Jesus christ I'm dying hahaha do you even have friends?
It's weird - I guess many people have different ways of dealing with that sort of situation - it would take a little time to understand one of my family members being in that state, but I'd rather let them go peacefully then let them live a life like that, and I hope that if I ever fall into a state such as this my family members will think the same and let me go.
Yes i can totally see where youre coming from.
But WE the internet public at large should exercise every possible definition of shutting the fuck up regarding this family's decision.
Hmm, why is this letter so 'offensive and disgusting'? Surely it was sent by mistake, or the SSA didn't know about his condition? It's not like the SSA sent them a letter saying 'lol u cant move or see, die already', [sp]like some people in this thread[/sp]
I was wondering same. At first I thought he was asked in person, which still wouldn't be terrible since workers are required to do so. Since this was a letter I don't see what's the fuss all about.

Its an understandably controversial issue. Are they even living? Yes on a medical level, but what kind of life is worth living where you're in a perpetual vegetative state?
You don't have to let your emotional mind take over your rational mind.
It's funny because you aren't being just an entire dick emotionally but also rationally retarded as well.
I want to find a way to contractually bind my parents to pull the plug if I'm ever like this. I couldn't imagine having to let my loved ones see me in that state and have to care for me every second of their lives.
We can't all be sociopaths like you though.
Pulling the plug on a family member in a [permanent vegatative state] isn't a sociopathic thing to do.
It's an act of mercy.

In most countries though, that's considered murder.

Yelling 'he's dead emotions are damaging and illogical we need to evolve' and referring to him as 'a piece of meat' is a pretty fucking dick thing to say though.
Well, I guess this shows how morally (Not to mention intellectually) bankrupt the social security agents are in the UK.
I'm pretty sure that they don't do this on purpose. Either it was an accident or their protocol doesn't account for this situation.
Or Joe the intern thought it'd be hilarious.

Would it be legal to fly a vegitative person to a country where it is legal?
Why, yes, of course he can work. He has a long and productive future ahead of him in the doorstop industry.
Empathy is encoded in humans for survival of species. It is good but it can malfunction in cases like these. You have to understand it is not human anymore.
i don't want to get banned so just imagine there's a picture here of the fattest, most disgusting and heinous neckbearded sperg wearing a fedora with an arrow pointing towards it that says "you"

it's real easy to take potshots from the peanut gallery when you're not actually involved

Put it in writing is the first step. Make sure it is recorded and in a format that, God forbid such a situation arise, it is known to as many relevant people as possible.

I would do the same thing but also make sure that before it is done, my hard drive is taken out of my computer and incinerated.

The first step to making rational decisions is taking into account the emotions of those involved.
If you were actually being rational here, you'd realise that this kind of sentiment is horrendously unpopular, and therefore is pointless to voice.
I say this as someone who knows exactly how you feel; I get frustrated a lot when people fail to divorce how they're feeling from what they do, and I think you're a dick.
I wouldn't mind being a vegetable.
I also think that anyone with cancer should be shot, there is no point in letting them live.
Why are they keeping that piece of meat alive?
why do all Sensationalist Headlines threads always have thoses kind of awful people?

I'm sure many people actually do agree to do this with loved ones. Of course, if they both agree I mean.
I wouldn't mind being a vegetable.

you're just trolling now.

wow wow wow wow
While personally, I would prefer to be dead if I were put in a vegetative state for the rest of my life, your lack of empathy and human rights it's still not an opinion you should impose on others.
But I don't know why I'm arguing with you since you're clearly trolling. Many people do survive cancer you know.
I would do the same thing but also make sure that before it is done, my hard drive is taken out of my computer and incinerated.
Facebook triggered deadman switch. Upon detection of numerous, consistent posts relating to "RIP, Goodbye, I'll miss you, etc", immediately purge all drives of personal data, running DBAN continuously until further instruction.
[editline]adf[/editline]
Don't let anyone know you have this, however, because that'd be such a mean thing to do to someone if they weren't dead.
Why do you care about your hard disk, you are dead. How people remember you won't have any effect on you.
Why do you care about your hard disk, you are dead. How people remember you won't have any effect on you.
Its the thought that counts.
why do all Sensationalist Headlines threads always have thoses kind of awful people?
They misunderstand that the "Sensationalism" part is satirical and spray their shit up against the wall for all to see.
Why do you care about your hard disk, you are dead. How people remember you won't have any effect on you.
Why are you such an uncaring ass.
In reality though its my personal shit and it was my personal shit from the start and it will remain my personal shit, even in death.
You don't have to let your emotional mind take over your rational mind.
Oh god, you're one of these people....
Firstly: cancer doesn't mean they are guaranteed to die, so why should they be shot? Surely it is more logical (as you claim only to understand logic) that they are kept alive? Even if it costs money short term to care for them, if everybody with cancer was shot we'd never figure out better ways to deal with cancer. Anyways, if they manage to stay alive, they'd probably make the money used to care for them back up eventually, having a better effect on the economy.
Empathy and sympathy are important even in the modern world. It's the only reason we haven't suffered nuclear holocaust by now...
And ironically enough, everyone who puts the facade of being cold and calculated is actually less logical than most people. You are insecure about the fact you'd have a nervous breakdown if you lost the ability to use a pc, and about how you'd freak out in everyday social situations, so you accuse the rest of the world as causing your issues and try to act logical. Yet, you fail to learn and are incredibly stubborn, never changing your view point despite superior evidence stacked up against your misguided thoughts, and blame others for your own failures. You are probably the least "logical" person in this thread...
Did I make a rational decision?
