I've never really seen it out in the open but when it comes to discussion about issues with the Aboriginals, the racism between Aboriginals and Non-Aboriginals can get pretty nasty on both sides. I don't know where the stereotype comes from either and I have to admit that I am curious as to how it ever caught on in the first place.

I've been to Iceland once, and I can say it makes sense.
