I think we can all agree with what you say. Or at least people should. I know people who are eating candy every day. Drinking soda and what not. Not working out at all. And still they r skinny. GIVE ME YOUR GENES!
If they're skinny, they are eating less than you think. If you go over your caloric expenditure, you won't lose any weight. Only certain disorders can change that fact, and they're uncommon. Want to lose weight? Eat less. Track your calories. Eat mostly protein to maintain muscle mass. That's really all there is to it. The biggest thing you can do is read nutritional labels. I think many overweight people would be surprised to see how much they are actually eating. Myself included.
i lost 100 pounds by simply cleansing my body of bacteria, and now you can too! for the low low price of 5 payments of $100.00 you too can lose 100 pounds by cleansing your body of bacteria!

That's not as bad for me as it is for some people, since I'm also 6' 3" but it just goes to show how easy it is to over eat.
the real trick to losing weight is amphetamines all the cool kids are doing it now a days
I lost around 7 kilograms in one week
muh gains
Skinny and lazy bro here I eat badly but I don't eat MUCH of it On normal schooldays I will miss breakfast, have a few snacks during the day and have a normal dinner Not good at all but sure beats being fat
You guys are little kids getting your panties in a twist over fat people. Fat people would fuck you skinny nerds up in a brawl. They'd also outlast you during a nuclear winter.
You guys are little kids getting your panties in a twist over fat people. Fat people would fuck you skinny nerds up in a brawl. They'd also outlast you during a nuclear winter.
But they're fat
This is probably just a loose link. Given the fact that obese people barely even existed 100 years ago I think obesity definitely can be attributed more to the fact that some of the most affordable and highest quantity food today has a very high sugar/carb content while still providing very little actual substance, so people often find it difficult to control their calorie intake, especially those who are already at risk to gain weight in the first place.
You have to include the fact we have foods now that never existed 100 years ago.
You guys are little kids getting your panties in a twist over fat people. Fat people would fuck you skinny nerds up in a brawl. They'd also outlast you during a nuclear winter.
Shut up fatty. No seriously, fat =/= muscle, the only advantage you'd have in a brawl would be the psychological impact on your opponent. Other than that it's all loselose, can't move fast enough and easier to hit. During a nuclear winter you'd die because you wouldn't be able to move your ass out to catch some food. People who are morbidly overweight disgust me, it was common sense that fatties were only eating way too much food, the only reason we're trying to find them an excuse is because they're a lot now and feel oppressed. You won't find obese people where there ain't shitload of food and water, that's it.

Kinda funny cars not long ago some american university linked antibiotics to obesity.
Ive always found that if you make your own meals for yourself, you tend not to gain nearly as much weight as if someone was to make you food. I make myself meals all the time for myself, and I dont gain any weight. But as soon as I start getting fed food I tend to gorge because there is so much more which is made for more people.
no the shredded dudes would literally murder the fat people for nutrition they are slow, weak and full of food to share, gl with ur fat survival plan of 2013
I was comparing skinny nerds to fat nerds. In the general case skinny nerds would lose. Here's why: Skinny nerds are weak. Fat nerds are weak. Fat nerds have to hold up an extra 40 pounds than skinny nerds, and they have that to throw around. Also not all fat people are lards who literally cant move. Ever see a bouncer at a club? Tons of huge ass fat motherfuckers, but they will rock your shit because they have a huge frame and 100 more pounds than you. It'd basically be like the fat nerds would encircle and tackle the skinny nerds, they'd literally have like half the weight of the fat nerds group. I'm fat. and I can do a couple pushups, and have been in shape at one time. I put sparring equipment on and box with my friends, and other than my stamina being shit (which doesn't matter anywhere near as much in a brawl where it's going to end in like a minute of intense shit happening) I can keep up, and even toss around smaller guys with my weight. It's one thing to be fat, it's another thing to be a lardass who can't move their limbs. You're confusing the two.
Everyone should take some time and read this. It was written by a guy to tell off some some (loud and wrong) people on Reddit and since the posts here are identical to the ones he was telling off it's relevant. Basically a big study was done on weight and some really unexpected things happened that indicate all of our misconceptions on why people are under or overweight are completely pants-on-head retardedly wrong. Get ready to have your world views rocked, I'll leave this here though:
genetics predicted weight loss ~7-fold better than the environment
If you bothered to read through the surrounding comments instead of just clinging onto a post of asserted conclusions that you like, you'd see more than one poster adequately refuted the conclusions the poster made. The studies are interesting in and of themselves. What is not interesting is when people with an personal agenda manipulate the information presented to appear to support their own opinions on the matter. It is really no surprise at all that people regain weight when they stop dieting. You know why there is virtually successful long term weight loss studies? Because people stop dieting and go right back to their old eating habits, and it becomes worse because the body is now worse off in several aspects from the extreme caloric deficit. Purplecow made an excellent point in that the people who are successful with weight loss generally aren't the people participating in studies, for reasons that are obvious. We haven't just all got the fat gene overnight, are you seriously going to sit there and assume that an obesity epidemic that appears in a very short span of time is a product of genetics and NOT environment?

You can be overweight and healthy/active. I was the second largest person in my field botany class and I was out hiking most of the class; When I am on campus I am out hiking in my colleges preserve 3-4 days a week minimum on top of lab time. I also help out removing invasive trees and have found few people can keep up with me when I have a hatchet or an axe. I have blood work every six months and except for my thyroid levels I am well within normal ranges in everything. I may not fit the bill of your average overweight guy because I have genetic hypothyroidism, but I still get pissed off when people assume I must be a lazy sack of shit because I am fat.
you'd see more than one poster adequately refuted the conclusions the poster made.
Such as...?
are you seriously going to sit there and assume that an obesity epidemic that appears in a very short span of time is a product of genetics and NOT environment?
There are obviously a multitude of factors, including a shift in attitudes towards food (the basket you seem keen to put all of your eggs in). However, there's another factor that's rather significant to note when you claim an obesity epidemic appeared in a short span of time: the definition of obese has changed. In 1998, the official classification of "overweight" changed from a BMI of 27.8 (men) and 27.3 (women) to 25 for both. This is estimated to have made 35 million people in the USA alone "fat" overnight. People also point to an epidemic of diabetes as proof we're all fatter. But guess what changed in 1997? The standard of diagnosing diabetes was lowered, creating one million new cases of diabetes. Also, I'm not claiming there's a fat gene. Nobody is. The study states that people's genetics affects how much weight they'll gain or lose when they try, not that it's impossible for most people to do so - although some people will just always be skinny or fat without near-impossible lifestyle changes. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline]
I eat like a whale and just don't put on weight.
Just imagine if you said the inverse: "I barely eat at all and I just won't lose weight" How long do you think it would take for someone (probably JaegerMonster) to jump down your throat telling you to just get off the couch more?

And addressing how several of the references used are studies in which several important measures were uncontrolled - which is why we have one study showing a huge weight loss from a relatively small caloric deficit in just 12 weeks, but yet another showing fuck all from a massive caloric deficit over a similar time period. I'm not going to insult your intelligence, but at the same time obviously you realize not all studies are created equal and there does in fact exist poorly conducted studies. The assertion that VLCDs do not work is ridiculous, there is a slew of clinical data that suggests they do work, and work very efficiently. The problem for obese people is not losing fat, they are more than capable of doing that efficiently barring some legitimate conditions that make it very much an uphill battle, the problem has always lied in keeping the weight off. Combine a person who has not formed new habits with a horrendously impaired hormonal profile from a long period of caloric deprivation and you now have a problem that was worse off than to begin with. This is the problem with people drawing conclusions from studies where the participants have not successfully kept the weight off after ceasing the diet. It's not that dieting and exercise does not work for certain individuals (with obvious exceptions), it's that they do not form new habits. Losing weight is ridiculously easy, forming new lifestyle habits to keep that weight off is dramatically harder, yes, I have never disputed that. Except I would bet hard money that if we took inventory of what TaniaTiger eats in a given day, it would amount to surprisingly little. This is not some voodoo magic, it's a situation I've seen time and time again: People who claim to eat a lot generally do not eat anywhere near as much as they think, and people who claim to eat very little usually eat far more than they think they do. I wouldn't tell him to get off the couch more in the inverse situation, contrary to popular belief exercise is actually really fucking terrible for weight loss, food intake has and always will be one of the biggest determining factors. Exercise really just provides an beneficial improvement in certain hormones and metabolic functions.
"Don't care" = too embarrassed and depressed to think about it
I think some people are overweight and still live fulfilling happy lives.
I think one important thing to note about being overweight is that even if you eat normal amounts you won't lose weight; you have to eat a deficit in order for your body to use that fat as partial sustenance. Also skinny people who eat a lot but don't put on weight are either a. not accurately gauging how much they eat or b. are only doing aerobic activity, which increases your metabolic rate but doesn't actually build lean muscle mass. Putting on weight is a matter of doing anaerobic resistance exercise + eating a caloric surplus. Doing only the former will just make you stronger, and doing only the latter will just make you fatter.
