• Forest Service can't take the heat in Hell Canyon

In a historic move today by the National Forest Service, the long-standing office in the Hell Canyon district is to be closed. While some are pleased with the move, others are not happy. Let's take a look at both sides of the issue: The 28 newly displaced employees will now work in the NFS Supervisor's office. While this may seem like a logical move given the deteriorating state of the Hell Canyon office, some feel otherwise.
The move has created a buzz among Forest Service employees, some of whom — reportedly many at the district office —are worried about losing their identity when the move happens.
In a more extreme statement, one employee was quoted as saying
“Employees are not happy,”
Can the move be completed without sacrificing employee identity? Acting supervisor Dave Mertz provides an answer:
“It’s going to work out; it will just be a little transition.”
On the other side of the debate, proponents of the move argue that the Hell Canyon office
"...is not being fully utilized"
In addition, the building is said to be plagued by
"... a lack of space, an overabundance of less-than-ideal retrofitting, a leaky basement that was never intended to house offices and overall inefficiency"
Time will tell if this move was the right decision. What do you think? http://www.custercountynews.com/cms/news/story-713141.html
I don't understand.
from his other thread:
I don't see why small town news can't be here, it's usually more newsworthy than half the stuff posted on SH.
i think he is trying to be edgy by implying SH news aren't newsworthy, somehow posting unremarkable news that no will care about, helps him prove that point apparently. :v:

Tell that to the 28 people now without workplace identity or even an office to call home.
Just because other trash isn't news doesn't mean that small town news is relevant. The middle east is relevant, Ukraine is relevant, China is relevant, North Korea is relevant, etc. This is just unreasonable.

The Federal government has just made a decision that will affect the lives of 28 people. From what the article says, the forest service is going to have 28 people man a front desk. The phone system hasn't even been sorted out yet.

This is what happens when you work for the government.
