I think it's a perfect example of what I mentioned before about two distinct factions within the pro-GG side vying for control of the movement.
The fact that you think there is or ever could be any group in "control" of GG to begin with is laughable. That isn't how these movements work.
I thought gamers gate was the sudden realization by everyone that the videogames news sites are mostly courrupt or shitty with the odd exception here or there.
All you have to do is look at the roots of the movement. It all started over a single woman, expanded to multiple women, and only started involving a few men when they were connected to those women.
I get that there are people in the movement trying to give it a more positive direction, but I think it's too late for that now.
more like it started with one feminist woman who abused her boyfriend and in her own words raped him, that caused people to call for the journalists she slept with to be fired for collusion. No other women were included till they came out calling GG fucking misogynist for going after zoe just because she has a vagina. If it was the other way around people would still be fucking pissed that an indie dev used sex to further their games in the media.

What are you talking about, the gamergate movement is lead by the hacker called Hatechan.
he was even banned from 4chan for being to extreme!
I thought gamers gate was the sudden realization by everyone that the videogames news sites are mostly courrupt or shitty with the odd exception here or there.
Considering that was already common knowledge prior to GG, that's the least likely explanation.
Why the fuck would you want to threaten Boogie?
He's like the coolest nicest dude.
Why would you threaten anyone with death over video games of all things?
Like how much of a waste of flesh do you need to be to get so buttmad over video games that you think murder is a logical, wholly justifiable option?
I thought gamers gate was the sudden realization by everyone that the videogames news sites are mostly courrupt or shitty with the odd exception here or there.
It is
Though it was more because suddenly there were a lot of evidence supporting the fact that they were corrupt
The more important side of the Zoe Quinn fiasco
One of her partners was later a judge in an independent videogame festival that had just bestowed an award on Quinn’s game, Depression Quest; another was a videogame journalist who had given her a couple of positive mentions.

none of it really went to charity.
Am I missing something or wasn't that clear from the get-go? I was under the assumption that all the IndieGoGo money went to helping fund the contest and develop the game, and then when they sold the game a percentage of the proceeds would go to charity.
The more important side of the Zoe Quinn fiasco
Yeah a couple all right. It's not like the journalist mentioned mentioned her game a total of 14 times and wrote 2 articles about how good it was.
In my opinion, GG isn't a movement based around hatred, but one founded on it. I can guarantee you if the movement hadn't originally started because of, and targeted a feminist, one that made an unpopular game among the masses nontheless, it wouldn't have become as big as it is now. Would it have existed at all? Most likely. Would it have blown up like it did? No, not a chance.
To be honest, I think on its own the Zoe Quinn scandal would have died down quickly enough on its own. But when all those publications simultaneously posted about "Gamers are Dead", people really got suspicious. If Quinn was the spark that started the fire, then the articles dumped gasoline on it.
What is wrong with some people?
ignorance... people these days are not raised using common sense, and possibly bad parenting which alot of people these days are suffered from. I'm guessing 45% of americans don't know how to be friendly these days.
I don't support the patriot act, but fuck I hope they find this person and beat him senseless.
I don't support the patriot act, but fuck I hope they find this person and beat him senseless.
Thinking that way makes you just as bad as them, by the way.

That article states that 74% of profits go to charity, actually. Or am I missing something?
I don't support the patriot act, but fuck I hope they find this person and beat him senseless.
what?
That article states that 74% of profits go to charity, actually. Or am I missing something?
None of the 70K went to charity. Instead it went to developing a game and 74% of the profits from the game go to charity.
None of the 70K went to charity. Instead it went to developing a game and 74% of the profits from the game go to charity.
Oh OK I see, that's what they said from the beginning, though?
In my opinion, GG isn't a movement based around hatred, but one founded on it. This is the reason i find it hard to support GG, i agree with the movement's stated goal 100%, but a quick glance at any Gamergate facebook/steam/whatever group and alongside the few level headed posters you will find hundreds of "i hope those dumb feminist cunts get raped" comments from sexist neck-beards who only hopped on board the movement because they don't like women, and i don't feel overly comfortable throwing my lot in with people like that.

Then don't support feminism either. They also have a loud idiotic sexist minority. It's 2 sides of the same coin. Both movements, at their core, are striving for something good, and both sides have loud ignorant minorities that make the rest of the group look bad.
That's why I support the core aspect of gamergate (journalistic integrity in the gaming industry) AND I support feminism's core aspect of equality.
Do you really think "rabid sjws" are a significant problem in an industry that lives on paid reviews and shitty business decisions?
[editline]15th October 2014[/editline]
She's not a feminist because, by definition, she's not. She doesn't care about equal work opportunites. I mean for fuck's sake one of her books is about boyhood being destroyed by attempts at equal opportunity, while another is titled "who stole feminism"
I'm a few pages late to the party here but I have to point out that along with second-wave feminism in the 1960s came the idea that women should celebrate their own positive qualities. Feminism can be about both attaining equality and celebration of difference. If you think that it's all about "equal work opportunities" then you're stuck in the suffragette era.

The thing is that nowadays, it seems like Feminism is more for the advancement of an individual rather than the advancement of Equality. Sure years ago it might have been for equality but a lot of feminists these days are either doing it for themselves or for women to have more power than men.
I've learnt a lot but now even more confused. Those who 'support' Gamergate want the industry to improve its standards?
If so, they do know that gaming journalism is a bit of a joke regardless, right?
Yes, we have known that it has been a joke for a long time.
That was also before they tried to make us the butt of their joke. Spoiler: We didn't find it funny.
video game feminists are fucking annoying
cant they fuck off
I love how when these guys get death threats they're told to get a thicker skin and no-one actually kicks up a big storm outside of these very specific communities.
But when it happens to Anita Sarkeesian or Zoe Quinn it gets the most serious of serious coverage on mainstream gaming media sites.
Cause that doesn't totally prove that a whole load of Gamergate's points are valid now does it?

Its the ironic derogatory nature of seeing women as innocent and frail whilst men are supposed to be tough. People hate prejudices when they're aimed at their groups, but being a frail human being is made even more so when you're seen as male.

So according to you, if a movement has bad people, tangenitally involved in it (aka pretty much every movement ever) you'll flat out ignore the good people in the movement in favour of the bad people and therefore it invalidates the movement? So pretty much don't support any movement ever whatsoever?
Fallout New Vegas's metacritic score was one point short of what it needed for Obsidian to earn royalties from it.
Can this be the next thing we change because this is fucking stupid.
Almost all of New Vegas's problems were caused by Bethesda, not Obsidian.
This dumbass system basically ruined the chances of another proper Fallout game.
So you think that the majority of the people who actively participate in GG are sexist?
I think it was started by sexists who marketed it really well and it attracted a huge number of non-sexists but at the same time all of the sexists on the internet discovered they had a shiny new thing they could hide behind and legitimize their hate.
You can't go through tweets and posts about gamergate without countless people talking about what a "vapid cunt" so-and-so is or what a "whore/cunt/bitch/etc" all feminists are and how feminists are ruining gaming. It's just heaps and heaps of worthless drivel like this. And with places like Breitbart hopping on board it's only gotten more extreme and hateful.
The beauty of combating poor journalism is that you can literally just vote with your wallet. You don't have to bump shoulders with MRAs/red pillers to "save gaming", you can just do it.

Just like how you can go through and find anti GG people attacking GG people or calling them dudebro neckbeards who are cavemen. Amazing how you generalize such a massive movement with dumbshits that the heads of GG can't stand and most people don't associate with just because it fits your idea. You know thats the same shit xenophobic dickheads use as an excuse with Islam and their extremist's.
