Wait what, you have to buy it? I already had it downloaded, and I just played a match. Did I just get it for free? :v:
Ya did indeed kiddo! Welcome to the club. To add to that, if you at any point had Quake Live installed via Steam, it's yours free of charge.
i read a massive upcoming updates log a month back stating gore was coming back to the game as paid DLC, is this genuinely still happening?

That should be standard, especially now that they are charging for the game.
the game has been maintaining a teen rating afaik. I don't think gibs are coming back.
that is dumb
that is dumb
gibs are cool to look at but when you get right down to it it's really cloudy and blocks a lot of vision. i mean you think about it ql has been heading in a "clean" style for awhile now. that's why you can set your railgun to just shoot a straight line instead of a spiral, or be able to basically turn your textures off, or be able to color enemies highly bright colors. it's very possible they could make gibs optional like everything else, but again, i'm pretty sure the gibs are the line between teen and mature.
Reflex is much better and has great custom map support, it's still pretty early from what I can gather though. The gameplay is still all intact though, it plays like that one Quake 3 Arena mod.
the only reason I'd see getting the original is for the larger mods, we have yet to see if something like, say, Generations Arena would be able to be ported over. Although I don't think the Team Arena content's in there, not sure.
Bigger mods are indeed possible but they have to either release an SDK for Quake Live or wait for someone to figure out how it works, they changed quite a lot and the old quake3/ioquake3/whatever codebase is next to useless.
I liked quake when it wasn't shit like this one. I'll pass on this even if it was completely free.

I've had the game on steam for a long while before uninstalling, the game is definitely not a free download for me. I've sent in a support ticket, but I'm not optimistic.

Damnit, I downloaded this on Steam just when it came out, played it a bit, then never played it again for ages, now it's gone from my account, any ideas?
if you check the store page you might be able to still install it.
Nope, still shows up as being £6.99

cool got it for free on steam
Nope, still shows up as being £6.99
Odd, despite never launching it, and only installing it (although I uninstalled later) with intentions to play it way back when it came out on steam I still had the option to play it above the option to gift it to a friend.
Turns out I do have access to it. If the game isn't in your steam library, it wasn't for mine, visit the game's page, you might have the play now button on there like I did.
That's interesting. Usually games start out paid, and then wind up F2P. Can't think of any games starting out F2P and turning out paid, aside from like early early indie game stuff (i.e. Minecraft).
If the play button isn't on the store page, then copy this and paste it in your browser: steam://install/282440
For anyone looking for a good arena shooter, there's unreal tournament 4.
For anyone looking for a good arena shooter, there's unreal tournament 4.
2 completely different styles of arena shooters.
