This is obviously down to big pharma. My only worry is that it will slow down the advancement of medical cannabis (which, unlike other shit) has been proven to work.

so maybe some ganja
You're playing right into their hands, EU - four fifths of these alt-med crackpots think that the "establishment" is out to "get them", and you're just giving them ammo.

I bet most modern medicine does more harm than that herb.
It might be an EU resolution but most states will probably flip it off and keep going as before anyway. These resolution have ridiculously small effect. I am using herbal drops for my asthma, and they are working wonders. If this puts them out of retail, I will be pissed.
Finally a reason to post this:

Is the healthcare system in Europe socialized at all? I'm just curious. [editline]1st May 2011[/editline] I know it's universal, but does it have any trace of socialism?

[editline]1st May 2011[/editline] I know it's universal, but does it have any trace of socialism?
Well firstly every European country's healthcare is completely different. There may be EU laws and regulations but the way each European country is run is as diverse as the rest of the world. Most European countries have universal healthcare to varying degrees. If by 'elements of socialism' you mean publicly funded, most EU countries have that to some degree at least.
When I need a painkiller, I reach for tea or gel capsules made from kratom (mitragyna speciosa). I have no doubts it works, (and is not a placebo) I'm glad I'm not in the EU. To say that all herbal medications are effective or aren't would be stupid. The best thing to do would be to provide accurate information to the consumer without forcing regulations. A warning at most. When do you consider regulations on safety excessive? Would you condone raiding an amish dairy farm because they don't pasteurize their milk? The information should be easily available for the consumer to obtain, but I'm not sure if regulating it is going to help much. I see the need for it, but I also see faults.

[editline]1st May 2011[/editline] I know it's universal, but does it have any trace of socialism?
What exactly is a "trace of socialism"? If it's any government intervention at all then every country's healthcare system has a trace of socialism.

[editline]1st May 2011[/editline] I know it's universal, but does it have any trace of socialism?
of course it has a trace of socialism so·cial·ism/ˈsōSHəˌlizəm/ Noun: A political and economic theory of that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
well good because that's not what's happening they're banning the crap ones that don't work at all [editline]1st May 2011[/editline]
Manufacturers will have to prove that their products have been made to strict standards and contain a consistent and clearly marked dose. And to count as a traditional medicine, products must have been in use for the past 30 years, including 15 years within the EU. They will also only be approved for minor ailments like coughs and colds, muscular aches and pains, or sleep problems.
I really don't see how this is a bad thing.
