He gave Congress a chance to do that, and they deadlocked completely because of a bunch of knee-jerk reactions and refusals to let anything pass that benefits the other party. So now he's overstepping them and doing something instead of just letting Congress continue to be Congress and do nothing productive.
If Obama is willing to overstep Congress to implement the policy he wants, then he can mandate immigration reform just as easily as he can mandate blanket amnesty against deportation for illegal immigrants already here. Cutting back on deportation without making it any easier for honest people to immigrate here isn't solving the problem, it's encouraging more people to immigrate illegally and stay stuck outside of society, exploited for cheap labor, and makes it easier for the drug cartels to move across the border since they don't need to worry as much about getting caught. What we need is comprehensive immigration reform, to reduce the ridiculous backlog and give ordinary people a chance to get in, and if Obama is already issuing EOs to enact policy then there's nothing stopping him.
But no, you're right, the REAL problem is clearly that the border isn't secure and we're not deporting enough Mexicans.
literally nobody said this
Good job America now you can be like us and give away free things to people who aren't even a real citizen while the rest of us need to work tooth and nail for everything. THANKS GOVERNMENT
What gives you the right to decide weather or not other people can live here? Why is your opinion worth more than theirs?
Where did I say anything like that? I'm 100% in favor of people immigrating to this country. I just expect them to do it the legal, established way. Something he probably couldn't do unless he started it at the beginning of his first term and got elected for a second, and even then he'd have to battle Congress who've been just shutting down anything he tries to get done. As far as I know they're not even sure he actually has this power, so this might not even come to pass. This really just seems to be his way of telling Congress that they need to actually do something if they want to stay relevant.
So let's fucking fix it, not encourage more people to circumvent the system and turn it into some bizarre game of hide-and-seek where if you avoid getting deported for long enough you win the prize of amnesty.
Immigration doesn't get fixed in this country why are you still saying that immigration reform for the right means passing the 1924 act into law again

I can see why some may feel this is a bad thing; but if my assumption is correct then this means plenty of new tax payers properly entered into the system; rather than working under the table not reporting income like everyone else.
You realise unless you're born here, are rich, are famous, or are highly qualified in a highly demanded field, you have next to 0 chance of gaining citizenship, right? According to those ratings, our immigration system is fine. That must be why so many people opt to break in instead.
I got married and joined the military for three years. I'm a citizen wasn't hard, or expensive at all. I feel like every immigrant should do time in the military it was a great experience and it definitely made me feel like America was my home.
