Activision 'likely' to sell cutscenes as movies - 30$ for a 20 minutes scene

and I thought Uwe Boll made bad movies
Sadly, I already see this working. I'm no fan of Activision anymore and I've stopped buying their products, but it's interesting to speak with friends of mine who are avid fans of franchises like Call of Duty or Starcraft and hear how they have absolutely no problem with the stuff Activision's doing.
A friend of mine who plays CoD tells me he's fine with $60 PC games and $15 map packs because "they're in high demand, so selling them for that much makes sense". And since it makes sense from a business standpoint, it makes sense to him to pay for it. When the first MW2 map pack was announced, he told me "I don't really want to pay that much, but they know exactly what I want so I have to anyway," in reference to the fact that some of the reprinted CoD4 maps were in the pack.
I told a friend of mine who is an avid Starcraft fan about this cutscene thing today and at first he agreed with me that the entire idea as well as the pricing was totally ridiculous...but then said he'd buy it anyway.
As sad and unbelievable as it sounds, Kotick is exactly right - the fans of the franchises under his control are generally pretty dedicated and want this kind of thing no matter what the price. When talking to people I know about this kind of thing literally reveals an answer of "they know what I want", that's a pretty strong sign that Kotick knows what he's doing. He's a total greedy ass who truly ruins the quality and purity of any franchise he touches, but in the end you have to concede that he's a total fucking business genius who will continue to roll in more money daily than you will ever make in your entire life. :smithicide:
Tetracycline is right. Kotick's customers make his actions possible. Every time you buy something with "Activision" on the box, you're making shit like this happen.
Want to do something about it? Stop buying products by that fucking company. The problems don't just magically disappear. The customer has the final say.
Exactly this. I tell my friends this all the time - "You vote with your wallet." Does it really fucking matter if MW2 is actually a great game? Do you really need to buy it on day one at $60? You can't wait until it's cheaper, at least? Show Activision that you want to pay the standard price for these games and content, because Activision doing this is all just a testing ground for setting a new standard that capitalizes on your willingness to empty your wallet out at Activision's feet out of sheer blind devotion to your favorite franchise. If you keep buying $60 PC games, $15 map packs, and $30 cut scene movies, then everybody else will start selling $60 PC games, $15 map packs, and $30 cut scene movies because they know damn well that they can get away with it.

Strange. I was under the assumption that I payed 60$ for Starcraft 2 because I thought it was worth it. I had no idea it was because of blind devotion for the franchise! Ya' learn something new every day.
What happened activision?
What happened!?

I'm happy because I got it for free, even though it is totally worth $60.
Hasn't Blizzard done this before?
Oh wait, they did.
Wow, this is more greedy than Infinity ward.
Who would by cutscenes?

Gabe is dissapoint.
Can it get any fucking worse than this? I mean holy FUCK.
Why's the gaming industry all about customers instead of fans all of a sudden? Why can't it be simple gaming like the Build engine era anymore? Damn.

OR BATTLEZONE FOR THAT MATTER. Which was released by the same company as we have now only less greedy and fucked up. DAMN I loved battlezone. That was the good shit.
Cause that guy is in charge of Activision.
You honestly think he's the only one?
Christ, perish the thought!

Technically your right, there is technically a council, but still Bobby holds most of the strings.
This won't work as most 12 year olds don't watch the cutscenes because they are too busy playing multiplayer.
What a fucking jerk this guy is. I want to smack his greedy face into his Activision desk.

Doesn't that mean Acti's BOD can pull the plug on him? Or are they too stupid to realize?
Read the article, he's talking about making full length movies. Thread title is totally wrong.
You know, I can goto my local theater and watch a movie for 6$, so this must be a long ass movie.
I don't watch cutscenes anyway, but its still stupid as hell and pisses me off.

Bobby Kotick is like a twerp with anger management issues in control of a massive warship armed with biological weapons.
what the fuck I don't spend 20$ to see a 2 hour masterpiece in the cinema why would I pay that for some shit I could get in the game.
This was the single thing I hated most about Bad Company 2. Most games just take you out of the equation and play some video. In BC2, you literally couldn't walk 20 feet without triggering another cutscene at times...
The only game I've ever played that did cut scenes right was Half Life 2, and that is because you were still 100% in control of your character.
