I went back to Reagan and all but one other secretary of education either attended public school then went into politics, or taught public school and went into politics (or were directly appointed). It's certainly unusual.
On top of this, she funds an organization by the name of Direct Action Now (IIRC, name could be different) which calls for the end of compulsory education and abolition of child labor laws.
