The idea behind modern art is that the final product is not the entire package. Modern art is supposed to represent it's building materials, it's inspiration, and the artist that made it just as much as it's supposed to represent itself.

You might balk at the pricetag on some of these things, but you don't have to pay for it, and you won't, because it doesn't mean anything to you. But to someone who can connect with the artist and his work, it's priceless.

The purpose of art isn't to look good, just as the purpose of music isn't to sound good, just as the purpose of literature isn't to be easy to read. The purpose of any human artistic work is to evoke emotion.

A truly moving piece indeed... if one examines, you will notice the slightly awry angle of the pillows, the strategic folds of the blanket. The small stuffed animal on the floor and its representation of the mess of childhood... just looking at this brings tears to my eyes. To have the talent these people do would be mesmerizing.

exactly, the main reason (I think) people don't like modern art is because they're pissed off that they didn't come up with it first. I'll admit a lot of it is really dumb, but some of it is pretty neat (the sculptures anyways). People who buy shit like this:
