J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell in talks to maybe make Half-Life or Portal movie
That's called hyperbole. All I meant was that a bit more and Half Life 3 will be like DNF - never able to satisfy our expectations. I mean, after 5 1/2 years, it has to be better than sliced bread.
I can confidently say that it will be better than sliced Hitler
Get this guy to play Gordon Freeman so he can save the movie:

Star Fortress 2?
idea for half life movie:
7 hour war
idea for portal movie:
how glados took over aperture science with a group of scientists trying to escape it
If they really make a Half Life movie, it would have to be the seven hour war. Anything with Gordon in it wouldn't work, since he's mute.
he's not mute

unfortunately Ross Scott looks more like a Musketeer now since he's grown his hair way longer and IIRC might have shaved the beard
I'd rather not see a movie made at all.
Even with Gabe overseeing it, you can't really change the fact that these games arent really suitable for being made into a movie. They would have a better chance with Left4Dead.
On top of that, there hasnt been a video game/movie adaptation to date that has reached beyond the level of mediocrity. I'm not too confident they can pull it off; maybe I'm being too pessimistic though.
I hope to god this isn't a film adaptation of what we saw in any games. In the Half-life universe there are a lot of events that we haven't seen or heard much about such as the seven hour war, that could be stand alone, and yet be shown in a way that pleases fans to the series and introduces new audiences into the world of half-life.
Oddly enough i would prefer a TF2 movie.
It would be a fantastic comedy/action movie and there is enough story to play around with.
Freeman would make a perfect Eli
Morgan Freeman is too old to play Eli IMO.

It would make a good TV series, but it's too ridiculous for the big screen.
If a HL movie was going to happen, I don't want to see Gordon Freeman instead focus on the resistance, something we don't know yet
Guys, but there are ton of great movies based on video games! There's the one about the Super Mario- oh wait never mind. There's the one with Street Figh- oh wait scratch that too.
Honestly there isn't such a thing. I really get a bad vibe that if this movie is made there's a chance it'll just be Gabe Newell jumping a shark while water skiing.
If they ever make a HL movie, I kinda doubt it'll have Gordon as the main character.
Which is what I want. It would be fun to have a film based on the universe rather than the storyline from the games.
I'd actually like a Left 4 Dead movie. The special infected could make for some really cool action scenes.
Yeah like the guy mentioned before me, how earth surrendered in 7 hours could be great.

I dunno... Sliced Hitler sounds pretty great.

i mean idgaf but it's just hair it's not like he got his face burnt off.
oh god. Guys. Hoyl fuck guis. What if... the Half-Life movie will fill in the time between Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and Half-Life 3????
HL3 confirmed in two years!
What if the movie they are collaborating on IS Half-Life 3?

Obviously its a game Co-developed by Valve and Kojima.
I think it would be different if J.J. Abrams worked together with Valve then someone just trying to make a movie based on a game. If he works with Valve, that means he gets their writers who CAN write stories/book/script that can get made into a movie instead of making it off the events played out in the game. Think of it like, making a movie based on a book. Those are generally always fan-fucking-tastic, and the same idea would apply here if Valves writers got involved.
While there are exceptional examples that I'm sure people are quick to remember I don't think movies based off books tend to turn out well in general, and they're practically never as good as the book. It's usually fine if it has its own written story tangentially related to that of the book, but an attempt to strictly recreate the plotline of a book will make it seem stumpy and incoherent. You can't squeeze 10-20 hours worth of book into a 2-3 hour motion picture and still create a similar experience.
Any movie based on a different medium should take inspiration from its source to craft its on narrative rather than attempt to recreate it. Take the general scenario, pick a few interesting elements from the original works and incorporate them into something new. This gives the director more freedom to create something that "works" and fans won't have to suffer through as many inconsistencies.
Only 1 thing to say about this whole thing.

The only way that this can turn out good is if they hire Marc Laidlaw as a writer.

The only problem I can foresee is them trying to decide what to keep, what to drop and what will have to be combined/added.
If the Portal movie have J.K. Simmons its good.
John Noble as Dr.Arne Magnusson?
At least we know it won't make it to be a trilogy..
There still no video of this discussion? Looks interesting.
