Bill Gates: New Windows 8 system is 'very exciting'
Well, why are you trying to argue with me, then? If you have no actual idea (or wish to obtain such) of how Windows 8 actually works, why even bother? The sad thing is that you represent 90% of all Windows 8 critics - I have no problem with people disliking it - it's not like I made the software or have feelings for Microsoft in any shape or form - but having completely uninformed people jump around in their own shitty circlejerk is just awful. Try it out, say it's bad - cool, I won't stop you. But you're honestly just making an ass of yourself right now.
yes, let me install a downgrade in many aspects as my OS when i have a perfectly fine one. Did you guys ever think that maybe its a bad thing because maybe some programs wont run/ have problems with win 8. im fine with win 7 with literally 0 problems/annoyances atm.
They already supported this snapping in 7 via windows + arrow keys. Why not simply expand upon that? Even then, like it or not, it does not provide the same degree of customization. I cannot create snap categories to bind applications to small sections on my screen. That would have been an amazing addition for my scenario on the previous page where I compress a media player into a square while another application occupies the rest of it. It's all vertical divisions, and predetermined sizes at that last I checked. On top of this, last I checked, there's no goddam hotkeys for it, and it had a seizure with multiple screens.
Additionally, we come back full circle to the whole, "Why the fuck can't I opt out of this shit if it was built for tablets?" debate.
Ehh, I honestly don't know what you're criticising - you said that multitasking was worse in Windows 8, but it's exactly the same as in Windows 7, other than the fact that tablets users now also have something they can use? 'Course, I would like them to expand upon Aero Snap, but even then - the Windows management is the best of any OS I can think of. If anything, that's the big winner with Windows.
If you actually give a crap about multitasking then neither the Win7 or win8 start menus are very good for that.
Run dialog and alt-tab, ahoy.

Yeah, I said "stay on Windows 7 if you're fine with it - that's no problem", though I also said "stop posting if you have no idea of what you're talking about".

The only real compatability problems in Win8 are ones to do with signature verification.
Don't see how it is, that was just a really bad *car analogy*.
Metro is never going to be used if they give users the option at startup or whatever, people are always going to pick what they're used to.
Some people will never realise that they might actually like metro if they don't try it.
I'm not talking about some people. I'm talking about me. I've tried it. Extensively in fact. I've listed numerous problems I have with it. You haven't provided any useful feedback.
My analogy is ridiculous. That's deliberate. Your line of reasoning is ridiculous as well. 'deal with it?' Come on.

Multitasking within metro is worse than multitasking in the desktop environment because you cannot organize windows with nearly the same degree of fidelity. I'd still prefer supporting a type thing on a tablet to resize my applications to whatever I wanted.
Again, I see two distinct problems. The start screen needs serious revision, and I still cannot wrap my head around ANYTHING being useful in metro.

There are both downsides and upsides to the new start menu.
For one, I find tiles very aesthetically pleasing. Although apparently for some it can hinder tasking abilities
And the ability to open a power menu by right clicking the start menu is pretty cool. Less jumping through hoops just to open the Disk Manager.

Of course it's worse inside the Metro environment, but that multitasking is also not the one most desktop users will use. Any useful multitasking in a touch-oriented system is good news, so I wouldn't in any way say Windows 8 is worse that Windows 7 in that regard. And you still have Aero snap, so how exactly is it worse? You make no sense at all.
That's because he's 56 (almost 57).
Until I can have metro applications side by side desktop applications, those limitations are a fundamental problem.

Wait.. what? On 7 I press windows key, type 'parti' and hit enter. Boom, disk management. Don't even need to fully spell partition.
Seriously.
What?

But how is it any worse than Windows 7? That was your original argument, now it's "it's not as good as it could have been". And you have to understand something - the desktop environment is an app now, that's why it's managed the same way as other apps.

Just as effective on Win8.
I also don't think you understand the metro design-scheme very well.

You specifically said it's less hoops to jump through.

The power menu is more than the example I have given.
The power menu is more than the example I have given.
And that makes it better for opening disk manager, your specific example, how?
I could put a shortcut to that anywhere I wanted on the start screen. It's not like it doesn't have enormous cavities of empty space.
And that makes it better for opening disk manager, your specific example, how?
It is more obvious for people that don't know the specific name of the application.
Well, good for you man. I'm sure most people could, but I sure wouldn't want to bother with that.

How would you put it in the power menu if you don't know the name of it to begin with?
How would you put it in the power menu if you don't know the name of it to begin with?
What are you talking about?
It's already predefined in the menu
Do you even know what I'm talking about?
How would you put it in the power menu if you don't know the name of it to begin with?
The power menu is a little menu that comes up when you right click at the bottom left of the screen and brings up shortcuts to a load of useful stuff like the command prompt, the control panel, device manager, etc.
What are you talking about?

The machine I have running windows 8 beside me does not have that. Might have taken it off, might have never been there. Don't honestly remember. It is an older build, so who knows.
Regardless, this is an extremely minor usability bonus, amongst a great deal of them.
You're whining about completely optional things.
If you don't like the way Metro multitasks, don't fucking use metro apps. All the old apps like media player and shit are still there. It's not any worse than Windows 7.

Is Windows Update still a dumb metro app?
I think my problem with windows 8 and so on is the fact that I just got windows 7 and I hate the idea of having to shill out more money and have to reinstall an OS. Is it going to get to a point where we buy OS's like every year to keep up with everyone else..?
Is it going to get to a point where we buy OS's like every year to keep up with everyone else..?
Windows 7 came out in 2009, how is that like buying an OS every year to keep up? If you don't want to upgrade, don't. It's not like you're missing out on a new DX version.
Yeah I'm not getting windows 8 because I'm lazy, I probably will eventually though.
This is why I don't like Windows 8.
FYI, most of this video was satire :v: They said it in the video they made after this.

Well, Windows is practically just back on its 3 years between releases schedule. Vista was an odd one out, and you can see how much it fucked stuff up - XP wasn't meant to gain that kind of marketshare.
Windows 8 sucks
Worst satire I've ever heard.
Since you know, nothing they said was in any way said in a joking fashion or had any sort of comedic undertone.
Checked it up; "half serious, half trolling". That's not called satire.
