing, the craze, its better really, look at all the things it changes!"
Yes I know what those means. The clean is the fact that its not as blotted up with effects and or other colors. The Crisp comes from the very sharp defined lines either through actual drawn lines or the drawn shadows around a space to define it as such shape. The smoothness comes from the fact that it looks to be single coherent whole instead of the cluster fuck of logos it used to be. Most companies are going this way because it looks more professional and is easier for people who are older or younger to understand what is going on. And this honestly is better if I could find that usergroup study Microsoft used to design metro with. They're buzzwords unless you use them as they're defined.
But you can organize stuff? For how long did you use it? [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] What? Why should it do that?
The right-click and then click on the tab you want is just a bit off to what I'm used to. I'm used to seeing all tabs always on top and just left-clicking it.
Damn Bill. I hate for the day to come when he passes away. :[
I wouldn't worry about him too much, he's one of the wealthiest men in the world and will probably be among the first to be able to access the technologies which will drastically extend our lifespans.

Just use the desktop version, the Metro version is obviously made for tablets.
I don't even leave videogame shortcuts on my desktop.
Me neither, got a folder where they all are on my root drive and I tend to use Launchy or Steam to open them
I've used Windows 8 in months now, for me, Metro start and Windows 8 is like trying to work on a tablet. Luckily i an very pleased with Windows 7, and i don't really have a reason to upgrade. Windows 8 is never going to be successfull around school or work, because of the same reasons Windows Vista didn't. Theres not really anything gain by switching and it costs a fuckton to change.

Gee willy, I guess significantly faster boot times, built-in antivirus, faster UI and more is just nothing. You're wrong

It would be neat if we could have the new NT kernel without all the new UI bullshit They really did a lot of new improvements to the kernel [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] Also builtin antivirus somehow sounds like a recipe for disaster
Builtin antivirus? Holy shit.
It's probably MSE, but, hey, it's the best anti-virus out there at the moment.
It's probably MSE, but, hey, it's the best anti-virus out there at the moment.
It is indeed MSE. It'll disable itself if you install a different AV, but it's nice for the computer illiterate people - it's pretty decent and will fix most stuff.
Disabled that shit right after install.
What's wrong with Microsoft Security Essentials? Now known as Windows Defender.
What's wrong with Microsoft Security Essentials? Now known as Windows Defender.
Because I have ESET, I don't need that.
Because I have ESET, I don't need that.
Then don't use MSE, I guess. Disregard, I sound like an ass here - didn't read the context properly.
Metro is slower to use then start menu.

Well you take it wrong, I've used it and it takes alot longer then the Windows 7 start menu.

Generic tasks you would use the start menu for. It takes longer to find the icon in a mass of 200 icons especially if they dont even have proper icons. I prefer the normal start menu, where everything is sorted into folders in All Programs as I have a ton of shit on my computer, metro gets bogged down and slows my computing experience.
Dude, its the same way to do it in Win 8. Hit Windows button on your keyboard, type whatever you want to launch and hit enter.
Windows 8 sucks
"I only care about the front end, screw the back end!" -Facepunch on software
Bill said hardware partners are taking advantage of new features. What new features exactly concern OEMs, except for secure boot? Is he talking about OA3.0/SLIC 3.0? That's the only thing I can think of, and that's not by choice, and OEMs probably don't give a shit about that.
It's not completely shit if you arrange it to your liking. I uninstalled every single one of the default functions like Games, Music, etc.. except weather and replaced them with programs I commonly use. I don't know what you're searching for, but whatever I need and I type to the search I can find in seconds. Give an example.
I did the same thing when I tried it out. Removed all of the stock metro apps and made a bunch of shortcuts to regular programs I use. And then I realized, "why the fuck am I using metro in the first place then?"
windows 8 is shit and not just because of the style
windows 8 is shit and not just because of the style
do you enjoy having an OS slower and less advanced than Linux or OSX by a long shot? If so, stick with Windows 7 If you want an OS with actually back end (under the hood) changes, adding features that have been in Linux or OSX for years and are finally coming to Windows for the first time, then go Windows 8 and use Start8 or something if you don't like the new start menu.
windows 8 is shit and not just because of the style
Please elaborate. C'mon people, that's no way to keep up a conversation. "Win 8 is shit BUT I AIN'T TELLIN YO ASS WHY!" Who gives a fuck about your opinion if you aren't even willing to explain it.
They're never going to elaborate because they're fucking morons who will come up with shit loads of excuses to not move forward.
Please elaborate. C'mon people, that's no way to keep up a conversation. "Win 8 is shit BUT I AIN'T TELLIN YO ASS WHY!" Who gives a fuck about your opinion if you aren't even willing to explain it.
I explained mine a few months back, but that's changed because it's fucking fast on my SL510 on dual boot. I've used the RTM version.
This isn't about Windows 8 vs any other version of windows, this is about the people who think that Metro is an acceptable transition from the start menu being messed up in the head. It's clearly not.
Metro interface is fine.
But it's not fine as a "new start menu" which Microsoft seems to really really want it as, and most people really really don't want to use it as. The two ideas are not parallel at all, Metro is fine... as a separate app people can use at their own whim, not with the entire rest of the OS built around it. And of course I'm talking about for use on desktops, not tablets which I don't really care about, but can see that the new interface options are all clearly designed for tablets.
My god, so hard and complicated. I'm going to die. [t]http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o272/Crazy47/Metro.png[/t] [t]http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o272/Crazy47/Desk.png[/t]
Grossly over-simplified and counter-intuitive is more appropriate
