Quality of art isn't based on how aesthetically pleasing it is
I think that's for each person to determine.
Looks like art hipsters would shit out. Good riddance.
Your bed doesn't have period-blood stained panties like that one does.
Hold that thought.
Shit, if I wanted to make modern art, all I would have to do is paint a canvas black and jizz on it.
well thats alot better than some "art" like this:
Would've taken fucking forever to stick all that down.
Good, fuck those modern art degenerates
Hahaha thread should have just closed after this. Nuff said!
Art is different for each person. That piece just appeals to a significantly different crowd. FP is the different crowd in where they see big eyes and tits as art.
I wouldn't consider tits art. Because if it was, rule #1 of any museum refrains me from touching the artwork.

holy shit i need to start making 'art'. seems like a lot of money for doing fuck all. might just take a giant shit in my toilet and bullshit some deep meaning behind it and get some rich guy to pay me a million for a turd.

modern art isnt about how good it looks its all about getting noticed its a joke
Finally something all of Facepunch agrees on.
modern art isnt about how good it looks its all about getting noticed its a joke
Become the most stoic, pretentious individual you can possibly be, imply your blatantly simple work should evoke specific 'deep' connotations, get rich.
How do we celebrate? edit: fuck
Finally something all of Facepunch agrees on.
That something has to be aesthetic, hard to make, and preferably a painting in order to be considered art? The idea behind modern art is that the final product is not the entire package. Modern art is supposed to represent it's building materials, it's inspiration, and the artist that made it just as much as it's supposed to represent itself. You might balk at the pricetag on some of these things, but you don't have to pay for it, and you won't, because it doesn't mean anything to you. But to someone who can connect with the artist and his work, it's priceless. The purpose of art isn't to look good, just as the purpose of music isn't to sound good, just as the purpose of literature isn't to be easy to read. The purpose of any human artistic work is to evoke emotion.
That something has to be aesthetic, hard to make, and preferably a painting in order to be considered art?
That modern art sucks. But I will warn you, before you might get your panties in a bunch, that it was a sarcastic statement and does not in any way, shape or form represent the actual opinions of 100 % of the userbase on this website.
well thats alot better than some "art" like this:
A truly moving piece indeed... if one examines, you will notice the slightly awry angle of the pillows, the strategic folds of the blanket. The small stuffed animal on the floor and its representation of the mess of childhood... just looking at this brings tears to my eyes. To have the talent these people do would be mesmerizing.
I once was in that gallery in Hyde Park, London. In there, there were wall sockets full of power plugs plugged in all together. I saw about 8 of these and was puzzled why they would do that, they didn't need that much extra sockets. Then I saw a price tag saying "2000£"
Art is different for each person. That piece just appeals to a significantly different crowd. FP is the different crowd in where they see big eyes and tits as art.
Last I checked Facepunch hates anime. Also finding something attractive =/= art.
Art is whatever you make it. I'm at art school (thankfully studying a "real" degree, animation) but I've gained quite a lot of appreciation for art in general. Also.
Modern art is an excuse to be lazy.
Quality of art isn't based on how aesthetically pleasing it is
Well, I believe art value should be based on the quality, aesthetics and creativity. Rubbing shit around on a poster, or chunking wood together is lazy, uncreative, and a joke at best.
Art is whatever you make it. I'm at art school (thankfully studying a "real" degree, animation) but I've gained quite a lot of appreciation for art in general. Also.
exactly, the main reason (I think) people don't like modern art is because they're pissed off that they didn't come up with it first. I'll admit a lot of it is really dumb, but some of it is pretty neat (the sculptures anyways). People who buy shit like this: for $1.8 million dollars *cough*nationalgalleryofcanada*cough* are idiots.
Quality of art isn't based on how aesthetically pleasing it is
That depends on the purpose of the art. If you make it to sell and it looks like crap then it's a low quality piece of art.
I took a shit on Star Wars Ep1 The Phantom Menace for PC. Art.
More like: Modern Art = I do that everyday + Yeah, but I got to the museum first. Art is pretty much whatever you want it to be, yes, but the thing is some people's definition of art is just ridiculous. The definition isn't really the problem I see here either, the problem is that no one should be getting thousands for shitting in a can or having a messy bed.
It's a bunch of scrap wood nailed together with a rubber tray underneath it. What kind of douchebag would waste that kind of money?
-snip- Someone beat me to it
