• J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell in talks to maybe make Half-Life or Portal movie

Sometimes I just like to imagine what it must be like to be Gaben. I imagine that he was probably made fun of in college for being nerdy or overweight, but now he's sitting next to J.J. Abrams discussing the possibility of Abrams making a movie based on Gaben's own famous game. That is the life.
Is there anything JJ Abrams can't do?
Avoid lense flare.
I think a movie could fit well with the half life and portal universe. I do not know if they should use gordon freeman as the main character since he never talks, but idk maybe they could pull it off. The universe of half life is extremely interesting and there is a lot that can be told in between the games.
If they ever make a HL movie, I kinda doubt it'll have Gordon as the main character.
I think they should do the 7 hour war with idk barney as the lead. Or just a random guy.
Not feeling too positive towards a movie (I'd rather have them finish the Half-Life series first), but the least I can say is it probably wouldn't be terrible. I think J.J Abrams has proven to be capable of handling sci-fi and pacing properly.
I feel a Portal movie could be "okay". Depends on which dates they focus on though. Before GLaDOS for example, like with Cave Johnson.
J. J. Abrams made Lost. I fucking love Lost. I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome.
Could they possibly do it with SFM? J.J. Abrams and Valve already did this.
Portal, ok Half-Life, plz don't
Lens Flare jokes are not funny and should be bannable
Some things are just not meant to be. A new SW trilogy and Big Hollywood movies based on Valve games is just crossing the threshold of bad decisions. Sure, It'd be cool to see a Valve movie and I have absolute faith in the Gaben, but it's unnecesary the same way a Watchmen movie is. Okay, so you just adapted and compressed a graphic novel meant to never be adapted into a 3 hour long movie, simplifying the story and characters while not satisfying anyone in the process. Coo'. On the other hand, a brand new, original project written by someone at Valve in one of their games' universe would be a dream come true. Remember how everyone's mind was blown when it turned out Portal was connected to Half-Life? Just my 2 cents Facepunch.
lol no one wants a fucking movie just get off your asses and release episode 3
Wow don't you people do the simple research before complaining about lack of Half-life 3? In December Valve officially stated they are making a NEW ENGINE, which means it will debut with Half-Life 3. So Next Generation Valve game engine + HL3= alot of time in development.
Not rape the Star Trek franchise?
Because the TNG movie totally didn't already rape Star Trek. oh... [editline]6th February 2013[/editline]
Lens Flare jokes are not funny and should be bannable
They have never been funny really, people act like Star Trek 09 was the first film to ever have animorphic lens flares.
I don't care how long it takes them to make the game, as long as the time is well spent on it.
It's been five and a half years. A single person would probably be able to make a decent Half-Life 2 sequel in that time.
So he's got the new Star Trek coming out Disney wants him to do the next Star Wars And now this... Dude has balls to attempt making movies for these franchises. Imagine all the butthurt if he fails to deliver
It's been five and a half years. A single person would probably be able to make a decent Half-Life 2 sequel in that time.
A single person? Riiiight.
10 dollars says that they're going to give freeman a voice, and a horribly unfitting one at that.
Abrams is a good director, but I'm more worried about who's going to be writing it. Especially considering movies based on videogames are usually awfully written.
10 dollars says that they're going to give freeman a voice, and a horribly unfitting one at that.
Freeman would make a perfect Eli
I personally believe that video games are a MUCH more powerful storytelling medium. Why would you take two near-perfect games, with two completely unique and engaging stories, and try to retell them using a medium that lacks the necessary interaction that made them so special in the first place? Hollywood.
I personally really dont think that they would do the story of Half-Life 2 and its episodes, but rather base it on the Half-life universe and not try to compress the story into a single movie, and instead, just make a seperate story in the same universe.
On top of that, there hasnt been a video game/movie adaptation to date that has reached beyond the level of mediocrity. I'm not too confident they can pull it off; maybe I'm being too pessimistic though.
you forget what it is after a while
you forget what it is after a while
But that's the other way around isn't it?
If they really make a Half Life movie, it would have to be the seven hour war. Anything with Gordon in it wouldn't work, since he's mute.
Freeman would make a perfect Eli
That really confused me for a while. Then I realized you're talking about Morgan Freemen, right? :v:
That really confused me for a while. Then I realized you're talking about Morgan Freemen, right? :v:
No, Gordon Freeman as Eli.
A single person? Riiiight.
That's called hyperbole. All I meant was that a bit more and Half Life 3 will be like DNF - never able to satisfy our expectations. I mean, after 5 1/2 years, it has to be better than sliced bread.
