Implying that the size of your country matters in a war. You're like one of those 9 year olds who go "lol my cuntry is bigger than urs we'd win a war against u"

Its about nukes and your army, not the size of your country. And tanks... And firepower...
And yeah, I was implying that the size of a country matters in a war. Because North Korea sucks.

There we go again, it doesn't matter how many fucking nukes you have in a war, the most you'll fire is one or two (And that's saying that you'll even use them in the first place) Nukes are not used for warfare but are more of a one way ticket in the UN council seat and the more you have the stronger your country is, basically. And if the US does fire one on NK the whole world will go to shit because the nuclear fallout may reach China and Japan, obviously SK as well, causing thousands if not millions of deaths and diseases for decades. You're underestimating the power of nuclear weapons.
The whole world will just watch as the US fires its nukes yet again and the country will be bashed by UN representatives for at least 2 decades, many countries are most likely stop supporting the US. It's not that simple to just say 'lol nuke them'.

there ARE innocents living in best Korea, you know that right?
The US should drop a 5 kilo bag of rice on every city. The government will then shut up and and join in to eat the thin rice porridge :smug:

You fail to understand how nuclear warfare works. It isn't fire a few and then everybody's all fine and dandy, it's either fire none or fire all.
Scenario may follow as such:
North Korea launches first, local allied forces in the area will launch defensive attacks against the missle, followed by a retaliatory strike of high yield retalitory strike of conventional means via SRBM. China, in it's panic at the impending missile strikes, will launch several nuclear ICBMs. US, taking this as support for NK, will launch nuclear ICBMs following china's launch. In it's own preservation Russia will launch its ICBMs. Both launches are soon followed by launches by NATO and Warsaw Pact countries. Many more may be launched as a retaliatory strike.
I am basing this off of cold war nuclear maps and tactics, it may be flawed, but in the mentality of nuclear warfare, there is no such thing as a limited war.
Everyone fails to understand Nuclear War, it's never happened before, and it never will.

world war ii was technically a nuclear war

Guess what, the Cold War ended 20 years ago, many tactics and rules were modified and nuclear warfare hasn't been used in over 70 years now. Rules and tactics change on a daily basis, be it small changes or large ones. And no, it's not 'fire all or fire none', China wont start launching nukes at anything since that would just be suicide. And I just goddamn said that if the US nukes NK the whole world will go to shit, but not in a sense of nuclear war.
Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki? yeah, the US nuked them with no real justified reason and Japan fell silent for weeks after the bombings, they didn't try to attack back and no war was declared on the US, but the world gave them some serious political bashing ever since.

First statement: Yeah, a retliatory attack because of Pearl harbor isn't justified, no, no.
Secondly, the US was the only one with the nukes at time, and the attack were successful, we eliminated the military targets.
Also, we spent billions of dollars helping them back up, why do you think they are so prosperous now?
So the US Carrier in South Korea has begun the exercises. Now we play the waiting game.

Being Japanese I can tell you with full confidence that the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely justified. Although tragic, we hope it will never happen again, but in the circumstances, it was justifiable.
I'm also trying to comprehend your post. You say that "they didn't try to attack back and no war was declared on the US" which I don't understand, are you referring to the Japanese? The US And Japan had been fighting with for years at point. The attacks on Pearl Harbor and Alaska took place prior to the nuclear attacks but they did infact attack the US and war was declared prior to the nuclear attacks, on the day of Pearl Harbor, so why would they need to declare war again?

Japan was already on its knees after the war, everyone knew that. There wasn't a need in such an extreme offense causing thousands of deaths of innocent people, if they would just continue the negotiating they would eventually come to an agreement.
That's not the point, if the world was really that offended by the US' attack they would declare war, the Soviet Union in particularly. But nothing happened besides said political bashing. You dont necessarily have to fight nukes with nukes.

No, I'm talking about other countries in economic alliances/military ones with Japan at the time.

Japan was weak, very weak, yes. But they were preparing for a last grand defensive, having stockpiled the remaining fuel and planes and spreading them across the home islands to hide them until they could be used as suicide bombers. They were arming citizens, they were reinforcing the current garrisons as they could and had even begun to ferry troops from Korea to Japan in preparation for a US invasion. These among many other things. Hell, even after the bombings a large portion of the Japanese still wanted to continue the war and attempted to overthrow the emperor, but it wasn't successful.
The deaths that would have resulted from a invasion of the home islands would have doubled, even tripled the death toll from the nuclear bombings.
[editline]03:38AM[/editline]
Japan would fall, but not with ease.

Well, barring we made the nukes and used them, there probably would have been a full scale invasion, with millions more lives lost than with the nukes. Japan wouldn't give up, even after the first bomb was dropped.
But reading your appended edit, yeah, all of Japan's allies were in shambles.
You dont necessarily have to fight nukes with nukes.
This may be true and in the most ways, the nicer way for things to happen, but the best way to eliminate a fire in some circumstances is to fight it with fire.
Use of nuclear weapons is still a viable tactic and a political tool. Unfortunately, the common concept of nuclear carpet bombing and complete destruction of a country is grossly inaccurate.
As the one gentleman above me mentioned the Cold War ended long ago.
