so what if actual automobiles were advertised to children as well?
or how about pornography?
sure, it's part of the parent's responsibilities, but that doesn't mean that you can't be pissed off at corporations who market this shit.
Cars are already advertised to people 16+. No point in going lower since they can't legally drive anyways. That would be a waste of money.
What's wrong with porn? Deadly serious here. Don't remember the details, but most kids go looking for porn in their early to mid teens. Who the fuck cares? It's porn.

There's nothing wrong with masturbation, but there's a load of problems associated with internet pornography.

Judging form the fact that the moms in the videos were older I presume it was aimed more towards late teenagers.
i love when politicians who've never had direct first-hand experience with the subject continue to make grossly inaccurate statements about said subject
It feels good to be a genius when compared to people like Ralph Nader.
The moment you open up those game cases, a pair of slimey hands pop out and start to grope anything under the age of 16.

Candy is marketed directly to kids, and there's absolutely no question that it's directly physically unhealthy for you in large quantities.
Does that make candy into child rape? No. Does it make parents who overfeed their children candy into bad parents? Yes.
Thankfully, that does actually seem to be one of the things he's getting at- that parents should get better at managing their children, but comparing video games to child molestation is mentally retarded.
It's Ralph Nader for god's sake
Rarely can you get farther from political relevance
I must be tired, I read his name in the title as "Rarth Vader"
Are video games actually marketed towards children though? It doesn't seem that way to me but then again I don't pay attention to adverts. Please explain.
ftc says that the industry has made improvements(actually more than the film and music industries), but there is still more work to be done regarding marketing.
"Video Games: Although ads for M-rated video games on television shows that are popular with teens appear to be diminishing, the same is not true for Internet advertising. Currently, the ESRB prohibits ads for M-rated games on Web sites where the under-17 audience is 45% or more. The report suggests that the ESRB is not adequately enforcing even this limited standard. The video game industry generally provides clear and prominent disclosure of rating information in advertising; however, the ESRB has not adopted the Commission’s previous recommendation that content descriptors for games be placed on the front of game packaging. The Commission’s survey of parents and children on their awareness and use of the video game ratings system showed an overall positive picture of the game rating system: 87% of parents surveyed said they are aware of the ESRB system, more than seven in ten use it when their child wants to play a game for the first time, and three quarters of the parents who are familiar with the content descriptors use them. However, many parents still believe the system can do more to inform them about the level of violence in some games. "

on the bright side compliance and self-regulation regarding sale of mature content to underage people is actually, by far, the best with video game retailers.

“It gives its disciples not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have learned nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally know nothing.”
- Plato, on the rise of the written word, around the 4th century BC.
“It is a pastime of illiterate, wretched creatures who are stupefied by their daily jobs, a machine of mindlessness and dissolution. It requires no effort, raises no ideas, raises no questions…”
- Georges Duhamel, 1930, on the “evils of the new medium of film.”
“They become like blinking lizards, motionless, absorbed, only the twitching of their hands showing they are still conscious. [It] teaches them nothing. It stimulates no ratiocination, discovery or feat of memory.”
- Boris Johnson, 2006, on the menace of video games.
This will eventually pass. Nader is an idiot.
It's a great time to remind ourselves to not do the same in thirty years, when some new art form we don't understand emerges.
